I thought Everest killed any ideas of Matterhorn going to Florida.
Agreed.
TSM is nice and all, but I'd love to know how many of those people that do wait 180 minutes would say "OMG THAT WAS SO WORTH IT!" after the ride.
Harry Potter, it ain't.
It's a really lazy ride design, it's all video screens, and as pointed out above you can play the same exact game at home all day if you want. No, you aren't traveling on a track while playing it, but the only "ride" portion is to shuttle you between giant TV's. Could have walked through and gotten the same effect...it's quite simply the least technically stunning major attraction they have added in quite some time.
Let's home SDMT is nothing like it.
Who the heck said its like Harry Potter??

Scuttle, I don't think there were ever any real plans on doing anything resembling the Matterhorn at MK. Some random people have said they wish to see it but nothing actually in the rumor mill.
A design that the owner of that website admits he created. Fan ideas are not official ideas.http://www.imagineeringdisney.com/blog/2010/7/25/matterhorn-for-magic-kingdom-fantasyland.html
I know its imagineeringdisney.com and not the most legit website , but at the least its interesting
I think he was referring to it from a technological standpoint, and even I'll agree. The ride is just an upgraded Buzz Lightyear concept, but the laziness is apparent in that while Buzz at least has physical sets that you interact with, TSM is just a bunch of flat screens that you shoot at. Buzz, at least, requires some ability to aim in order to get a decent score (and knowing where the high point targets are). I don't even try at TSM. I just blindly fire all over the screen and inevitably end up with a high score.
I thought it was worth it the first time I was in that line for more than two hours, but the amount of stuff to look at helped.I still stick by my original statement - I'd really like to know, of the people who wait 180 minutes to ride it, if polled at the exit how many of them would say spending a couple minutes looking at video screens was worth it.
Thanks. And yes, that was my point, LOL.
I get people like it. I get families and kids like it. I think it's just fine. I'm glad it's there.
However, it's probably one of the least inventive and interesting rides at Disney, unless you count things like Aladdin's carpets. There is nothing innovative, fascinating, or interesting about it.

I like TSM. I get that its not terribly creative, though I like the fact that they can update each game based on the season, etc.
Is it weird that one of my favorite parts of that ride is the queue? And honestly, we have plenty of time to get to know it while we wait, so its no surprise.
Honestly, I only like TSMM for the queue... And the ride system. The way the cars twirl around and spin around corners turns me into a giggling, happily shrieking mess each time I ride, sufficiently embarrassing whoever is riding with me. I can't help it. I can have fun on TSMM without even laying a finger on the shooter gun. The games mean nothing to me, and it gets painful to keep pulling that string after a while.
I have tons and tons and tons of fun on MM. I love the stuff to see in the queue, I love the way it whips me around. I love playing the games, and I love stepping out and laughing my butt off with my friends and comparing our scores.
The only thign I don't like is how early I have to get a Fastpass or how long I have to stand in line. That's it. It's a good ride, and "it's just video games" seems like a weird argument to me because video games are awesome. It's popular for a reason. I just don't want to stand in that line to do it.

I get that. The wait would be justified if TSM was about 10 minutes longer. I don't really understand why it takes so long to move people through a 2 minute ride.
I agree, it's a really fun ride - and I try to ride it twice on every trip to DHS
Part of the problem is that when you're in the ride you're not constantly moving - it also appears that the way the ride is designed, the length of time you have at each location+transfer time to the next location is approximately equal to load/unload time. This means that there is no one thing that can slow the ride down, it means that if something happens in any of the locations the ride is going to be held up.
A larger vehicle capacity or another track would really be the only way to accomodate more guests.

Until a Monsters Inc coaster opens up in Pixar Place, it seems the lines will continue to be as long as they are.
