Based on reviews, I am thinking about changing our reservation from the Sci-Fi to the 50's PTime. Which do you prefer?

On a side note, do the movie clips at Sci-Fi have a "scare factor"? Two of the kids are afraid of "monsters" ... won't go on EE because of the Yeti or HM because of the ghosts. (The kids are too old for the Playhouse Disney eat-and-meet).

Thanks!

Our kids weren't afraid by the movie clips at the Sci-fi and they're usually scared of everything!
We did prefer the 50s Prime Time over the Sci-Fi, food and service seemed better at 50s.
We did like the Drive in atmoshpere at Sci-Fi, if we do ever go back there it will be just for ice cream or something like that.

My family prefers Sci-fi it's fun to sit in a car and eat. DS who is afraid of some things laughed at some of the clips because they were silly. You may want to make sure that if you have shy people in your group, 50's is absolutley NOT the place to be. On a side note we prefer both places for lunch over dinner.

We have been to both and while we like both of them, we prefer 50's Prime Time Cafe because the food is much better. It's a LOT of fun too! :animwink:

My vote's for 50's Prime Time, so much fun! I find that there's far too little interaction at Sci-Fi with my family when I go. Most of the tables are set up like cars (which is actually really cool), except there's an actual front seat/back seat, so you'll end up looking at the back of your kids' heads, and everyone just stares at the drive-in screen anyway. Plus it's dark, almost a little too dark to enjoy dining. The food's pretty equal in both places in my opinion, nothing too fantastic, but the theming of both make for a great experience nonetheless.

50s is more fun and the food is better, but the clips won't scare many people. I'd say Disney wouldn't intentionally scare anyone, but anyone who ever saw most of the Disney classics as a kid - evil queens trying to kill dwarves or turning into dragons - knows that's a load of horse hockey.

If you can only do one, I would pick prime time. The food is better, last time we were there, the waitress made my husband stand in the corner for having a sassy mouth! The kids LOVED it, daddy got in trouble! I would do sci-fi on another trip, it is fun also... but we prefer prime time.
Have fun!

I have eaten at both places several times and I can see where a younger child with a predisposed fear of monsters might get scared with some of the film clips shown. However, they are very much hokey when judged by today's horror movie standards. One of the clips is a Tom and Jerry cartoon and others involve old newsreels. The 50's Prime Time Cafe truly does serve better food, but I have occasionally been assigned a server that was clearly not in the mood for a show. That hasn't happened often, but when it did the meal was a bit if a let down. I'm partial to the drive-in movie ambiance of the Sci-Fi Diner and would suggest that you prepare your kids before they attend.

I have done both, and while the food is probably better at the PrimeTime, and maybe the service too, I think the Sci-Fi has a little more charm. Also, I kinda felt like the 50s Primetime was a little cramped with tables....

I voted to Sci-Fi, thinking more of the kids. I don't think you'll go wrong with either. I think of Sci-Fi as more of lunch fare, and although the burger is not on the dinner menu, you can order it. 50's Prime Time experience can be great, but depending on the age of the kids, they may not understand all of it. Some of the servers don't get into character also diminishing the experience. While you will appreciate the "50's" decor...it will probably be lost on them.

We usually do Sci Fi for a late lunch on one day and 50's as a dinner on another.

The food at 50's is so much better it's hard to even compare. I like Sci-Fi, but I would never pass up 50's for it. Theme wise, they both are nice, but the food difference is huge.

I asked my 10 year old son, who has been to both restaurants within the last two years. He loved both, but preferred Sci Fi because it was cool to eat in the cars and watch the silly movie clips.

As for the adults, the preference is definitely 50's Prime Time. The decor, the CM interaction, and the food is better. However, even the adults enjoyed Sci Fi, because the atmosphere and movie clips are so much fun.

One for lunch and the other for dinner?

Here is a Youtube video of the movie clips at Sci-Fi. Take a gander and judge for yourself if you kids will be scared of it.

Much thanks ... not so bad after all.

Most of the tables are set up like cars (which is actually really cool), except there's an actual front seat/back seat, so you'll end up looking at the back of your kids' heads, and everyone just stares at the drive-in screen anyway.

Question about the seating ... how many can sit in a car seat/row? There are five of us, so if one has to sit by themselves, it won't be as fun.

The kids are 7, 7, and 6. I'm pretty sure they'd have a ball if us moms got scolded. I was looking forward to the ribs for lunch, but then I saw the stuffed pepper on the PT menu

One for lunch and the other for dinner?

Unfortunately, it's going to be one or the other based on our intinerary. There's not much at DHS for the ages of our kids, so we are planning only a day there, and perhaps a sidetrip during an evening EMH for the Osborne Lights.

If any of the adults are picky eaters, I would go with Sci-Fi. You can at least get a burger there. I am a picky eater and was not able to find a single entree that I would eat at 50's. The only thing that sounded edible was the fried chicken. But, then I found out that it was southern fried:hurl:not tavern fried. Yes I am from the midwest. Can't find good fried chicken any where else.

Another vote for Prime Time. The kids seem old enough to get the jokes at Prime Time so they will enjoy it. I also think the food is a lot better.

I voted for 50's Prime Time. I wasn't overly impressed with the food at either but he 50's Prime Time is more of an experience where as Sci-Fi is an unusual restaurant.

If you do switch then make sure you eat all your vegetables of your suffer the same embarassment that I did!

I do think 50's PT has better food overall. But it can be kind of crowded. I'm not sure kids really care all that much about the quality of the food. My seven year old grandson loves Sci-Fi. He thinks it's pretty cool. It seems most kids have televisions on throughout their houses, so that's not really a big deal. But most kids have never been to a "drive-in" theatre. It's certainly different at Sci-Fi and it's something they've never experienced before. Isn't that what Disney's all about?

Some of the "cars" seat six. They also have a few picnic style tables. It is all very well themed and whimsical.

It's only two per row and there are 3 rows. One would have to sit by themselves, but the rows are very close together, so talking is possible.
