Snow White to Close Thursday, May 31

Informed folks know that well, and can watch Walt's EPCOT '66 film from October, 1966 to see the ugly details on that exact fact, especially at the 2:00 minute mark in Walt's EPCOT '66 film here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxC_a7qnGi8&feature=related

But it's fascinating to see modern Disney's marketing machine bury that uncomfortable history in order to sell more vacation packages to Florida under a "Walt" mystique. They pretend Walt cared about Magic Kingdom Park, they pretend he didn't die five years before the place opened in '71 looking nothing like he thought it would back in '66, and they pretend he had some emotional connection to the 1980's touristland that grew up on his property that was supposed to host EPCOT.

I took a Magic Backstage tour at Magic Kingdom Park with my Dad some years ago, and the historical innacuracies and outright lies the tour guide recited about Walt's involvement with the park was hilarious. I'm sure the tour guide meant well, and bless him he probably was only reciting what he'd been told to, but it was just painful to hear how misguided so many are about Walt Disney World and it's ties to Walt Disney instead of the Theme Park Operating Committee Circa 1969-70 that actually built the place.

Remind me not to take the Magic Backstage Tour.

SWSA Final Night, Part 4 - The Big Ending

There is still one more blog post lined up for that night, and epilogue to tie everything up, but your question is answered in this current entry.

What a perfect and fitting ending for SWSA. That certainly brought a tear to my eye...AGAIN.

Kudos to Stacey, the CM's of the attraction and to WDW for making all this a reality for Ben.

When I first heard about the closing of the attraction, I wondered how this would affect Ben. It certainly seems to have been a great experience for him, and a learning one as well.

And in answer to the question I frequently get - "How did you keep track of how many rides Benjamin had been on?"

Of course, I used the very excellent RideCounter iPhone app from WDWMagic.com!

What did you use before we had this technology? Good old fashioned notepad and pencil?

Originally I kept a running count in my head for each trip, and then posted it to LiveJournal when I got home. I continued posting the counts in my blog (if you were to dig through the archives you would see a great many posts titled "Snow White's Scary Adventures - A Running Tally"). When this app came out, I spent one evening just sitting and tapping the Count button until I got it up to the current total at that time. Once I started using the app I got much less frequent with the running tally posts, every few months I would go back through the history in the app and post them in bulk.

Excellent read Lokheed! I'm going to pass your blog along to Stacey so she can read it! I was there for the last ride and once y'all came back and we all started clapping it was very touching! Please let us know how everything goes when you make it back to the parks.

Stopped by Magic Kingdom today, Saw the Construction walls around Snow White (they already have the attraction sign down, and the banners on the poles gone), and thought to myself "I can't believe this happened" and actually got a lil sad.

Hoping that ben does good on his 1st trip back.

Great story, and thanks for sharing! Fantastic that our RideCounter App got used for such a thing. Your early stories about all of Ben's ride were one of the things that inspired me to get that app done.

I've enjoyed reading all your posts on Ben, Lokheed. Not just the ones posted here, but elsewhere online too. It really shows how much joy the attraction and Disney has brought to him. I hope Ben is able to cope with the closing of the ride and enjoys the new LM one as much as you think he will.

I was hoping that when Snow White closed that they would be opening the new Little Mermaid ride. Hoping for a soft opening of new Fantasyland attractions in August. Hope construction moves along.

Really sad that I won't get to ride this when I go to WDW in July. I always loved this ride. I'm just sad that it's closed to make way for another meet and greet.

We were planning on taking him this afternoon/evening, but decided against it due to weather. Odds are we will take him on Friday.
Thank you so much for sharing this story!! I was wondering if you werre able to take Ben back to the park? If so I hope it went well.
