The INNOVIA 200 is not just Mark VI compatible, it pretty much is the Mark VI. The efficiencies Las Vegas has over Walt Disney World are automation, interior design and level entry. All of those can be done without new trains.

And the Las Vegas monorail is the paradigm of success.

Unfortunately since the accident they no longer park them nose to nose. On cold nights they just keep the unstorable trains running on the beam all night. If they don't its a good chance they wouldn't start again in the morning.

Question: From what I understand, and I may be way off; there are 12 monorails total, and 10 slots in the "Shop" so only two monorails have to be out at night, couldn't one monorail be parked on each beam inside the contemporary? It looks like there would be room for the pilot to exit the monorail on the express beam even though it is not an actual station for the express beam. I am not arguing, I am just curious.

Between the paint shop & all the maintenance scows I don't think all ten bays are usable.

As far as express in the Contemporary, both sides are stations. There is a procedure to board resort guests there during peak crowds - both on the north & south concourse. I've done it ;)

No worries, its a good question and makes sense.

Pretty much nailed it on the head. The paint shop takes one stall, not to mention the tractors that are stored there. Normally at least 3 trains are left out, sometimes more.

Some info posted on another board with regard to the parking of four trains, nose to nose inside the Contemporary:

"To park two trains nose to nose, required some extra safety precautions. Since two trains usually never come within 700 feet of each other, lots of eyes needed to be on the process.

First a manager had to be present. Two cast members had to be on the platform, one with their hand on the emergency stop on the console (which would kill power on the track) and one with a finger on the button on a hand held kill pack (which would kill power by remote control on a specific track within the station). Once a train was in place inside the station and the other "staged" out on the beam, the manager took "control" over from Central via radio.

From the time Central relinquished control to Monorail 2 (call sign of the Manager on Duty), the drivers only obeyed instructions from that manager.

Monorail 2 would instruct the approaching train to enter the station on MaPo Override, pass through the air doors at walking speed (1-3 mph), and then to slow down even more the closer they approached the stationary train.

The driver of the stationary train would be sitting in the end facing the approaching train, with the train in "Run" and "Reverse", with the air dumped from the brakes. If the approaching train's driver "lost it" and tried to bump the other train, two people would kill power, emergency stopping both trains. Monorail 2 would also call for power to be killed by Shop. Failing all of the above, the driver of the stationary train would push his Master Control Unit to Propulsion 5 and haul a** away from the other train in reverse. No way could the other train catch him even if the other driver wanted to.

The theory in putting four trains inside the Contemporary during a hurricane is that "just in case" shop gets leveled or a switch disabled by the storm, four trains are out on the system to handle a little of the load while the backstage stuff is rebuilt."

Ops stuff like this always fascinates me...

So...

Late one night this vacation (12/20 to 1/4) my son and I saw an all black monorail passing through the TTC while we were transferring from the resort monorail to the EPCOT monorail.

Anyone have any idea what that is about?

Very cool! When was this taken? I've seen a nose to nose pic of monorails parked in the Contemporary but I've never witnessed it in person or ever saw the doors closed.

Odd question and perhaps my eyes are playing tricks on me but does it appear that the gold monorail is sitting slightly higher then the silver? Are some trains different heights or is the one have a load on it? Just curiosity is peaking me tonight.

I think Monorail Silver may be a Mark IV.

My first guess was a wrap, but none of the monorail's are currently wrapped or away for wrapping as far as I am aware of now. The only other thing I could think of is bad lighting. Other then that you might be on to something.
