Space Mountain Heading to the Scrap Heap :)

Even if the Rockit Trains talked to you, it still wouldn't be half the experience Space Mountain is. HRRR is simply a coaster, albeit a high-tech one, with no real theme, and it's intrusive. All this talk about how great the sound system etc. is, yet the queue is the biggest mess of switchbacks I've seen this side of Cedar Point.

That said, I'm still looking forward to it, and it's fine for Universal. I just don't think Disney should be looking at it and freaking out. If they decided to build something similar at Epcot, we would have a heart attack.

But Lee! You forgot about the Magical, Fantastic, and NEW Celebration!:lol:

Yea, the 2010 slogan of "What will you celebrate*?"

*Because we didn't give you anything to celebrate.

:hammer::lol:

I know Disney is big on being as secretive as possible and not releasing info until the last minute, but just this one time wouldn't it be beneficial if they came out with a 3-year plan to revamp certain things in all 4 parks? As well as add a couple new attractions here and there? Economy, shmeconomy... we're talking about a company that will build a DVC resort at the drop of a hat (DHS reference? :animwink:). They could at least clue us in and get us excited about a few projects right? I mean, we all knew about TWWHP at least a year before Uni started construction. Yet already had a release date and everything. Why can't Disney just once let us know what they are planning and get us excited again? Sorry for the rant. I will hope for MI coaster, and TLM at the very least this October. Anything more will be incredible. :king:

I'm disapointed because at first HRRR was supposed to be over city walk not Universal. Now I'm not that excited anymore because I've always wanted to ride it over city walk. I may be the only one who thinks that.

Agreed in full. I'm hoping that there is nothing in 2010 and 2011 while the continue to add up and build for a 10-01-11 Date for the 40th. That's where your "plan" makes sense...

...It's not improbable, but not highly probable, either.[/Timekeeper]

Really? You were saying something different a few days ago, as I seem to recall...

No No No EE. Some posters are spinning that there will be announcements in October. All D&G people BTW. Find one post where I said a specific date. I think they will announce stuff around the opening of TWWoHP but that is just opinion.

Nice try.

This seems to go against your usual unfounded optimism...:lol:

Anyway, if I misquoted you..sorry. I'm not about to run a search or anything.[/lazy]:lookaroun

Oh, I am VERY optimistic they will annonce and release concept art right on top of the opening of TWWoHP. I would love such a move. :sohappy:

Oh, please run that search. I'm not saying I didn't say October but that would have been when it appeared HP would open this year.

Disagree.
At this point, unless you have never ridden an enclosed coaster before, SM is an extremely underwhelming experience. (Especially at the MK...Disneyland less so, Paris not at all.)
Maybe it's me...but I feel like Rockit will surpass Space in every way except for possibly visual effects and queue.

RRR has theming.Music, palm trees, the trains. That's all theming.Everything that surrounds the ride is theming.I've walked around uni,It has the hollywood feeling. In fact, It's a real set.All of the buildings behind some of the rides are sets.Trust me, I know how entertainment works.Unless you have never been to hollywood, you don't know what the theming is like.

EDIT: Just because it's a suspended roller coaster doesn't mean it's not themed. It doesnt have to be inside of a mountain or indoors in the dark to have theming. That's why they surrounded the coaster with palm trees, made the cars light up(because hollywood is a blinding city) and added music for the hollywood theming. The coaster doesnt have to go through a doughnut hole just for the perfect theme!

The new Universal Coaster...so shiny...that one is going to be like sitting behind the wheel of a new car you just bought. And word is the thing is deathly silent!

Come on Disney...you better have something out of this world up your sleeve to combat that.

I could see it happening as well. Hopefully we get many PR's...Many.:drevil::lol:

:) I like your optimism because that is what they should do.

We all have to remember, there are more Disney Lovers than Universal lovers. (Plus guests who are going to want to go back when this possible project is finished.)

I assume there has been no word on the exterior refurbishment of SM as we have not even heard much about the inside. But, what do people think of changing it?

I mean, I know the basic white color and look of the mountain is sort of a staple and is its 'look'. But honestly, maybe I will be in trouble with any Disney purists, I really wish the outside would get a makeover of some kind. I mean, even the white could stay, but using LED lighting or other options to make it look a little more futuristic or exciting.

I know this type of decision is a balancing act of disturbing its well-known look and also not making it look too cheesy with tons of lighting. But, I really think the exterior is boring and could use 'something'. Anyone agree? Has there been any word on an exterior refurb?

Judging by the tests I've watched, it is possibly the quietest coaster I've seen.
(Not sure if the audio will be audible from the ground or not. If you can't hear the rider beside you, maybe it won't be.)

They can't hear you. They have assumed the mandatory "head-in-sand" position I depicted a couple pages ago. Every other major park operator is investing in new attractions this year and next. Disney....refurb central.

We haven't gotten any word of any exterior work on the mountain, but most of us are definately hoping for it.
LED lighting? Yes, please.
New paint? Should be a no-brainer. Emphasis on "should".

Rip ride rockit virtual POV from orlando attractions magazine
Take a look at the official Rockit site for great onboard and offboard POVs. And more.

There was originally a package for exterior lighting, but audio was also on the table to begin with.

This is awsome!
