This thread has really ignited my desire to see the previous versions of the ride! While we are throwing out potential narrator suggestions, has anyone already mention Oprah? While I don't think she would be the best fit, I think there could be logic in placing her there. She was named a "Disney Legend" and is staring in one of their big tent-pole movies this year.

In brief...

Dawn of time projection system and material

All AAs either replaced or received compliant limbs

Off ride audio score

Cinema scene rebuilt

Living room rebuilt

New computer room

And then the problems began...

I always thought the problems were "out of money" problems... were there others???

The 17:51 mark of the 82' video better explains the attraction's plot and purpose of it's name. Before my time, but a solid attraction. Today's version seems worse by comparison.

82 was dry and boring...By far the worst version on the way up and second worst on the way down. The one we all think of as "classic" was the second version with Cronkite. Amazing how much a proper narration and score can improve something.

Before my time. From the videos I get a greater sense of the ride's purpose. It isn't as apparent in the current version. Must be the script.

It’s amazing the 82 version of the parks iconic attraction had no real musical score. Especially when you consider the rest of the park was so rich in music.

No, history has nothing to do with it. This descent - and its basic errors - has been discussed to death over the last ten years.

As has also been discussed, the ascent was mostly changed for the better. There’s a shock. Change was good.

For me personally I preferred the old ascent, it was dark and mysterious and you were climbing with no idea what was to come which made it exciting. Now its all brightly lit with wrinkled curtains and a dang camera in your face taking your picture. Just seemed like better Imagineering than what they did ten years ago. but again just my own preference.

was rather dry and got, dare i say, a lil preachy towards the end...
it also compares poorly, as most attempts would, to mr. cronkite swooping in - what a genius stroke it was bringing a certifiable icon of broadcasting into the mix and giving him such turns of phrase.

i've wondered, however, why walter wasn't in the '82 version as he had been doing promotional materials even before opening
