I heard a lot of people cancelled their arrangements at the Wedding Pavillion because of the cake. Anyone know anything about this?

Yes. It got so bad that Disney installed a stained glass window in the wedding pavilion so the hideous castle wouldn't be in the picture.

I liked the IDEA of the cake, but the execution was HORRIBLE. PINK??? The pictures make it look so much better than it was. Up close you could see that much of it was an inflatable draped on top, and sometimes bits were deflated. I talked to many CMs and they all hated it. Since they did it, I am glad I saw it. But at the time I was lucky enough to go once a year so I knew I'd see the castle properly again soon. But for anyone who was going every five years or so, a whopper of disappointment.

Sorry to admit that I too found it really cool. The boys were young then and thought it was AMAZING!!!! (we too like cake:) Love all the cool things they come up with, so sad to have miss the ice lights last Christmas, they looked really awesome!

I honestly thought that this was the most amazing celebration disney has done yet. I loved the Castle as a Cake. I still love to see pictures of it. One of the days that I was there it got so hot that one of the balloons on the top popped and you could see the original castle. To me this had to take a lot of effort and thinking. I mean, yes so did the giant arm and the giant hat and the gold work they added to castle. To me, none of that can compare to the Cake Castle:king:

I remember that day, I was only like 10 so I found it kind of disturbing. But I thought that celebration was so cool cause we went on my b-day and I was like O look a cake, no I didn't think it was for me, but I thought of it relatable! But the ballon popping was kind of distrubing for 10 yr old at least!

I was 5 at the time

That trip, I was five at the time and thought it was probably the coolest thing I had ever seen. I had been there previously and seeing that the castle was a cake was so cool. That winter in 1997 we went to Disneyland on our Rose Bowl Trip (Go Buckeyes). And seeing the Sleeping Beauty castle after seeing a giant cake, made me think that Disneyland was pathetic. But either way, I think through a child's eyes it is a very different experience than seeing it as an adult. I think that if I were my age at the time I would have thought it stupid. But looking back, it is extremely representative of the Disney Magic.

Looked sort of cartoonish, and I thought it was pretty cool, but I'm glad it's gone. I was never a fan of the pink castle or the Epcot wand either. Guess I'm a purist....

But nothing was as disappointing as when they toilet papered the castle for that one day when they opened the Stitch ride. :hurl:

I liked the cake just to see once but I never was crazy about it. good idea though. that was my daughters first trip( she was 5) to wdw so it kind of holds a special place in my heart, eventhough it's not my fav. I did like it a couple of years ago decked out in gold. that was cool. :sohappy::D

1997 was my first trip down to WDW, so I was not the Disney nut I am now. I prefer the "natural" castle, but since that was my first trip to Disney and first chance to see the castle, it kinda holds a special memory for me. And since I knew it would be returned back to the original, it did not bother me at all.

And like others have said, that was a fun parade. I still love to play the theme song on my Ipod. It brings back SO many memories.

As long as I knew it was eventually going away, I Liked the Castle Cake.
Would I want it to stay that way....?
Nooooooooo WaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaYYYYY!!

I agree with this! I also liked it b/c my mom thought it was awesome. She loved it and when I think of the cake castle, it makes me think of my mom. I even got the pin. :)

We were down there for our honeymoon for for the 25th anniversary, and we both said for our "25th" we'll be reknewing our vows down there as well...I can only imagine what celebration they'll think of then. for a 50th anniversary ..Do you think they could replicate the castle cake on a real one.....probably...for a small fortune..Anyway I think thats why the castle as hideous as it was to some...held a very sentimental place in my heart.....and boy I did love it!!!!

But I also loved the wand as welll!!!!!!!!

I had to vote yes due to the fact we got the 4 1/2 foot tall scale model in storage that was on display at the Orlando International Airport during that time. We eventually plan to put it on display when we eventually build our Disney room addition, that will also have all the other stuff we have gotten over the years from doing construction refurbs at the parks.
