Soarin' Expansion and new Soarin' Around the World film

I like the new version for a few reasons but I'm not sure that it captures the original version quite as well. Obviously the projection quality is incredible and truly immersive compared to the old tech. Everything is super clear and crisp, until you notice the CGI. In today's age of digital technology, I was really surprised with the quality... it didn't sell it for me. Surely they could have spent some more time creating hyper realistic graphics to match the real footage with some clever editing. Even my digitally challenged parents were able to spot the fake Taj Mahal and a few other moments.

As for the smells, I liked the grass smell but it was beyond subtle. The worst one is Fiji. It smells like an "Ocean Breeze" hand soap.

I appreciate the transitions better than the old one by using some creative cuts but why would they leave out a transition going from Fiji to the falls? Every other scene has a screen covering effect to transition except that one. Talk about jarring...

Overall I think it's an improved experience but it's far from perfect.

Well said, that's kind of where I fall with it.

I do wish DCA had kept the California version. How does soaring over China or Fiji fit a land they clearly made an effort to make consistent? I get they shouldn't be deprived of a new experience but would it have killed them to let each park have a different experience?

Probably because copy + paste was easier and cheaper, unfortunately.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
We saw Soarin Over the World ten times in September. We really enjoyed it. We also really enjoyed the fact that the wait was almost always 5 - 15 minutes, ie) a walk on. Would I have waited 45 minutes for it? Sure ... the first time.

Would I wait 45 mins for Soarin' Over California? Absolutely. At least two or three times per trip.

Enjoy < LOVE!

In my opinion, it's better than the original and heck, my mom loved it more than the original! ;) I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it.

Oh yes, much better than the original! Not only does it fit Epcot a lot more, it just has more . . . dynamism. The whole family prefers this one, and everyone I know IRL who has seen it.
One of the first changes for the BETTER in a long time at Epcot.

Just came back from DCA. Something about this new film was off. It didn't feel as iconic or monumental as the old film. I also felt like I was stagnant the whole time – there weren't as many swooping motions that made the California version so realistic. The CGI was noticeable, as well as the distortions on the buildings (especially the Eiffel Tower). And in my opinion, I thought the transitions were distracting. It actually made me appreciate the old jump cuts even more. Lol

My wife & I just got off of the ride at 6:45pm ET. We were in concourse C, loading area A, row 2, last two seats.

We enjoyed the ride, but noticed a lot of distortion on the objects during 2nd half of the show. Straight objects looked bent or curved...my wife even joked that she didn't know they changed it to the leaning tower of Eifel. It was VERY noticeable, to the extent that it took us out of the moment.

Not sure if it was something wrong with our particular rode, or if we just had a bad seat. But looks of things looked bad. I first noticed it on the Africa scene, it appeared that the elephants were falling down. The formations in monument valley appear curved, and the pyramids didn't looks straight.

Hoping it was just a glitch. I was disappointed...been looking forward to this for months and excited to see the new show.

I completely agree. It kind of ruined it for me. Especially the Eiffel tower. Wow- what happened??????

I like it but def like the older version better. I appreciate that it is cleaner and sharper but enjoyed the older version better.

The new one is odd. Even CGI aside, like has been mentioned the Eiffel Tower's "warped" view is strange. Not to mention the scents being pretty bad and there being too many scenes.

On a more positive note, the original Soarin' might come back to DCA!

It'd be cool if they just showed both and you got to choose which one you want to see there. Or if it was random.

But if it was random, you wouldn't know in advance if you were going to see the genuinely filmed beautiful scenery that is California, or if it you were going to be SOSFCQCGI (Soarin Over Sy Fy Channel Quality CGI)...
