So are we to assume that nothing new is coming to AK or Epcot until atleast 2014?

Maybe 2010 will be the year we get new Parades and Firework Shows. Doubt it, but it would be nice.

I'm guessing that if anything was to come to AK it would be that Mythical Island (just calling it that since there are so many different names) and if that were to come my guess is it wouldn't be until 2014 or 2015. Maybe they'll announce something at next years Expo though.
Sounds plausible!

Theory: Those are always used for Anniversaries and Celebrations...And 2011 is just a year after that...
Nothing coming and nothing officially coming are two different things.
Exactly. Look at Innoventions.

I think we need to remember that D23 Expo isn't the only avenue for these announcements. Timing-wise it all worked out this year, but Disney have other big opportunities to announce things, and I'm sure they will use those.

What is October 1st? Does Disney annonce stuff on that date too? I know it's a Disney date, but I never knew what it actually meant. :(

Is there any presence of Figment since, out of all possible characters to choose from, he was advertised.

Oct 1st is the start of the new fiscal year, and is sometimes used for PR.

And, of course it's the opening day for MK and EPCOT.:D

Other attractions, like Horizons opened then, too.

There isn't a set timetable or specific dates for announcements. They go with whatever works best for them in terms of timing and reach.

Oct 1 is significant in terms of parks openings. :)

I'd say that statement is accurate (I don't even think you need the loosely clause). I'm not trying to be a debbie downer, and I'm actually VERY excited about the expansions/additions, but it's still just an expansion of a land to include 1 ride and a bunch of M/Gs and a refurb of another ride. Compared to additions of new lands and such, this is nothing. I mean, the ST2 thing can be compared to the SM refurb starting to finish up right now.

Disney is not about rides, six flags and Universal are. If they live up to the concept art this is a huge deal and is where Disney's appeal lies - Theming, Story, and rides.

I know its not much but Epcot is getting a more substantial Innoventions Plaza refurbishment than originally expected. It's a nice change and could be alluding to something bigger.

Um. Yes they are. They are just ALSO about showmanship and theming.

See everything, this is why we have Steve! Always the voice of reason and optimism. :sohappy:

It's sort of irrational to think that WDW is going to limit itself to only the FL project and Star Tours 2, just because that's all Jay talked about at D23.

While AK may be stagnant for a while (until attendance again justifies the need for more), and this is probably all that will happen at MK through 2013 - we can't say that DHS and EC will be ignored.

We can see that Epcot is gradually getting a minor facelift - with the Innoventions re-skinning and possible removal of the Y2K canopies. So, at least they're showing that they care. WoL Pavilion is still sitting there, and I'm sure there are plenty of Blue Sky ideas for it that we don't know about.

DHS got TSMM, and is about to get an updated SW2, but there is so much potential elsewhere (updated or replaced backlot tour, Muppet stuff, additions/refurbs in Pixar Place, and now Marvel crap).

Like Steve said, D23 was just a conveniently timed venue through which to announce what we all already knew (because of leaks). Epcot and DHS have birthdays coming up, and October is always a good time to release news.

I'm optimistic that the other parks will continue to see some tender loving care - even if it doesn't mean an E-Ticket at each one. The fact that they're cleaning up makes me happy.

There are about dozen WDW projects that are screaming at the top of the list for a green light. If and when they get one it will make for another hoopla.

Don`t ask what they are... most have already been discussed. If and when they happen then we`ll all know.

I don't expect anything 'major' anytime soon for either EPCOT or DAK. What should they build anyway?

FW is pretty much complete. I'd be happy if we got to see our refurbs, overhauls, and the finish of a certain previous refurb.
WS could really do with a new country or ride. Nobody seems to be willing to foot the bill.

Besides, EPCOT has already received its fair share of 'princess meet 'n greets plus landscaping' projects in recent years...:lookaroun

DAK will hopefully at some point get an entire new area, but precisely because of the scope and budget of the rumoured projects, I think this will wait until after 2011-12.

Although I'm not anticipating anything major in Epcot or AK before 2012 or 2013, I would not consider Epcot anywhere near complete. Future World has quite a bit of dead space, most notably, Wonders of Life. But I don't think anyone here would be shocked to see Ellen's Energy Adventure replaced or a major change to the Imagination pavilion.

As for upcoming announcements, I do kind of like the idea of holding major announcements at an annual convention, it builds anticipation, and if Disney can keep a tighter seal on what's to be announced it would make the event even more special than it already is.

I think there will be some significant refurbishments that take place while the parks prepare for Star Tours 2.0 and the Fantasyland Expansion. Several attractions are in need of refurbishments, and I expect changes to some of the classics as part of these refurbishments.

By no means do I expect Disney to have nothing planned between now and the next D23 convention. I would actually expect a smaller announcement (whatever it may be) relatively soon after Universal's Harry Potter press conference this week. It may come in the form of additional information about Star Tours or Fantasyland, or it may be an announcement of an upcoming refurbishment.

Methinks the hoopla was a hint.
