Rumor-Spectro probably isn't coming back

How does the $2.6M estimate for repairing Spectro compare to a new parade?

Sadly, I think we all know what's coming here. There's not going to be a nighttime parade at the MK in a couple of years. We might see a new 3:00 parade that is sometimes run in the early evening, but I think this signifies the beginning of the end of an era.

Pathetic.

I don't care what they do as long as they do it after our trip this year. Some of us can't go every year and STILL haven't gotten to see Disney World's current MSEP. Certain things they had two years ago will still be new to us >>
Nickle and diming is why they were even considering bringing back a 20+ year old parade. It's time to move on with something completely new.
Well, that and Nostalgia sells big

I wonder if they could get a better insurance settlement by letting them get eaten by termites??? There may be a method to their madness/stupidity.

Disgusting

In a) the incompetence that allowed it to happen and b) the miserly amount they won't spend to fix it.

How much did it cost to demo the Tomorrowland Theatre and pave it for a management parking lot again?

"Disgusting" is certainly the word. That beautiful parade, neglected and rotting away in some tent. It almost makes my physically ill...

To a certain extent a company the size of Disney self insures for property insurance claims. I'd hate to be the one who has to explain this claim to corporate risk mgmt

I wonder if TDO never intended Spectro to return and therefore did not care what happened to the floats? Maybe the original plan was to build a brand new parade or rebuild Spectro while MSEP was around, but then the budget never got approved, and while they have been waiting for the "green light" the floats they THOUGHT they would never want to use again have suffered to much damage not being cared for?

Hopefully we will have a new nighttime parade for the 50th...

No... MSEP was supposed to run for 4 months during
Summer nightastic! But was extended after.. Spector would have likely been fine with 4 months in a tent, but not nearly 3 years

The 4 month Summer time frame was a joke. We all knew when MSEP came back, after being recently updated by DCA, that TDO would not want to let it go.

I think a new daytime parade and the replacement of Wishes will happen waay before a new nighttime parade. That is if we ever see a light parade again at MK after MSEP...

This is a rumor-

It looks like Spectro won't be coming back this Spring. The floats need a lot of work and Disney doesn't want to put the money into it when possibly they could put it towards a new parade. I've heard the floats will be dismantled but that some of them could be used for another project.
Spectro is great! I am so sick of MSEP! I think a new parade would be great, but I would like to see Spectro to come back and with Roger Rabbit insted of the Genie

The Main Street Electric Parade was new decades ago.

For some of us, though, it will be new. I've been to WDW well over 200 times, and never once saw it. Most of my 200 trips was when Spectro was still going on. It was a good parade, but I really don't need to see it again. I've seen MSEP on youtube, and in my opinion, it blows Spectro away. I'm making a trip in April just to see MSEP.

So? If there were never any changes the parks would be even more depressing and stale. There is nothing Magical about just doing the same thing over and over again. So you didn't see the parade, well if Walt Disney World was being run properly there would be a better, new parade to see.

I agree with you, but all I'm saying is that something you discount as being old, or past it's prime, may still be new to someone else. I'm all for WDW developing new and better things. But, with stockholders to please with dividend checks, that will never happen. How long have they been doing the current version of Illuminations, or Fantasmic? I don't see people demanding a new Illuminations or Fantasmic.

I have a feeling they are going to do away with all light parades, msep will be next, the tired old pathetic excuess of an afternoon parade will go away, and they will just use the move it shake it thing throughout the day as the standard daily all day parade. The days of big grand floats, light parades are probably coming to an end. And it makes me mad too. It sounds like they have no intention on developing or spending for a new light parade. So sad.
Charge customers more, give them less. I hope all of the above is totally wrong, its just thats the direction I feel they are heading.

I think you're right, and I think there may be something a little more sinister going on here. (Please put on your tin hat.) TDO seems to be bent on wringing every last penny out of guests before they leave the park, rather than improving or creating attractions that would add attendance. The parades easily take most of the guests out of circulation for at least 90 minutes, then most leave the park right after the fireworks. This means they're not buying stuff in the shops or snacking at the quick service locations for 2+ hours per day. Now add in the labor cost of running the parades, and you get an idea of the true cost to Disney for doing so. Someone probably figured out that they could gain another $5-$10 per guest, per day by phasing out the evening parade. This would also explain why any night time entertainment has been slow to evolve at DAK. That adds up fast.
