Well I have been experimenting with DIVX capture.. I don't have it worked out too well yet, but anyway.. here's a video I took on my birthday last year at Magic Kingdom. It was also the first day of my honeymoon. It is what is referred to as "the kiss goodnight". You may need to download the

DIVX Codec and Playa Player

And have an MP3 audio codec installed to play it.

It is just a view of the castle with the goodnight Disney blessing audio. The video doesn't look that good, but I figure it didn't need to. :)

Looking at PopKid's WMV files, I am doing something wrong. I'll have to figure out how to make the WMV files. The DIVX files I can encode in real-time on my machine, but it sounds like alot of time-consuming chugging will have to take place to make the WMV files (but they look great).

Please let me know if anyone has trouble playing this or not. I'm going to mess around with DIVX until I get it right. :)

Oh yeah.. the link...

As I mentioned in my previous posts....DivX is a bit tricky...its going to take a few test renders with different settigns to get it looking right..if done correctly...it will be BETTER than WMV...

You do need the codec to play it..but not "the playa" since it is only a codec that installs iself into windows...so any AVI player (Such as windows media player) will have no problems playing it once the codec is installed....and you dont need an mp3 program to play the audio either...

I think Popkid uses Mediacleaner to compress his movies..which is a really nifty (but far from free) program that basically takes your video and with a bit of fiddling...makes a high quality/low size movie file in any format....

Oh..and side note:: Today (Time permitting and emotional issues aside..grr) I will see what I can do about starting to upload some of my mp3s for you guys to enjoy...bare with me please...56k is hell...and my frame of mind is somewhere else (will be for the next few days too)...

WMV acutally encodes very quickly. Its almost in realtime if you dont do any additional filtering on the source material.

In my opinion WMV 8 outperforms DIVX on a number of areas...

- WMV audio offers superior compression/quality over DIVX using an MP3 based codec.

- WMV allows progressive download, so you see the video start to play before the netire file is complete.

- I personally think WMV has superior image quality over DIVX, especially at low bit rates.

- WMV is officially supported in Operating Systems, so you know a WMV file can play on any PC.

- WMV files are more suited to the net, as they can play even if the end of the file is missing. Wheres as DIVX based AVIS will fail if part of the file is missing.

DIVX is fine for distribution on CDROMS, where AVIs are acceptable. But having said that, high bitrate WMV 8 looks pretty much identical to high bit rate MPEG 2

:)

:)

...Thats the big selling point especially for us on 56k...I mean...TECHNICALLY you can do it with a DivX as well but you would need "DivFix" which...i hate. WMV is the most "net friendly" one out there (thankfully its not mpeg anymore), andd DivX still has a long way to go before its size/quality issues are solved....

Now...dont get me started on quicktime ;)

I find uses for quicktime....they just arnt FREE...which is why it will never catch on ;)

I just got a new beta of that codec im testing...lossless quality (no kidding)...but the final is going to cost about 5000 just for the encoder...eww. (all the money I spend on programs now...i REALLY cant even consider this)

LOL yeah - the problem being, you may have the encoder - but you can count the number of people that have the decoder on one hand!! ;)

Yep..exactly...thats why Quicktime will never catch on ;)

Oh..and I am quite aware of Huffman..hehe....

Since for my digital animation work we usually have 2 options...either keep it all frame by frame (huge) or make a sorensen quicktime (still rather large)...a lot of my time is spent looking for a 3rd option...I still havnt found one thats "great"...soon tho ...its getting good ;)
