Space Mountain Heading to the Scrap Heap :)

When I first rode it (when the walls were still up) the led's in the sign changed colors. Now, they keep it on blue:(

I saw the poor soul who was working on the problem and I don't think I have ever seen anyone looking that defeated before. I really felt bad for him. So, I think of that and know they tried but evidently that was a complicated little effect.

They had to do it manually?:veryconfu

Yeah, apparently it was just testing. If it helps, they kinda turn a light teal and "sparkle" every now and again. Nothing major but better than a straight blue.
Yeah, it's just hard to believe that the technology is there for the lights, yet it sits there wasted. I love colorchanging LED's...they're so magical.

Huh, poor guy. So they could get the sign to sparkle but they couldn't get it to change colors every minute or so? Thats weird. :veryconfu But then again, I'm not an expert on such systems so I take it for whats it worth. At least they tried.

No he was up on a ladder working on it. I think it is not just lights but rather has actual moving elements. I theorize it was something they tried to engineer on site rather than an "off the shelf" effect.
Moving parts? Where?

Agreed. *coughSSEcough*

Now , when you say sparkle, you mean the color just getting lighter around the edges at random points, right?

I'll ask my fiance. He design's and sells lighting of this nature, which I assume would qualify him as an expert.

Yeah, more or less. The whole thing doesn't change into a solid teal. I guess the effect involves individual diodes changing color for a few seconds between blue and teal.

Not exactly.
Much has been done, and more will eventually happen. If they moved the curtains...you would see some stuff.
However, Disney has turned it's attention elsewhere in FW, and will return to SSE when (if) Siemens forces the issue and coughs up the money. The additional work in SSE was never seen as a big deal to the company, but they continued to finance the work up until fairly recently.
Now they see their time and money better spent in other pavillions which will currently remain nameless.

Different situation. With SSE they did all they could in the time allotted, then were forced to try to finish up later. It was never planned to take this long.
They are going into SM with the plan to do a lot of the structural work now, work that will enable them to make further additions later. I'm not currently able to be specific, but if you think hard enough...you can probably see where I'm going with this.

Spent the last five days at the resort. Talked to many interesting people.
The attention at Epcot is going into FW.
From what I have learned Mr. Cockrell is looking to make things happen...or so it seems. It's all a matter of priority. At this point, what little remains to do at SSE is not high on the priority list.

I could only imagine what it might be.

Do not overestimate the stuff in the descent. Good stuff, I guess...but not close to the scale of the other stuff in the works.

Less clutter....probably. But that's only a small piece of it.

I'm guessing they moved it, as Lee said. FW is getting something, while SSE is loosing something it needs but already has. Seems like they wasted money in doing this.

Figgy better be pretty freaking amazing.:lookaroun

So to recap, the assumptions we're making based on cryptic posts:
- SM is getting prepared to handle onboard audio
- Whether or not the queue is actually enclosed or not at open is a ??
- the exit tunnel remains a ??
- the arcade will stay and we all hate it
- the ride will be "done" when it opens (meaning functioning but not done)

- SSE, not done and now no timeline to be (really) done
- The graveyard may be hitting the street in 2009-2010 possibly
- Imaginations may once again run wild sooner than later

One can only hope. Last fully well executed and complete Refurb? When and what was it? I saw NO to HM because of the missing AA that's rumored to still be coming "soon" or "someday".

Keep in mind, in Disney terms I define:
done = ride works and is safe for use
soon = sometime in the next 5 years
someday = before we close the park forever, this will change/happen
2009 = 2011
2010 = 2015
2011+ = see "someday"

In the sign obviously. :brick:

He was reaching into it and manually adjusting something and I could hear something mechanical. I was there during the soft openings when you could keep riding over and over and he was working on the right hand side sign.

Ah, gotcha.
Why wouldn't they be able to?
I was under the impression that Siemens money was exclusive to SSE and ROE.

Yeah, not only the Hatbox Ghost, but the Imagineers were still adding things in 3rd shift after it opened.

Perhaps Small World was the last one? Gran Fiesta Tour?

That makes no sense.:brick::rolleyes: Nothing needs to move, and there is no room for it do do so.

There is plenty of room. I think the "sparkly" feature was produced by a belt that traveled over the leds or whatever is providing the illumination. It was either causing the heat sensitive leds to overheat or it was getting untracked. Which would explain why it only "sparkles" occasionally. Anyway, for all I know they have it working now. But it was definitely a problem and I suspect still is.

PS- a watch is small but has many moving parts. The size of the watch does not keep it from being mechanical :brick:
