So we're exactly 3 years away from WDW's 40th. When do they start prepping?

Any idea when it'll be finished?

Nope.
As I was discussing with a fellow poster, that's kinda what has kept me from spilling that earlier...the uncertain timeframe.
But, yeah, around the 40th time frame would seem likely.

Expansion = AK. Bulldozers and whatnot, coming in '09.

w00t!!! I knew it was on the table, but I figured it wouldn't happen. I guess I am so used to getting my hopes up only to have them dashed by Disney.

Thanks for sharing the news Lee!

Okay, this is going to be unpopular but here it goes. I don't see why something grand is expected every 5 years for the "anniversary." I mean, 25th, 50th, etc. okay those are milestone anniversaries. But I don't see what the big deal about "40" is....sorry. Sure it would be nice to see some new rides, I'm not saying it wouldn't be...but we're 3 years out and people are already talking about it? Just seems like a bit much.

I tend to agree. I don't really view the 40th as a "big" anniversary (though of course I welcome the new attractions! :sohappy: )

When the 50th comes around, though, I hope they're planning massive stuff all over the resort.

10 years is a long time...It would work.;)

*ahem*...

Lee, does this expansion of Animal Kingdom possibly have anything to do with the glimmer of hope that was expressed in the letter writing for the AC thread?

Because a Jules-Verne themed AC wouldn't be that bad... it'd certainly solve Animal Kingdom's keep-them-all-night-to-sell-them-stuff problem...

DCA's expansion press release specifically mentions that Radiator Springs Racers would be an E-Ticket ride. They did not make such a claim for Little Mermaid though it listed a big budget. I wonder why they didn't specifically call LM an E-Ticket while pointing that out for RSR?

That exact question and concept were addressed in an Al Lutz update on Miceage several months ago. The Readers Digest version is that WDI is hesitant to label the Little Mermaid as an E Ticket now because too many people now equate "E Ticket" with "Thrill Ride".

The Little Mermaid is an E Ticket in the 1960's definition of the word. That is; no height requirement and something everyone from babies to grandparents can go on together, long cycle time in an Omnimover clamshell vehicle, impressive building with themed queue, big lavish sets, nifty and modern special effects, advanced animatronics doing a series of big musical production numbers as you glide past tapping your toes. Think Pirates, Small World, Haunted Mansion, etc. All of a sudden it's 1967 again.

Little Mermaid is not a thrill ride, and I guess too many folks now think E Ticket means "roller coaster" or "thrill ride with height requirement".

At least that's what Al Lutz has said was the thinking behind the WDI presentations to the media regarding DCA's new Little Mermaid ride for 2011.

I dunno dude AK seems like bluesky stuff for like 2015.

Sure. Stuff could be opening in 2015, that's possible I suppose.
But...I was told flat-out: "Dirt will start moving at Animal Kingdom next year."
Others here can confirm.

Still trying to dig out all the details.

Half rignt.:D

Oh, and I didn't mean to imply that the two things I mentioned would be all that was happening. Just the two things from my understanding that are most close to getting underway.

If I was betting I would guess the LM is the half right. BTW, Lee, thanks for helping us keep our excitement up for upcoming attractions. I sometimes grief is given about how you are cryptic - but hey, I want you to keep your job! Besides for me, I like the tease, so I can sit and imagine all the possibilities - it keeps me going until the next adventure to my favorite place on Earth! (okay, the long and short of that is - thanks for all that you share with us!)

I am hoping there is something new in every park for the 40th. Personally I would like to see them complete the SM refurb (done well) and Little Mermaid added (as part of the rumored major Fantasyland makeover).

Epcot needs something new in WS (country or ride).

DHS-new coaster to Pixar Place and new Star Tours.

AK- New immersive FotLK "theater-in-the round" in Africa and even more important.....

.....the shutting down of CMM for "future expansion" and the announcement of the new land as part of the 40th anniversary kickoff:sohappy:

That would be nice! I love AK, but I would really love to see some additional experiences there.
