Snow White to get a semi-permanent meet and greet at the Germany pavilion

 They wanted to open up their Market. I don't blame them.

This is the kind of stuff I don't mind...Notice that while there are characters and it's pure entertainment, they still have the inspiring and educating going on, in other areas of the park too. It's all a big mix.:)
Gotcha. Since it was a show from the early years, it gets a pass.

Gotta wonder though... if Snow White had been appearing at Germany in 92, would this even be an issue? Seems to me that the view of Epcot by several is based off some myopic view of park history and memories.

I bet she was.

And maybe the myopic view isn't as nearsighted as you think.;) Maybe they want exactly what EPCOT Center was back then. Entertaining with characters, Informing and Inspiring with WS Pavilions and FW attractions.

I wouldn't mind it. Kinda like Kim Possible.

Figment,

You really need to take a few breaths...

I agree with everyone else. This is a great addition. I feel Disney really has been doing a great job incorporating all the Meet and Greets into the themes and areas they are in. Not too long ago as we all remember, the characters would just be standing in the middle of nowhere or get tackled by a mass of people with lines forming in the middle of nowhere and fights almost breaking out due to 'cutting' and a lack of control. Now, in almost every case, the area is themed, it is out of the way, it is safer for the crowd AND the character, there is no stress of people cutting, and the character tends to make sense in the area he/she is located. So, I think Snow White's addition here is great.

And like a few people have said Figment, Snow White and many of these characters have a great deal to do with the education and the culture of these countries. Some of these stories are hundreds of years old and ingrained in their culture like Ariel to Denmark and Snow White to Germany. Yes, Disney 'Disney-fied' them, but these stories are still tied to the country.

But most importantly, EPCOT is still a Disney park. I feel you can learn a lot at EPCOT and Animal Kingdom, but they are still parks. And it is about fun, enjoyment, and bringing smiles to kids' faces. If you do not want that and you just want to learn, then simply go to the museum or do a science project. But, being upset about kids (and many adults) getting their picture, creating a memory, and being happy when you simply could walk by on your 'path of discovery', is just ludicrous.

Okay, maybe I need to take a deep breath now....haha
Agreed, Figment...disrespect the children who visit, disrespect the man who created this Wonderful World for families.

Epcot still inspires me... M:S inspires me not to ride it... Journey Into Your Imagination inspires me to turn away from the pavilion...

World Showcase inspires me to visit and take my time walking through each country... And guess what? If a character is doing a meet and greet, the country STILL inspires me... I don't suddenly become DUMB cause a character shows up.. Honestly, to me, the appearance of a character in the country their story originates from gives me the goosebumps... To me, that is an example of the little things Disney does to make the guest experience that much better..

But Figment, even though we don't all agree with you, you are entitled to your opinion... You just over reacted to it.. Like this was the end of WDW...

My first trip to WDW was when I was in second grade (1987). I loved Magic Kingdom, and MGM Studios was kinda neat. Epcot was a complete and utter snooze fest for me. The most interesting things I can remember about Epcot was meeting Figment and the Dreamfinder, and my mother nearly getting pooped on by a bird in the World Showcase.

I couldn't tell you why we were walking around a huge lake, and frankly I didn't care. There was nothing (as a kid) to do that interested me there. Now, as an adult, I appreciate the Showcase, but because now it's interesting to me. Mostly due to the alcohol ;)

When I was a kid, if I'd had the chance to visit a bunch of other characters than Figment, I probably would have enjoyed the Showcase more. Sure I probably wouldn't have connected WHY specific characters were in specific countries, but it would have made me more interested to take a better look around the various areas to see if there were other characters around. Thus, unintentionally I maybe could have learned something more about the individual Pavillions. Ah, edu-tainment.

So yes, I think this new meet and greet area is great to go forward with, especially if it sparks any new interest with the kids to come back and see more of Epcot on each of their subsequent visits.

Well all good things must come to an end I guess.

Your vision of Epcot, either sadly or necessarily, came to an end a while ago... I love the old Epcot too... Believe me, I do... I love the music, the pavilions... Everything, well, almost everything, the old Epcot gave us... But, times they are achanging... And what I have seen Epcot start to transform into does not upset me... Nemo really isn't that bad... And let's face it, people now actually attend the Living Seas pavilion.... Once Journey is redone, hopefully right this time, and the SSE descent is complete, Epcot will still be one fine theme park... And, dare I say, even better... :)

I hope do it just feels so different to me, I'll be in WDW in August and I hope I still love Epcot. I usually get chills when I walk under SSE, I hope that hasn't changed?

I may actually agree with some points being raised throughout this thread (Mostly that they need to finally get the JII Epic redo done already), but I feel the need to post this.

Fig, take it from me... Epcot has always been my second favorite... However, after last October's trip, I can honestly say, I re-fell in love with the park... And now, it is dag near my favorite... Like I said, a new Journey, a new pavilion for WoL, a do over of Maelstrom, and Epcot will be just fine... There is just something about the park that gives me the good chills... I hope you do enjoy it too.. Just give it a chance and do not go there with the "ALL HOPE FOR EPCOT IS LOST" mentality... Then you won't enjoy it....

Thanks Im sure Im over reacting and I guess clinging to the past and I'll be surrounded by family who love WDW so how bad can it be, if they want to meet SW I'll stop by the RC for a pint.

You said WOL what would you like to see happen there. Personaly it was my least favorite (even though I miss it now) I'd like to see a weather pavillion.

I'm with ya. It was nice to have an area where you could sit and relax, enjoy a drink and not have to look over and see some dirtbag changing their kids diaper on the bench next to you and then throwing it under the bench. Probably won't happen with just one added character, but its a continuing trend and a sleazy way to cover up adding an attraction or ride so I'm sure it will get worse.

Yeah, some variation on StormRider would be fantastic to put into the old WoL building.

Something new... Body Wars was never a favorite of mine, so I don't miss it... I would really wish they would extend the Mission:SPACE pavilion, and give us a real space pavilion... Even a dark ride of some sort... A weather pavilion would work there...

And that's the spirit... if family wants to go meet Snow White, and that isn't your cup of tea, there is a million other things for you to kill time with.. In fact, walk around the German pavilion, because, from the pictures, this looks like it won't be interfering with the pavilion square at all...
