Space Mountain Heading to the Scrap Heap :)

^ Each Six Flags park also has themed lands - granted not 6 or 7 generally. And, I'm not talking the lands themselves - I'm talking the rides. And yes the castle in DD - awesome theme, very well done! But then you get on the coaster - and its literally just two intertwined coasters - again, impressive in and of themselves, but it's not an immersive story. My point is that i am far more impressed when the entire structure becomes part of the theme - as in EE, or at least is unobtrusive to the theme - like with SM.
Unfortunately, you can't enclose everything. Every attraction you mentioned here is enclosed, and while they are very cool, it is very unpractical, and almost impossible, especially for something as big as HRRR, Hulk, or DD.

My reasoning for comparing the two was not to say the Rockit trains would be good for SM, but to say that of the two, Disney is coming up short in the technology of their coaster offerings.
They could have given us new high-tech trains....but they chose not to.
So, once again, SM (the MK's flagship, iconic thrill ride) will not be getting the love and respect it deserves.

But...that's just me....

I second the motion, audio in SM would be an enormous PLUS!
Yep. Should have been a no-brainer.

Rockit is starting to look like the 'test track' of roller coasters.. is it EVER going to open? They had a gantry crane out there today REMOVING a portion of track from the lift again..... tsk tsk tsk..

I will be doing the opposite, giving them a swift kick and cursing them, "stupid old-a$$, low-tech, no audio trains."
:D

Me too! High Five! :lookaroun
:D I will be guilty of that. Hopefully they at least still glow in the dark.:lookaroun
You won't be able to see the glowy part because they are enclosing the queue
:lol::lol::lol:

I'm sure the Cm's working that shift will greatly appreciate that. Besides, who ever heard of music in space?
Astronauts listen to it all the time :lookaroun

It's that damned 90 degree lift. Stupid pesky, never been done-before challenges.

I don't think it was anything major.
"Technical Rehearsals" are beginning soon which will allow Uni employees and "special guests" to ride, so it shouldn't be long for the rest of us now.

I'm really getting kinda anxious....

Please stop comparing SM to HRRR.

SM is an apple...HRRR is an orange.

One is a classic, almost 40 yr old mind you, enclosed mini coaster.
The other is a BRAND NEW outdoor coaster.

These are not even the same type of ride.

For all of the Disney-philes on these boards it astounds me that one would even compare the two parks or the rides within. They are night and day.

I'm not comparing the actual coasters. I'm saying how Disney will be behind yet again after cutting the audio out of Space.

Stupid pesky Universal, breaking barriers and making creative gambles that will amaze people. I'm so glad Disney doesn't do anything like that.
Me too. Now excuse me while I go learn my A, B, C's with Stitch at his bird hut under new management while the star recovers from a damaged suppor...errrr...back...

I hope SM never gets a soundtrack. Maybe some sound effects but we don't need a "Space" coaster with music. It's fine for the other SM's but I'd prefer a non-musical experience. Sound effects would be nice though.

I look at it this way:
SM is MK's signature thrill ride. An iconic attraction who's name alone stirs feelings and images with the public, even those who haven't ridden it.
HRRR is Uni's new signature thrill ride. High tech and exciting.
Now...which park will have the most impressive signature thrill ride? To me, and many others, Uni will.
It's not a knock against Disney really, I love them too much for that. Instead it is my desire to see the MK have a ride that is worthy of it's iconic status. A ride that is the best of it's kind in the world, which is what Disney used to demand, and what the MK deserves.
"Classic" doesn't earn a ride any slack from me. Too often it is just an excuse to let something get stale.

Probably showing my age now but does anyone else think the HRRR cars look like the USS Cygnus transport sleds from The Black Hole?

Or is it just me?

Yep. People will compare. Doesn't always mean its a fair comparison, but thats the way it works. I gotta say, WDW better get its act together; RRR looks pretty awesome, and to think MK signature roller coaster is lucky if it gets new lights and a coat of paint. :brick: In people's minds, Disney is dropping the ball compared to Uni and RRR.

And I love how you chime in with that Martin, amidst somewhat "heated" (and I use it lightly, don't worry) the discussion of SM and RRR.
