Say.... What if Avatarland got cancelled?

Sorry, I just do not believe it until we have it confirmed by Disney or someone with a track record like Steve or Raven or Martin.

There's my cue!

Avatar will largely be an indoors section of the park (and it isn't going where everyone THINKS it's going). :animwink:

Animal Kingdom is getting some major love in the next several years to help convert it into a full-day park (including night).

Can you spill where it is going? Understood, though, if it's still under wraps......

Why does everyone expect concept art now? The land isn't expected to break ground until next year. They still have a lot of design work to do. They probably don't want to show you art until everything(every little thing) is locked down. They don't want another Fantasyland situation where first art was released and then things changed.

The design process is very boring to be honest. It's just drawing after drawing. Test after test. I've been through this process(with other parks) before. It all starts out exciting, but it gets so boring to see similar drawings over and over again.

To put this all into perspective for you guys, many of the major rides in the industry take about two years to design. Some have taken as many as 5 years. So it's not surprising to me that we haven't seen any concept art.

BTW, he is a video of Cameron on creating the Avatar game. It's a different situation, but it does reflect how he collaborates.

No disagreement whatsoever.

And having been involved in numerous design/development collaborations throughout my professional career, I know how rocky these sorts of things can get. I also know how some folks ratchet up the drama based on their personal biases when discussing the process with outsiders.

We'll see how this all plays out.

So it's not going in the old BK spot behind rainforest cafe? Interesting if that's the case.

If it's inside, any noise from a thrill ride would have no impact on animals, so this could go to the large plot b/t Asia and Kilimanjaro Safaris (and draw people back through the park similar to Wizarding World of Harry Potter; also, it would be easier to hide an enormous show building back there than at the front of the park). It makes much more sense hearing that it's going to be indoors--Cameron said it'd be 12 acres. That's about twice the size of Everest. I was struggling to imagine an outdoor land at 12 acres but a nearly 12-acre building packed with attractions makes more sense.

Curious about these long-overdue plans for nighttime entertainment.

Boy isn't that truth. I once worked on a coaster that was getting ready to open. We had a slight delay in the electronic components and computer systems. It was a two day delay. Everyone knew it was a minor problem and I'd get the system up and running very quickly. But I find out that our fans are in a panic cause a "insider" said there was a major problem with the ride system. I watched their board explode with people going, I knew this was a bad idea, this isn't going to be ready for opening day. Four days later the ride was testing and they all calmed down.

If it is going to be largely indoors, how big of a facility are we talking about?

Thanks for the news, raven. So, major love, huh? And that means...another lion or zebra or something? Or maybe something to get excited about, like maybe Dragon Tower or Quest of the Unicorn or Fantasia Gardens?

Glad Avatar is going to be enclosed. The idea of giant blue kitty cats roaming free all over AK gives me the willies. :p

Indoors also gives you much more control over establishing "floating mountains" and "gas giant planet" sky features.

I'm curious to know if there will be any outdoor elements at all to this or if it will be entirely in a huge building.

WDW1974, keep grinding that axe and pushing that agenda. If that doesn't work, try labeling people with uncomplimentary tags.

I'm putting my money on the raven. Sorry.

And yet, Disney has recent precedence in releasing solid concept art in staged media events five years before a major expansion opens.

The DCA Billion Dollar Extreme Makeover was announced in October, 2007, with construction not getting under way until 2009, and most elements not opening until 2011 and 2012.

Cars Land was part of that original announcement, and multiple Cars Land concept sketches were released back in October, 2007. Construction began nearly two years later in July, 2009, and it opens three years after that in June, 2012.

Well as crude as this is...(i don't have access to adobe from this station)...here's what apple's new 11.5 acre building would look like in Animal Kingdom. This building is roughly 500,000 sq. ft 12 acres would be 30-40k more...

Doesn't look like 12 acres would come even close to fitting in the BK area...Also being that raven said most would be indoors, that would help the noise factor in regards to the animals.

3 years does not seem like a realistic timespan to build a show building even half that size.

Wo-ho-HO!!!! Raven, you just made my morning! Many thanks! :sohappy:

Well, they are adding the zebra scene to the safaris... So we have that... More lions would ALWAYS be welcome especially since the one or two that are out are usually hiding on the rock and sleeping..

I hope all the love AK receives is worth it... I think AK is a great park now.. Hopefully Avatar and any other additions that come only make things that much better!!!

BTW, raven says largely indoors.. Am i the only one who had images of the indoors Ariel's Grotto (I believe in Disneyland paris???) pop into mind??

2016 is the projected date for Avatar. And "breaking ground" won't happen until around 2014.
