Rumor-Spectro probably isn't coming back

Agree with so many others on here at how disgusting it is that they let it get this way. I've only ever been to WDW twice, but Spectro is one of my best memories from my visits.

I really hope, like many of you, that they bring out a new parade with the same/reimagine music.

Disgusting

In a) the incompetence that allowed it to happen and b) the miserly amount they won't spend to fix it.

How much did it cost to demo the Tomorrowland Theatre and pave it for a management parking lot again?

However SpectroMagic was past its prime same for MSEP - I would prefer them to create a new night time parade - no actually I would like them to create 3 night time parade...

I'm afraid I am the confirmer of bad news..

Spectro has seen it's last show.. The damage to the floats is EXTENSIVE.. Termites, woodrot, electrical issue, etc.. All related to the hap-hazard storage that the parade was subjected to.

The price tag to rebuilt/replace most EVERYTHING is approx. 2.6 million.. Management has passed, and it's likely that MSEP will have to roll for some time until a new show can be developed and brought on line..

I'm not happy, and I'm not happy to bring this news to you guys...

I can't believe my last viewing of Spectro was.... my last.

:(

Maybe it was just the old "obsolete" technology excuse like LOW, but wait MSEP and the EWP use the same technology?

Termites? I don't think so. Spectro has termites but MSEP doesn't? Wood rot -yes , they spill battery acid all the time on the floats and they can eat thru the plywood and maybe it looks like termite damage but it is not.

But the real reason like a lot of things is due to Safety and Legal. They have been doing a lot of studies about parade floats and what happens if it jumps the curb and hits people or if it top heavy and falls during a turn, they didn't like the Chernabog float because his wings opened, and drivers driving the parade floats at night, etc.

I don't see how it wasn't a problem for 20 years but now it is a safety concern. But that is how it is now, Safety and Legal are running a lot of things behind the scenes now.

2.6 million is nothing for Disney. How much did they (over) spend on Radiator Springs Racers again?

It's no wonder they decided to bring out Scrooge this week in the MK. Apparently, he's always working backstage, swimming through his money piles.

From another insider... not just one person.

if it makes you feel any better my source on this is rock solid. and trust me, the news es me off more than you can imagine, so I don't want it to be true either.

For those that don't know (it has been asked), Spectro has been stored in a non-climate-controlled-tent across from central shops, next to the boat maintenance area for the last 2 years...

Not that I don't trust you, I just prefer to see some news like this backed up with a second confirmation... I know your news about Spectro has been spot on before...

No I understand you completely.. Honestly, if I were you I would want multiple sources on this with concrete information.. Because it sucks that it's true.. just human nature I guess..

Sadly, I actually believe it because some of the decisions made by management baffles me... LOL.. thanks for the updates!

What's maddening about this is that we never really get an answer why.

This is what I wish the Disney Blog would say:

"It's time to retire SpectroMagic. While we understand that this parade is
beloved by many, it won't be coming back, for a few reasons. Firstly, we
do like to refresh our entertainment offerings from time to time. Secondly,
maintenance on the older parade elements is becoming overwhelming. At
some point, we decide to put our time, energy and budget into a new show,
rather than keeping up with the old. We look forward to creating a new
parade and hope that it will become as beloved as our legacy nighttime offerings
have been."

Or something like that. Just a bit of the reasoning.

For all Disney's social media efforts, they are always silent, it seems, when it would
mean the most to hear something from them.

Thanks to the insiders here for at least keeping us in the know.

I have a feeling they are going to do away with all light parades, msep will be next, the tired old pathetic excuess of an afternoon parade will go away, and they will just use the move it shake it thing throughout the day as the standard daily all day parade. The days of big grand floats, light parades are probably coming to an end. And it makes me mad too. It sounds like they have no intention on developing or spending for a new light parade. So sad.
Charge customers more, give them less. I hope all of the above is totally wrong, its just thats the direction I feel they are heading.

First off, I'm sure you can tell by my signature that I never liked SpectroMagic as much as MSEP, and part of me is thrilled that I'll have more opportunities to see MSEP on my next trip, despite MSEP's problems.

However, there is absolutely no rhyme or reason that SpectroMagic should be in the position it is in now (dead). I guess I am wondering how a company like Disney can let such a monumental thing like an electric parade fall completely to pieces. As evidenced by this thread, Spectro has a legion of loyal fans within the WDW community, and it just blows me away that it's been sitting backstage, falling apart since 2010. Why would this happen? Have the execs at WDW really gotten so out of touch that something as cool as SpectroMagic has been left to COMPLETELY fall apart??? I really cannot fathom this. This is almost as bad as letting 20,000 Leagues sit there and rot away..actually, I think this is worse, because MSEP was never supposed to stay permanently. So why wouldn't they do everything in their power to keep SpectroMagic in good condition? I guess this is the kind of BS we've come to expect from this generation of leaders at WDW...between Splash Mountain falling apart, the terrible day-time parades, awful quality control and generic merchandise, ruining classic attractions, jamming terrible eyesores where they don't belong...maybe I just keep thinking that someone will stop the madness before WDW and MK are no longer great. I am worried that in 20 years, MK won't be great anymore! This company continues to make questionable decisions and decline by degrees. What's next, are they going to run MSEP into the ground too, then say oh well, no more electric parades?? You bet. Are they going to let Space Mountain fall apart? Hell, it already is. I bet you we will see the Carousel of Progress shut down, left to rot, and then bulldozed. Mark my words. At the expense of sounding naïve...the corporate heads at WDW, and indeed at Disney in general, are COMPLETELY DONKEY-BRAINED.

End rant.

I would like to know how many times WDI or in this case Steve Davieson pitches the idea of a spectacular new parade at MK and gets rejected or laughed at by TDO/Burbank executives? Probably overexaggerating the laughing at part.

DEP was also stored like that at DCA until they built wharehouses for it (for most of it's run @ DCA,it was stored in 2 buildings

Okay Disney....I got an idea- no charge....If you cant get the parade to us-get us to the parade. I have great respect for tradition-in all forms- I dont scream for newer, faster, better, more..I say be good stewards of what you do have- Take that Limited Time Magic- scheme you got going- create a smoke and mirror value engineered meet and great for OLD Parade Units---Do it with great lighting music- and photo ops galore.....gosh you could even alternate some of that old Epcot parade too..so you wouldn't over use them. Gosh disney you may even already have a building that could be modified for that- HECK I would consider that an addition in the NEW fantasyland....whats another tent????( and then make it unlimited magic- and leave it threre!!!!!!! Though some of this is tongue in check- I would love the opportunity- in the right environment with show lighting- to have a meet and greet with some of this--as it wasnt rolling down main street and I would even enjoy the music piped in to make it real.....It could even have a timeline of history or back story boards...etc....come on disney--you got an imagination..
