Soarin' Expansion and new Soarin' Around the World film

Well, we know Disney hates spending excess money on things, but even more, they hate spending on maintenance budgets. In this case it would be the lights for the projectors. So from that perspective, perhaps going laser would appeal to their bean counters. It would be awesome to see the new digital every time one rides and know that the video will forever be flawless. Add the laser and the brightness would forever be bright. Too promising to believe (or have hope of)!

high power lasers have a limited lifetime and required replacement every few thousand hours of operation...

Really? That seems to defeat the purpose. Well nuts to that!

here's what the management heard blah, blah, blah,LASERS,blah,,blah, blah, Not that the laser modules were good for say 2000H of on time and then they require replacement with a 5 figure price tag. This is the same problem always seen with non-technical managers making decisions involving technology.

Hmm, at what past attraction has a different film been made for each park? I'm drawing a blank.

I know we think of cloned attractions these days but Every attraction and film piece that opened with EPCOT was made specifically for EPCOT. Not to mention the attraction work themselves. That alone shows that the level used to be done.

But there are minor segment differences between many of cloned attractions that allow it to fit the theme of where it resides.

God I really hope they try to re-orchestrate it. It's such a great theme and would be a huge loss. It's been tough to find memorable themes in recent attractions and this one sticks out as one of the greats in the past 15 years.
I also hope they keep at least *some* of the "classic" Soarin' theme (at least at the beginning and end of the ride), but also look forward to some new music in the film as well.

I'd also love to see a random-destination sequence like Star Tours, but am keeping my expectations really low for that. I'm guessing if that was ever even suggested and moved to production we would have heard about it by now. Likely would involve too much work for an attraction that is already popular enough. Perhaps that can be saved for version 2.1 in a few years...

I'm just sick of the excuses that continue to be tossed about. The bottom line is re-opening the ride without the new film is stupid. I don't care that some family from Small Town USA won't know any different. I don't care that Bob Iger's pet project has the "rights" to it first (another stupid decisions, but whatever). Its just another trend of Disney making dumb decisions and I'm fed up.

Personally I think it would be a dumb decision to leave the ride closed if the refurb was complete just because they are waiting for the new film.

So because you do not like the old film, others should not have a chance to see it. I am sure there are thousands of people at Epcot each day that have never ridden on this ride. You seem to just be looking for something to complain about. If they where not reopening, you would be complaining about that.

The ride opening with the old film aside, these thousands of people could have come in the ten years that Epcot was showing the original film. Maybe there were reasons why people could not come, but unfortunately it does not work like that. I never got to experince the original Universe of Energy. I havr never been upset because the ride was there until I rode it.

At some point people are going to miss out...it's a shame but it is true.

I would like to see the new film, but I'm not going to lie about being actually super ecstatic at the possibility of seeing the old film one last time! Maybe they'll have soft openings for the new one during my trip and I'll get to see both :) (a girl can dream!)

So let me review...

-Disney closing attractions or other things in the park to save money, giving the Guests less to do for their ever-increasing ticket prices is BAD.

-Disney refurbishing an extremely-popular attraction and re-opening it at the end of the refurb running the old version because the new one can't be shown yet (regardless of the reason behind the film delay), thus giving Guests more things to do in the park for their ever-increasing ticket prices is ALSO BAD.

OK, got it. Moving on...

Latest Google Earth Imagery as of 2016-03-05. I would have thought the theater addition would have been as large as the first. Oh, well.
