Yeah, but what were their costs? Were revenues being shared among the Island? The gross sales is a very small part of the business equation. What were their labor costs, facility fees, etc.? It isn't really uncommon to have lots of sales and still not be profitable (or profitable enough).

It still comes down to this: they thought they could make more money leasing the space to third parties than they could running the club operation themselves.

They were wrong.

Just wanted to chime in and say something (rant) about profit.

These are sad times we are living in as Disney fans when profit is the most important factor in deciding whether or not to close or keep open a club or attraction.

So what if a club like AC wasn't a huge money maker? How much do they make (directly) off of the Electrical Water Pagent? Off nightly fireworks? Off an afternoon parade or dance party or castle show?

None.
In fact the point can be made that, taken individually, they each cost more than they directly bring in.

In those cases profit isn't (and shouldn't be) the point. They are all individual and integral pieces of the Disney experience, where the whole is more important than it's parts. The highly-paid and over-educated consultants lost sight of that. Now the clubs are closed and those morons are, in many cases, no longer with the company.

It's been a lose-lose situation. Closing the clubs has cost Disney tremendously in the financial area (Some profit is far better than none...) and in the area of good will. Shame they won't acknowledge making a mistake and try to make good...

The Island is still there and it wouldn't take that much to give the public back what it has wanted for three years. We must continue to let Disney know that this issue will not go away until we can celebrate the night with the Funmeister once again and especially inside of 5189 Hill St.!

Ok, now that the performances are public, I can talk..


They will be performing these multiple times a day for the last couple weeks of the year, and thats it..

It's additionally 'emergency' entertainment, because the crowds at the parks are anticipated to be record high this christmas season.. As far as I know, there is no information regarding AC performances.. Basically, comedy warehouse skits worked without the clubs enviroment, AC performances don't so much..

Indy Stunt show in MGM. There are pics on twitter of Otis, Hathaway, Pamelia, the maid, Samantha, and Fletcher there as well. Rumor is some sort of cast member event going on.

Not really a "rumor"--it's a show/dinner for veteran cast members (10-year, 20-year, etc.). Confirmed by multiple sources, including CMs who are there.

So, here are the first pictures that have made their way to the "Save the Adventurers Club" Facbook Group of the Cast Member event that was held at the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular stage. From the looks of the pictures, they had a Holiday Broadcast, since Beulah Belle has the mistletoe stick and Emil is wearing his Santa hat. Boy, I hope this means that New Years Eve midnight announcement is truely Adventurous!

Supposedly they also did Comedy Warehouse at the Service Anniversary last night as well. Those pictures were great to see, and brought back a lot of memories.

I had admittedly given up all hope on PI and CW and AdvClub (or any form of it), but this is a whole lot of "adventurous comedy" out of nowhere. First the announcement of CW shows Christmas week at Studios, and now this surprise. Is it possible they are testing the waters? Just seems incredibly weird.

I doubt they would be testing the waters at a CM exclusive event, other than seeing if the cast still had it. I find it hard to believe it was hard for these folks to slip back into character, especially when you consider the actors they got back were pretty much the "cream of the crop" when it can to AC cast.

This is an absolutely incredible situation with Disney assembling the cast to put this and the CW events on. There seems to be hope. The water does not need to be tested; everyone knows how huge this would be if they'd reopen on Pleasure Island. As 71 posted elsewhere, the buzz that Disney could get from reopening some of the PI clubs would be as great as the buzz Universal is getting with the Harry Potter expansion, at a tiny fraction of the cost. The good will would be tremendous as well.

The news lately is that major stockholders are pressuring Disney to quit making major capital investments in the parks. This only makes a revived PI make more sense. It would cost tens of thousands, at most, not tens of millions, yet would bring headlines, tons of free PR, and a lot of good will among guests (including locals). Re-opening PI is about the only thing I can think of that will rival the Potter Land expansion for buzz, but it can be done for a fraction of the price. (And will pay for itself within months.)

BTW, just to fan the fires, also on FB, from an attendee last night:

"Three years of dust" !! Did anyone else there catch what one of the cast said about it not closed for long??

Really hope video pops up online this weekend.
