Should we expect any major announcements regarding WDW at D23 expo next month?

Nobody on the boards knows for sure whether they are working on a 5th park or not. Most board moderators like to take the conservative route with the topic - deny at all costs. I've seen new 5th park rumors advertised both on a pop-cultural podcast, which was dated March 2011 and in a Disney Arts and Craft Magazine - which was dated June or July 2011. In the later, it claimed that there was a lot to talk about with the subject. I was just asking if anyone has heard any new rumors concerning it. With all the trial balloons Disney has raised through Villain park rumors on the Net, it isn't something that should be dismissed. Trust me, the newbies who ask or tell about the 5th park aren't all Disney Geeks. Many of them are from within the company, trying to gauge public reaction to new ideas. :)

Whatever Lee says we all know it is based in truth. Lee and Martin are two people who have legitimate sources within the company.

As for a hotline to Iger...I'm not sure about Lee, but there is another "insider" whom I talk to who does infact have Iger's number. Does he use it....probably not.... would probably be a waste of time anyway!

Trust him and everyone else on this board that there is no 5th Gate in the works. There are no major construction sites currently on property (other than the projects we already know about) and because of that if they were to announce something tomorrow that would mean it would still be at least 5 years down the road (since for instance FLE has a construction timeline of 3 years).

Getting back to the original topic, I doubt that we'll hear much about future theme park projects at D23. From the description, it just sounds like they are going to review those projects already in development. Also, I politely disagree with Lee on the subject of the 5th park. I was just pointing out that a discussion of it shouldn't be ridiculed, because very few people actually know about what they're planning.:)

On the contrary, I know for sure that there is no current work being done on a 5th park.
Closest they cane was "Night Kingdom/Shangri La" a couple years ago. That fizzled, and nothing has taken it's place.

That wasn't real, it was a media driven story created by Jay Rasulo and Jim Hill.

The Backlot Tour hate is legitimate. Backlot Tour actually doesn't even fit the theme of DHS in years since nothing has been filmed there in years. If you went to went what is now DHS back in the 1990's like I was, The Backlot Tour was a much better ride.

Since the 1990's ended, Backlot tour was shortened. It was caused by some of the Backlot tour actually turned into attractions and also a stunt stage show matter of fact. To my understanding you even can't do stuff at Backlot Tour that you could 3 to 5 years ago even besides being a very outdated attraction.

Backlot Tour wouldn't have been the first attraction that I would have looked for replacing though despite not being a fan of the current version. Backlot tour in terms of being replaced only should be after or during the same time LMA is being get ride of for building new attraction with rides.

Sounds Dangerously should be higher on list since it only opens when an attraction is being refurbished it seems. Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular would be 2nd the list since that show hasn't changed since the theme park opened. It so old that the people that first saw it from 1989 to 1992 timeline as kids or teens are now old enough to be parents and take their kids to the same attraction without any changes.

Ahh, and here we have come to the big problem with this board and it's infernal use of abbreviations. I thought you were referring to Bay Lake Tower.

Nevermind...

I'm with you on everything but replacing BLT. What's the deal there? Why replace? In my mind replacing is a weak option when we can add. Yes I'd like to see a better ride in place of SGE, but I'd rather them just add something new in an area that has nothing currently. So why the BLT hate?

Personally, its not that I hate BLT, its just a sham of its former self. If there was a way to bring back most of what they got rid of like the TV houses, then I would be all for restoring it or plusing it, but at this point they just keep widdeling it down to nothing. I would rather see an amazing new attraction there then try to save a sinking ship

After all these years and big announcements we've all waited months to hear only turn into "We're starting a new marketing campaign!" I don't expect anything to come out of any meets/conventions what have you.

Besides, 95% of the time even on the rare occasion there is an actual announcement, we here know more details than they announce already, usually weeks/months before. ;)

I think at this point I am going to just expect some new pins, vinylmation, and Duffy merch and be plesantly suprised with anything that they actually announce.

The Epcot Manifesto
its the Year of "We Ain't Doing..."

just saying..

It's not that I don't think they probably wont announce something, I just remember how much I wanted them to announce at that recent press conference when they got Tom Bergeron to announce a slideshow on the castle (which IMO turned out better than expeceted, but still) and a new marketing campaign.
I dont want to get my hopes up again, therefore I'm trying not to hope for anything so I can be happy with whatever we get.

Thirded, but over anything really pleaseee do something with Imagination.

Agreed! I was more than a 'bit' upset over the current Journey into Imagination this last trip. Of course, the last time I had ridden was summer '96! Seems like there's ALOT of dead space.

I hope they at least acknowledge the fact that AK & HS need some attention!

I am really hoping that they don't announce any more meet and greets. I know they are cheap people eater, but if they are trying to get more of the teen/ 20's market this is not the way to go. Look at the WWOHP at Universal, you don't meet the characters, you have an experience with them during a dark ride. I think this is they way Disney need to go if they are willing to spend the money.

Dark rides can be enjoyed by both children and adults. I am thinking of TLM or the new mine train ride.

It seems that even Mickey/Minnie and the Princesses new meet and greet area is not overwhelmingly popular.

Just my 2 cents...

Man I have my fingers crossed for a Animal Kingdom expansion.

Agreed, this is definitely what is needed over anything right now! I can go to MK, Epcot or DHS in the morning, come back to my resort and rest for awhile and return to that park later in the evening to do what I missed. With AK, this isn't even possible. There just isn't enough to not get it all finished in one trip to the park. I would be extremely happy with an expansion of the park that included 1 or 2 indoor attractions, a new animal exhibit, a shop and a place to eat. And if they want to really push me over the top, do something with that train they have! Its so different and interesting but it needs to take you somewhere more exciting than Rafikis Planet Watch and have more interesting stuff to see while your on it. Cover the behind the scenes buildings with fake rock and foliage and show me animal exhibits while Im on it.
