Should we expect any major announcements regarding WDW at D23 expo next month?

First, the parks aren't being sold - at least not anytime soon. Second, what, if any, are the latest 5th park rumors? I've seen a magazine and a podcast advertising new 5th park rumors, but I haven't read or heard about it. Is it the usual suspects or something new? :)

Here are my guesses:

- Disney announces something similar to the Happiest Celebration on Earth campaign where all the parks got something to celebrate Disneylands 50th, except we'll be celebrating MK's 40th.

- It will be announced that Primeval Whirl is being removed from AK and they will announce a large Fantasyland type expansion for AK.

- For the Studios I would imagine it would be the Monsters Inc coaster or a version of Cars Land.

- Epcot will get an updated Imagination pavilion.

- MK will get back an updated version of SpectroMagic, some continued upgrades to classic rides like the Jungle Cruise and maybe something to replace Stitchs Great Escape.

Is it possible to elaborate any more, Juan?

WDW is getting some duplicates from SDL.

SDL pays for engineering, design, and planning; Disney only needs to change quantity to manufacturer to 2 for it to be a cheap and cost-effective addition to WDW.

ie. DLR/DCA paid for leg work for Toy Story Mania and Little Mermaid, WDW gets a duplicate for cheap.

Is the TRON coaster still viable, or is that still scrapped?

Come on , FLE is one of the biggest upgrades to any of the parks that i can remember since animal kingdom and thats 1998. If we got a FLE sized expansion to DHS or AK i think the crowd would be crazy not to go nuts at the annoucnement
Hey, I wasn't knocking the FLE--I'm excited about it, especially now that we're getting the mine train instead of the M&Gs. I was just pointing out, to the other poster who marveled at the D23 enthusiasm for the original FLE announcement, that the D23 crowd is predisposed to enthusiasm. Whether they were right to go nuts over the FLE reveal or not, it was probably inevitable.

I'll add, though, that size isn't everything. I remember when Dino-Rama was announced for AK, Eisner pushed it as almost a whole new land, which is true in a sense, but it was also true that it was a land of cheap junk. What makes FLE exciting is not just the scope of the project, but that most of what's going in there looks like old-school Disney quality (I feel like the jury is still out on the circus area).

I think everyone attending the D23 Expo should hold up a Yeti plush doll during the "What's Next, What's New" segment. :sohappy:

Or Disco Yeti shirts...

Well there is a lot happening at Shanghai that directly affects WDW.

That makes some sense. The latest I had been hearing was that the Tron Coaster wasn't happening for WDW, but further gone plans (Seven Dwarf's Mine Train) have been dusted off.

Here's a hypothetical regarding Dinorama. I'd argue that the biggest beef people have with that land is Primeval Whirl. Something about the mass of steal with moderate theming doesn't sit well with people. If instead of Primeval Whirl, they had a C-Ticket dark ride with cartoonized versions of Dinosaurs I think the complaints about Dinorama would be far less. Having said that, I wouldn't oppose to all of DinoRama being replaced.

Anytime you hear the phrase "5th park"... Just go ahead and tune out. Nothing happening there...

You're close to correct as far as I'm concerned and of course, I can only speak for myself. PW looks cheap and the carnival section, tents with games and whatnot look even more cheap and thrown in there. If they removed that stuff and added theming and another "permanent looking" ride (sell PW to a fair operator) like you said, then you have a Disney style land, albeit a small one. Ditch the "Route 66" stuff as well, just make it an Animal Kingdom style path.

I'm positive the Tiki Room will not be a scrapped project. It's scheduled to reopen soon and they're working on the thing right now.

I know these are longs shots but this is my wish list of things I hope we hear:

1. Journey into Imagination 4
2. Soarin' Around the World
3. A new permanent attraction in WOL
4. Brazil in the World Showcase
5. MI Coaster in DHS
6. Something to replace BLT
7. Long awaited update to The Great Movie Ride
8. Australia or Beastly Kingdom in DAK
9. Yeti being fixed
10. Attractions from Shanghai that WDW will also get (other than SDMC)

Interview with Jonathan Freeman, voice of Jafar, for that Aladdin musical points towards a villain attraction being in development, though no park specified.

http://www.seattleweekly.com/2011-07-06/arts/villainy-for-the-long-haul/

In fact, during a phone interview between Seattle rehearsals for the much-anticipated new Aladdin stage adaptation, Freeman accidentally lets something slip about an unannounced battle-your-favorite-baddies Disney park attraction in which the venal Vizier would appear. But he quickly catches himself and summarizes his situation another way.

9. Yeti being fixed

Others have said that too. I really hope they dont announce that, something thats broke doesnt need a press conference to announce they are fixing it. Its just something they should do for the sake of good show.

I will be shocked if we hear anything thats more than just a bunch of fluff. I hope for an AK expansion but I really just doubt it. I would love to be proven wrong though.

For me personally, it definitely is not just PW, it's the entire "Chester & Hester's Dino-Rama" theme. There is such wasted potential there imo. Using paleontology and prehistoric life and landscapes they could have created a much more immersive and visually appealing experience for children and adults alike.

My Guess: They will highlight the FLE, they will highlight DCA, they will plug how well ST went. Possibly with no real new announcements.

I would love for them to announce a new Brazilian pavilion coming to Epcot, a re-imagined Imagination pavilion, and a new WoL pavilion. I can only dream of a fully functioning Epcot.
