So I got this big funky survey about WDW in the mail today…

Doesn't sound like a Disney survey...

I've had them send me requests in the mail, with a Disney address on them, to go fill out surveys online, which I've willingly done...however, an 8 page survey? never.

The accompanying sheet says that it was sent to 5,500 pass holders. Anyone else get one?
My guess is the questionnaire is on behalf of Disney, if not I'd be wondering how some other company found out that I was a pass holder :lookaroun

I got one today. The last line has me concerned..."You may also write to this address if you want your name to be removed from future sweepstakes mailings."

I’m pretty sure it’s going to the circular file at this point but I’m going to try giving Disney another call on Monday. A part of me would like to think that it is in fact for them because some of the questions/statements are things that it seems like they should sort of be asking and looking for legitimate answers on. I’m thinking that Saturday is probably not the best day of the week to call when looking for someone who knows what is going on in a Disney office but I’m pretty sure that this one is dead in the water at this point. Just the same, I would think that someone there would be interested in knowing that their fan base is being questoined in detail by someone else in an unsolicited manner. After all, somebody is putting a good bit of effort into getting this info out of us. :(

BTW, I checked out the website http://www.marketfacts.com/ looks like they are the ones that sent it.

Trust me when I say that no one who you call at disney would be able to tell you that this is a disney survey or not. This survey was probably started by one CM in marketing who contracted out to this company to provide and administer the survey.. This CM would not tell anyone except his bosses in marketing that this survey was being done. No one in passholder relations or guest relations would know this was going on. With 50,000 CM's the chances of the person who you talk to knowing about it is next to nothing.

Hits head on wall.

Whap. Whatp. :brick:

Whens this 'loyal to Disney so your wrong' BS going to end? Everyother word that comes out of my mouth and onto the keys and up here is being determined slanted that I like Disney.

Steriotypes my friends, steriotyeps. So now I guess your the same person who sands outside of the gates with a megaphone yelling, "DISNEY'S CORRUPTING YOUR MINDS!", right?

Uh, one CM would not have the power to start, contract out, or even release a survey unless it was a VP or President of marketing, especially an 8 page one.

Even if it was a president or VP, I think that the survey would have more of a Disney presence (logo, notice, or something else that would distinguish it was from Disney), the marketing department would know what was going on, and passholder/guest relations would be told as well.

Getting an in-depth, un-Disneylike survey (length, type of questions) would/should raise some flags for the people getting them. I would think that Disney would be contacted about this survey by more than one person. Thus letting guest/passholder relations know would be a good idea and one that I think that relations departments would know.

Disney contracts out for quite a few surveys and the one you described is an official one.

I don’t mean to be doubting you but how is it you know this if it is possible that so few people know what’s going on with this kind of thing?

I would want to know where it came from and if it isn't Disney; then I'd want Disney to know. I realize we live in a "Those people don't give a hoot about you" society, but the fact that Disney sold your names to an outside company bothers me. As passholders, you should be very respected by the Company. Since my dad is a detective, I'm a bloodhound myself. I'd search until I got an answer and not an answer from a 'pea-on'.

I'd say that it's really unlikely that Disney sent it out. Disney has their own research people- the ones who stand in the parks and take surveys. I've also gotten a few surveys in the mail from them. Since they have their own department doing surveys, why contract out?

Right...

So the question is...how did they (this other company) get the names/addresses of Passholders? Is Disney selling this info...to like say, a marketing company..or anybody that throws some money there way? If so.... isnt that kinda shady?

MrP....when you sign up for a pass.... is there something like a Privacy Policy on any of the paper work ?

Anywhoo... I don’t think the company who sent this survey out can tell you which client this survey is for... I am sure there is a confidentiality agreement... Most marketing companies have something to that effect for there clients. :)

Paperwork?

As a FL resident, getting an AP consists of showing them your drivers license as proof of residency and so that they can get your address off of it and that’s about it. The process is probably not all that more involved than getting a hopper pass. I don’t think there has ever really been any paperwork. At one time, you had to wait in long lines to get your picture taken with Polaroid cameras so that they could make up your AP with it but that was… gosh… a long time ago… Universal still makes you get the picture taken but beyond that step, the process is about the same as it is for Disney…

I highly doubt that Disney has started selling information about pass holders to anyone. Aside from it not seeming like the right thing to do it doesn’t seem like it would be in their own best interest to do so since keeping that kind of information confidential would prevent competitors from sending me things like this survey. They have plenty of their own assorted products that they could market themselves while keeping everything in the Disney family to begin with. I find it hard to believe that they could actually get enough money from selling their customers’ information to make it worth their while to violate the trust of their customers and to at the same time be handing them over to potential competitors. I could be totaly wrong but I would like to think that they arn't stupid enough to do that kind of thing...

OH yeah....I forgot to say I am totaly assuming here... yeah, I do not think they would do such a thing... but....ya never know :)

I am in a position to know and steve can vouch for me on that cause. I'm not saying that one CM could start a survey however it is possible that someone high up in marketing (which has offices in many places including Anaheim, Miami, Orlando, NYC) could have pulled the passholder database and contracted to the third party company and provided them the questions and addresses to send it out.

Not a big deal really.. Surveys like this from 3rd party companies do get sent out *all* the time to resort guests, cruise guests, annual passholders.. you name it. It's a form of targeting marketing.. They could decide to just send it out to folks who live in a certain zip code in georgia.. Sometimes they are very specific.

The thing is, are you in a position to know about this specific survey being sent out by this company? According to you, it isn't uncommon for most of the company to be unaware of these surveys. The other thing that bothers me about it is that it isn't anonymous. My name is linked to that survey (the simple fact that they are offering a prize and nothing else that gets mailed back indicates that I responded seems proof of this) and the questions about feelings on things are a bit personal in nature. That information could easily be used to market items directly to me as an individual and there is no indication from anything that was sent to me, that they don't plan to use that information for this purpose. There is no privacy policy listed anywhere in regards to it. If this was done for Disney, it was done in a very poor fashion.

I tried calling yesterday and was told that the people I needed to speak to at the time were currently out of the office for lunch and since I was doing this from work, it wasn't convenient for me to try again... Things got a little interesting when I got a second identical survey in the mail last night with a different bar code on it so... Looks like I'm going to have to wait till tomorrow to try calling again.

Im doubting that this survey was sent by Disney, or sent to another company to represent Disney....ANYTHING I have ever recieved in the mail from them has always had the Icon all over it, or official letterhead, and contact info from the company itself, with usually a name or department to contact with questions...
Disney does have their own survey people in the parks..and since passholders go more often than other folks, they would be the ones most likley to be answering questions AT the parks...
I would toss it...
