Should we expect any major announcements regarding WDW at D23 expo next month?

One D-ticket ride at best (Mermaid), a clone of a spinny ride (Dumbo), and all the rest were either restaurants, or meet & greet's. That was the original FLE announcement that the crowd went bonkers over. It wasn't until after WWHP's successful opening that Disney decided to re-kindle the expansion & add the Seven Dwarfs Mine Coaster, and tone down the meet & greet factor a bit.

Yet that crowd acted as if a 5th gate had been announced, with a magnitude of E-ticket state-of-the-art attractions. It was like they were captivated by the pretty concept artwork appearing on screen, but not really paying attention to what the announcer was actually saying (or not saying).

That sends a message to the Disney higher-up's that we don't need new E-tickets or new parks to keep our wallets from closing or excitement from fading...but rather dining & meet & greets. So when the future of the parks looks mediocre...don't blame mgmt. Blame the fans for tolerating / welcoming laziness.

I still don't see anything remotely close to FLE happening since Animal kingdom. I'd love for you to name them.

Also WWOHP is not much more than two decade old roller costers one brand new E ticket ride and a bunch of meet and greets .

Don't get me wrong , WWOHP is the first time I said wow universal out did Disney in terms of themeing , the experiance of the line for the castle was just amazing . But in terms of what they actually added it wasn't very much of substance and it shows Disney that you don't need to do much to make people happy except steady progress.

Thing is, though, people keep dismissing stuff as "M&G" like this is some new temporary stand they are setting up wherever they can shoehorn one in. This is far, far different.

What was probably exciting to them is the same thing exciting to me - our Fantasyland is going from a place you walk through, the worst themed area of the park, just to do the rides and go elsewhere, to a destination. These aren't flimsy little outdoor M&G's, but actual places for these characters to "live" instead of putting glamorous princesses in the back of a circus tent. These are going to be highly themed areas that even someone who isn't going to "M&G" very often will still check out. It's not like they are repurposing some little corner of a land or sticking a M&G someplace that people were never meant to be standing in line (like a major artery they block in several areas of the park).

There is far more to FLE than what some times it gets boiled down to - not only are we getting 2 more dark rides (well, 1 semi-dark), doubling the capacity of the slowest-loading most-popular ride, adding new places to eat (desperately needed in that area of the park), and it's all going to be crazy-well-themed.

FLE is going to take us from last place to first when it comes to the MK-style park Fantasylands. While I'm sure some at D23 would scream and shout in happiness at anything, FLE is far more than the sum of the actual added attractions with ride mechanisms - and the bonus is, we get those, too!

So, what you're saying is you don't like meet and greets? Got it.

From what Lee is saying it seems they are going to just show stuff they have been working on, but hasn't been greenlit yet.

Either way, works for me. I'm curious to see what WDI has been spinning up. AK needs something. I can't stress that enough. I feel as though Epcot and HS are going to soak up these announcements though. Heres to wishful thinking

I'm expecting more detailed plans of Shanghai to be revealed, but who knows...

Yes, this as well. Can't wait to see what's in store for SDL, but I can guarantee it'll be jaw-dropping. Curious to see how their lands/attractions fill out. Never thought I'd want to travel that far east, but SDL sealed that deal for me

Yes.
There will be announcements aplenty.

That's not to say that all of that which is announced will ever be built....

Disney has been pretty good about going through with something after announcing it this past decade. I know back in the 80s Disney made a lot of promises that never saw the light of day but that is why they stoped doing preview centers and have made fewer announcements.

The only really big change that was made after announcement was girly version of Fantasyland but that was changed because it was universally paned. I can't think of a single thing other than that that was announced in the 2000s that Disney didnt go through with.

Excitement tempered with skepticism would be the way to go.

The big announcement will be the sale of the parks division.
Sorry I had to.

I hope you were only joking.

"Excitement tempered with skepticism" because even though WDW actually does have plans waiting in the wings, the P&R division really is being shopped around.

IMO, they want additional investors. I don't think they're actually planning to sell them outright. But that's based on my personal opinion, not any facts. The fact is, they've been showing the parks to interested parties.

We mentioned this on our show - Personally I'd much rather see ride throughs of Radiator Springs Racers and the Seven Dwarf's Mine Train instead of Shanghai announcements. Most of the people at the D23 Expo will never be visiting the overseas parks.

I think everyone attending the D23 Expo should hold up a Yeti plush doll during the "What's Next, What's New" segment. :sohappy:

They'd just be excited so many people bought plushes. Might even open a yeti meet and greet to sell more.

I hope Epcot's Future World and Animal Kingdom get some attention. My most wanted fix up is Imagination, give it the love it deserves (and i'd love to have Tony Baxter brought back in to do it, he apparently is not a fan of the new incarnation). I'd probably also sing praises if it were announced that Dino Rama were being demolished in favor of an actual GOOD ride (or just the addition of a good ride period).

Well there is a lot happening at Shanghai that directly affects WDW.
