Its not offensive because the dudes where sitting around with towels rubbing them on their foreheads, and combing thier hair, while s__________g on tooth picks. NOTHING is offensive about that...thats just scumbag at its finest.
What?!!!!!!

You are judging people based on their actions.."rubbing towels on their foreheads, combing their hair and s u c k ing on toothpicks" but how in the heck is that offensive?

Why are they scumbags because they do those things?

If I look up the definition of scumbag will I see that description?

Seriously!:brick:

I love how every time people talk about closing PI, the gang, thug talking starts.

I have never seen anything to make me think that PI was overrun by thug/scumbag types..though I really have no idea what that would look like..

:ROFLOL:

Thanks for the laugh!

The "thugs" are still around. They just hang out around Virgin and AMC more now with less room to spread out around DTD.

I don't agree with closing the clubs. I enjoyed what little time I spent there back when I visited, but it's not something I did very often.

I do not want Steve to be upset with me so I said it nicely..:D

These threads always turn into the same thing and people say they are not judging or stereo typing but then what else do you call it?

:hammer:

I literally almost got run over in the parking lot by a car stuffed with thugs doing at least 30 MPH. And that was the typical experience if you dared venture near DTD after 6:00 PM. I haven't been since the clubs closed so I don't know how it is now.

They really need to charge for parking at night to non-guests.

Hey I have a goatee does that make me evil???? Of course I am not a cast member. So maybe I am not that Evil. The times I went to Pleasure Island I never noticed any real problems. I have seen far more issues going to my Local Downtown area. Of course I was concerned with having fun and not letting my surroundings get to me seeing that I was on vacation

LOL... I have a goatee, too.. I was referring to the evil alternate universe, a la Star Trek, South Park, Sealab 2021, etc... All the 'alternates' have goatees for some reason...

I visited Pleasure Island countless times during my college program and subsequent trip and never once did I encounter any "gangs"...I feel left out!

Never once did I feel afraid in Pleasure Island. Security always seemed to have everything under control.

So here's my solution to the PI problem that appeases both sides (the "more shopping and dining" suits and the "we want someplace to go at night" crowd):

The "problem" that the suits had was that when they originally opened the West Side, there was a very long stretch between the Marketplace and the West Side. The only way to get from one side to the other was along the sidewalk between PI and the parking lot. Originally, you even had to stay on the sidewalk all the way to Planet Hollywood, until they built the little bypass bridge that went between PI and Planet Hollywood and under the original PI/West Side bridge. (This was removed when the new West End bridge opened)
They tried to alleviate the problem by opening the island up to foot traffic at all hours, not just pre-7PM, so that people would walk through and perhaps buy a ticket into the clubs. But by doing that, they introduced the family element to the island, which isn't what it was designed for.

So the solution is to give the Guest something to DO between the Marketplace and the West Side that doesn't involve the Island.

The solution is two-part:

First, carve into the parking lot between T-Rex and the PI bus stops. Create an attractive route from the Marketplace to the West Side with things to actually see and do along the way. Build stores, add a restaurant or two. Make the bean counters happy at all the extra revenue that's coming in.

Then, with a family-friendly route from one end of Downtown Disney to the other in place, put PI back the way it originally was. A gated island where you have to have admission. No more mallrats who're there only because it's free, no more Mom & Dad pushing little 4 year old Susie in her stroller who get all offended by the beer-drinking adults they see while walking through PI. Everyone's happy.

Obviously this would require a bit of planning and design work, but I think it's do-able. And I admit it would create additional parking issues, as it would cut into the already limited parking that's close to the Marketplace. This could be mitigated by working on the overall transportation to, from and within Downtown Disney. Add more water shuttles operating out on the lake. Perhaps even have some other sort of internal shuttle operating within DD. Make the vast, always-empty lots past Cirque a viable place to park.

Well, that's my idea...

Could work and well thought out.

I just think that they need to create a seperate area on property where you actually have to show ID to even drive into. A secluded area away from any mixed use areas. Fully themed and with a backstory equal to or better than PI. I think this would be so popular people would actually need reservations to get in. I think the entire DTD/PI concept really confused guests and that was part of the problem.

Actually I think I just described the Night Kingdom concept pretty much.

And its a pretty good freakin idea...When you are at WDW you feel "exclusive" everywhere you go. You need asmission, or a ticket to do almost anything...except go to DTD and thats where its out of control.

Im not saying some of you are lying when you say you never saw any "riff raff" Im just saying that I see it all the time now when Im there and its annoying.

The only bad crowds I have EVER seen at any of the Orlando parks are at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal. Never saw anything out of control at DTD or PI in all of the years I have been going there:shrug:.

If I'm not mistaken, this was actually a solution/plan at one point. Unfortunately, they saw it cheaper to just close PI. I think it would be more attractive to outside companies to be able to build/design their own facilities in DTD Central instead of retrofitting an existing nightclub.

I'm a bit ambivalent about PI. I went there several times but I was not all that sad to see it go. However I don't understand why they could not keep just one of the clubs and close the rest. I do think Adults need something to do at night without the kiddies and thats one of the reasons I did like PI. If I did go, I really enjoyed going to the Comedy club, getting a drink and going into the different clubs.

What I personally would like to see done with PI and DTD is something like California Adventures, Pleasure Peer. Have a roller coster, the ferris wheel, some other rides and boardwalk games. I know they have a few games over at the Boardwalk, but lets be honest not to many people use those over there. I think having them at DTD would be better, more foot traffic.

I'm not gonna post them again, twice in this thread is enough, but...wow...what is the deal with the guys in those pictures?!?
Horrible, just horrible. I need to know where they lurk, so that I may avoid them.

Actually knowing Disney, they'll just leave the building empty for a few years then either use it for conventions or build a playground on it.

Sounds about right :brick:

There's also been talks about moving ESPN Zone from the Boardwalk to DTD seems fitting due to the size of the building itself.

Id like to see this happen, it fits better in DTD then the BW

Id love to see them put in a theater that plays a Disney Broadway show, maybe bring Beauty and the Beast to DTD now that it is closed or bring the Aladdin show from DL.
