Soarin' New Show

I have seen a video someone put together of their idea of a Soarin Over Florida. It was actually quite good and it could be done in theory. Anyone who says there is not enough "material" in Florida is missing out. For example you have

1) The Everglades (which is amazing and beautiful from the air)
2) The "Overseas Highway" (remember the movie "True Lies"?)
3) Kennedy Space Center (Shuttle Launch)
4) Daytona Speedway (with a sell out crowd looks great----sorry Pumbas)
5) The Navy's Blue Angels out of Eglin AFB
6) Miami and Miami Beach (stunning at night from the air)
7) Bok Tower (again an amazing sight from the air)
8) Beaches of the Panhandle region
9) Disney Magic and Wonder cruise ships departing/arriving at Port Canaveral (Can you say Synergy)
10) and last but certainly not least Walt Disney World

I could go on but you get the idea. It would be great. Imagine that!

You might want to re-think where the United States Naval Flight Demonstration Squadron would fly out of...CERTAINLY not out of an AIR FORCE base in TAMPA! There are two more appropriate sites - 1.) Naval Air Station (N.A.S.) Jacksonville. NAS JAX is the considered to be the birthplace of the Blue Angles, or 2.), N.A.S. Pensacola, where they are based today.

That said, I DEFINITELY agree that any film about Florida would not be complete without the Blue Angles, but I also think a film about America in general, not just a single state, would be great. I'd LOVE to see what they could do with the Grand Canyon!

BTW, I live about three miles south of the small remote airfield that the Angles used to practice at, back in the late '40's and early '50's, before they became VF-91 (Satan's Kittens) to fight in the Korean action. The area is now a housing development, but you can still find some signs of the old airbase. Not for long, tho...development is quickly covering it up!

Soarin' is the #1 most popular attraction as WDW right now. When it doesn't have hour-long waits all day, every day of they year, then Disney will think about changing it. I think we're much more likely to get another theater (or two would be good) than a new film.

But, I would like personally love a "Soarin' Over America", or even "Soarin' Over the World", especially if they could make it longer than 5 minutes (since my only problem with the current film is that I think it's too short!).

You forgot they could soar over a swarm of Lovebugs...

I think the current ending should show WDW and not DL but that's my only gripe.

BTW I love that video posted, especially the flying over Universal Studios at the end :ROFLOL:

Soarin' over the world or the USA has long been rumored. I think it would have a lot more staying power than Soarin over California (at least in theory), however it doesn't seem that this is even remotely an issue at this time.

Because of the popularity of Soarin', I know there have also been rumors of a third screen (Although my understanding of how the current building is set up, two screens would be more logical. I'm guessing that if additional screens are built, an additional film will be added. However the opposite may not hold true.

Soarin over the USA or the World would take us back to Monsanto's Magic Carpet Around the World, which was the predecessor for TimeKeeper.

Except you'd get to sit down ! :)

How about Soarin' Over A Pancake? That would be about as exciting as Soarin' Over Florida.

Florida is a perfectly lovely state, with perfectly lovely people. But honestly gang, it has very little geographic diversity to make an aerial film worth watching for more than 60 seconds. And what geographic or points of aerial interest it does have, with broad beaches and some cities, are nothing really exclusive to the state of Florida. There are lovely beaches and dynamic city skylines in many other states besides Florida; some of which have even better looking beaches or even more impressive looking skylines.

California sets the bar pretty darn high when it comes to aerial filming a great multitude of environments and climates in one single state. And we shouldn't bash Florida, as there are really very few (read: none) other states that can offer up the stunning breadth of diversity that California offers, especially when filmed from the air.

Any new film for the Soarin' franchise should be either national or global in scope. The single state thing can't really ever be topped after Soarin' Over California set the standard very high.

I don't know if the average viewer thinks about it in terms of "why are we soarin over CA in FL?" I think they just enjoy it. I know I do. I like Florida, but find it hard to believe that the film would be as diverse and interesting. Now, Soarin over the USA or the World as mentioned, would be interesting. Though I would think America would be much easier to film than doing the whole world.

While I hope they eventually get a new film, it isn't on my top priority list. The attraction is still somewhat new itself. To put it into perspective, a new film for Muppets 3D? THAT's where I'd put my money!

ETA: OR as mentioned, but some of that $10 million (if that's accurate) into adding additional screens.

If "Soarin' Over the World" were a reality, you'd either have to tell the guest what land they are flying over or only show very recognizable places on Earth. Although various places could be shown without explanation.

The bigger the shoot and more diverse the locations, the more it`ll cost to shoot. An Omnimax shoot rates with CircleVision for complexity.

Plus, remember this is fan rumour. Nothing is in the works yet - well, not unless another parks shares the cost ;)

And, as mentioned above, it won`t change until the queues start to drop.

I think its silly to say a Soarin' over Florida couldn't offer just as good a film as a Soarin' over California. The climate may be different and there may not be a lot of diversity in terms of geography...but we have plenty of landmarks and natural wonders to enjoy from the air.

Someone mentioned Miami earlier. A 360 from Biscayne Bay just before the sun starts setting would be amazing. You catch the Beaches and the massive and growing Miami skyline.

Somethings we have here in Florida that are shown in the Cali video: Orange groves, carriers and jets, golf courses, beaches, disney park, cities. We don't have mountains or deserts, but even our beaches are not all the same, nor all our wetlands.

That being said, bring on Soarin' over the World, because I don't think the Florida one will ever come to be.
