Soarin' Expansion and new Soarin' Around the World film

They are just adding 1 theater to the existing 2 theater, so that's why it is half the size.
Yes, I know there were only going to be three. I just would have thought for all of that work they should have maybe doubled capacity. This way they would not have to possibly go back later and do another refurb to add an additional theater. or at least built the building large enough to handle two theaters. Then, just build one theater inside and use rest for backstage functions, office or whatever. Then if needed they could expand into a second new theater for a total of four.

I agree the placement could have been better if they wanted to save some of the space for later. They just plopped it down in the middle of the plot.

Personally I think it would be a dumb decision to leave the ride closed if the refurb was complete just because they are waiting for the new film.
I agree - I hope to see the old film one last time with enhanced quality in late May then catch the new one on our trip in the fall.

Soarin's wait times were crazy beforehand -- how much will this theatre speed things up, do you reckon? (I'm sure it's been mentioned before but I'm not sure where in these 95 pages..)

Truly pathetic, if true.

I don't give a duck about Shanghai, okay? Keep the damn ride closed until after their version opens and then open ours next. Typical Disney stupidity closing a ride to install a new film, only to re-open it six months later with the same boring film. Idiotic, no matter how you spin it. Good try though....

Wow, chill out, personally I'm glad I'll have a chance to see the California film again before it changes, especially since Disney didn't make any announcement that December could have been your last chance to see it. I know I'm certainly not alone in that sentiment, I love the film, and I certainly can't say I've ever come across anyone who really actively dislikes it, much less had such a hateful reaction towards it, so I think you're in the minority there.

No where did I state I hated the original o_O I was simply expressing my aggravation that the ride would re-open with the old film after being closed.

My mistake. I'm still glad I'll have the opportunity to see the original film one last time. I'm afraid with the likelihood that the new film won't have a Jerry Goldsmith score that I won't enjoy it anywhere near as much.

This isn't exactly recent news. Plus there's been Soarin' ripoffs since at least 2010.
It really looks like the same system from the small part they show. It has the metal loops on the side of each chair and of course the feet dangling in front of you.

Obviously it doesn't have the awesome soundtrack that Soarin' does, but I find myself asking why is Disney spending money on old tech. Tech that you can now find in a mall.

Really? Sorry, I don't mean to get into a fight here, but that's a very inconsiderate attitude to have. I, personally, know many people going to WDW during May and early June, and there will be about a million more that I don't know, and of course I want (and you should want) those people to have the best trip possible. Having the ride open will make everyone's day at Epcot, and their trip as a whole, better.

To keep something closed when it could be operating is so Disney-like, and so I applaud them for running the ride. It would've been easy to pretend that work was still being done and keep it closed, but they are doing the right (and smart) thing here. People on these boards and other superfans are so overly obsessed with grand openings and big reveals, but about 99.5% of guests couldn't care less. They just want to have a great trip and want as much to be open as possible. I'm glad that those who've never experienced Soarin' will be able to next month, and I don't think even a handful of those million guests will call the old film "boring."

If you think it's pathetic that they couldn't time the project correctly, I can maybe understand. But I can't understand wanting them to keep it closed. That's inconsiderate no matter how you slice it.

Plus, we wouldn't be getting the new film if not for Shanghai. So #thanksshanghai. I really mean it.

It's similar to Soarin' but boards on 3 levels instead of one. It's believed that Flight of Passage ride in Avatarland will use a similar ride system.

I was hoping FoP would be a little more high-tech. I thought this was going to be a "thrill" ride, unlike the current Soarin'. I will wait to judge it.
I remember when Disney didn't play it so safe. Sure, sometimes that means Test Track level problems, but without the 2 years of delays, we would have never gotten RSR at DCA.

I gotta get off the boards for a while. With the possible closure of Star Tours, the value-engineered version of the Slinky Dog coaster, budget cutbacks and general lack of caring I am seeing from Disney, I am starting to feel depressed.

Looks like Soarin' has some competition now. Is it in Universal, Sea World? ..... No. It is in the Mall of America.

I give you FlyOver America:

BGW has had a "flying over Europe" attraction for at least half a dozen years. It's bush-league compared to the quality of Soarin'. But of course The Sound of Music had flying over the Alps and West Side Story had flying over NYC back in the 60s. It's not just "concept", it scale and execution.

Well, for what it's worth, when I'm there at the end of May with my kids (providing it is open again) I'll be standing in line to enjoy the old version just as I have every time before. I'd greatly appreciate it if folk complaining about the new film not being shown at that time would steer clear of the Soarin' queue all together.

Soarin' and CAPT EO...
He was talking in the past, before Soarin'. Since no one has come up with a single attraction that opened with the exact same film in 2 different parks prior to this, then he was blowing smoke and making ludicrous statements like he has for years now.

Captain EO opened within days of each other at EPCOT Center and Disneyland in 1986 before rolling out to Tokyo Disneyland and Euro Disneyland. Honey, I Shrunk the Audience then replaced all of those films.

The CircleVision 360 films America the Beautiful and Wonders of China also overlapped in their presentations at Disneyland Walt Disney World.

MuppetVision 3D is at Disney's Hollywood Studios and was at Disney's California Adventure.

It's Tough to be a Bug is at Disney's Animal Kingdom and Disney's California Adventure.

Star Tours is at Disneyland, Disney's Hollywood Studios, Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris.

So when he claimed that Disney would never do this in the past, before the new Soarin', he was again just plain wrong. Thanks for making my point.
