Replacing Downtown disney/pleasure island?

Oh, that's so much BULL SHUT. The clientele was controlled by Disney. The local's presence was a direct effect of managements decisions controlling the gate.

And as far as your comment on it hopefully becoming an "expansion of shopping and eating", good luck getting vendors in there now. (Like we really need more shops selling the same merchandise that every other shop carries. Or another mediocre restaurant selling the same overpriced DDP fare that you can get elsewhere.) Between the economy and the fact that it's now a wasteland, it's not a very attractive property for outside vendors. Never kill something before you have a definitive plan for it's replacement

That's the definition of bad management in my book.

Anytime Ive been to DTD there has been a HUGE thug population anging all around. It was REALLY bad on my last trip. Ive walked through and saw none, and at other times thats all I saw. It was all thugs, or NJ blowout haircut dorks.

Its all a moot point. P.I. is gone. It aint coming back. The A.C. isnt either.
A.C. actually wasnt too bad, it was the ONLY nice thing there, but the rest brought it down also.
Disney did the right thing by closing P.I.
Clearly, it didnt fit the image and a good decision was made to end it.

Please back up your assertions with some facts. It sounds like a personal opinion to me.

Closing PI is one thing (I have mixed feelings personally) but to let the empty buildings sit there and rot, and contribute absolutely nothing to revenue is a downright travesty. I would prefer a PI type area over another shopping and dining destination, but shopping and dining at least bring in money, unlike empty buildings.

All your opinion, with which I totally, passionately, and vehemently disagree.
Horrible move closing PI....just abysmal. Wrong on every level.
And that is what makes the world go round.....different strokes for different folks.
But again, thankfully Disney did the RIGHT thing, by closing P.I.

No, they did the completely WRONG thing by closing PI. Especially not having a solid plan for it's replacement.

Besides shops, and dining what else could go there?

Well, currently they can't even put shops and dining in there, so obviously they wouldn't be able to put anything else.

Also, anyone who thinks Disney should not have an adult entertainment complex on the property is completely closed minded.

I have a question to those who are talking about the "teen thug" problem at PI and say that because of it it's good they closed: Had you ever visited PI *before* they took out the turnstiles and opened the island up to all foot traffic?

That "thug" element was almost never seen on the Island beforehand, and it was a much more festive and fun place to visit and hang out as an adult. I (and others) trace the beginning of the decline of P.I. back to the removal of those turnstiles. It was done to try and boost attendance to the clubs, but it eventually had the total opposite effect. Once it was opened up, any mallrat teen could hang out by the clubs, perhaps talk a tourist into getting them a beer. But if you actually had to PAY to get onto the Island, it kept a lot of the riff-raff out.

I agree they should have adult entertainment there BIG TIME...but it should be for Disney Guests. Yeah you lose money, maybe...BUT Id go. When it was open I didnt go because I can go be around a bunch of scum bag thugs here, why would I want too while in Disney World of all places?

In all honesty, I spent almost every weekend at PI for 5 months, and saw none of these "thugs" people reference so much.

Second of all, PI could have easily fixed this so called "problem" if the gates were never taken down.

Yeah and I said my LAST trip. Before that I LOVED going to DTD...

But last trip they were EVERYWHERE. Not only at P.I. but in the Xmas store, WoD store...it was bananas. As I said in my last post it can be controlled. Only admit Disney Guests, and charge non Disney Guests to get into DTD....

In 06 I went and said to my GF at the time man this place is nice. Its like a clean Pittsburgh with no morons clubbing...

In 07 I said to my date, why is there like little thugs hanging around down here?

In 08 I said to my gf, wow these creeps are all over the place. ts gradually gotten worse by the year. I mean we honestly spent a good 20 minutes laughing at the blow out hair cuts, and Jheri Curls the cuban dudes had.

Well this statement is a bit offensive in itself IMO, but other than that, maybe it was a bad weekend. Because in all honesty I was a CP from January-May, and I didn't notice any of these "thugs".

Its not offensive because the dudes where sitting around with towels rubbing them on their foreheads, and combing thier hair, while s__________g on tooth picks. NOTHING is offensive about that...thats just scumbag at its finest.

Let me guess... All the cast members had GOATEES:shrug:?? Sounds like you were living in Star Trek opposite land, as I went there frequently and NEVER saw what you described...

Hey I have a goatee does that make me evil???? Of course I am not a cast member. So maybe I am not that Evil. The times I went to Pleasure Island I never noticed any real problems. I have seen far more issues going to my Local Downtown area. Of course I was concerned with having fun and not letting my surroundings get to me seeing that I was on vacation

Adventurers Club wasn't the "Only nice thing there" The cast members I encountered were nice as was the Comedy Warehouse, which seems to get no love. Personally I enjoyed Comedy Warehouse A lot more than the Adventurers Club.. Man I miss Schmperdoy

There may have been "Thugs" on the Island But there were far less in the clubs themselves (after the removal of the turnstiles). I think that was their first mistake that led to the downfall of Pleasure Island.
