Say goodbye to the treehouses

I bet you will see the next DVC property built there snuggled in between SSR & OKW. This is the last piece of property on Vacation Club Way that is not occupied by DVC at least on the Village Lake side.

Wasn't the original plan to continue the SSR over this section of property?

Not suprised. When the announcement was made that more college program housing was being built, I thought they'd replace the villas. It's just not convenient or cost effective for the company to continue operating them.

I do remember hearing something to that effect, but the distance from the main building to the buildings in the current Treehouse area would be to far. They could honestly be better off building a bridge over the Sasagoula river between OKW the Treehouses and extending OKW if they did not want to build an entire new resort. The OKW main building is not far from the Sasagoula river.

Were these the treehouses that use to be availible to park guests but were closed because it was unfair for wheelchair guests because they couldnt stay in them?

Actually when I looked at it on MS live it looks like it would be easier to make it an extension of SSR as the tree house property is right across the golf green from SSR. It still would be quite a haul to the main building though.

i was always told that that land was protected & that they could not change it. who knows what that permit is really for though as far as changes to the land & buildings. maybe using same foundation. who knows

If the land were wetlands now, that just means that would limit what they could build NEW there. It wouldn't prevent them from getting rid of the old structures.

Basically you'd lose the grandfather that allows the buildings to be there now with tighter restrictions if you got rid of them and wanted something new.

Do we know for sure the treehouses are actually going away? I see on the permit that it refers to the Disney Tree House Rehab Project and approves the replacement of the existing treehouse units, but I don't see anything about an actual removal. Couldn't they just be rebuilding the treehouses after the hurricane damage they suffered in 2004 and to make them ADA compliant?

I'm not trying to be argumentative here. I'm just trying to get clarification on what's really going on. :)

Sad if they are going away, considering their historical value from the beginnings of WDW. I agree they can`t be left to stagnate, mind.

I wouldn't mind seeing some small, cozy DVC hotel here. Not an addition to the sprawling SSR or OKW. Maybe something similar is design to the Hilton Head DVC. Designed to blend in with the trees and canals (and no more than three floors),

How abut a cozy adults only resort? The property is really not big enough for a full fledged DVC or moderate resort. By comparison it roughly twice the size of the large lake at SSR.
