Update on CenTOONial Park - the Disneyland app currently shows the area closed for refurbishment through October 22.

Looks like they are replacing the pavement that was damaged in last winter's rains, but leaving Walt's Dreaming Tree and the creepy trip hazards roots.

That seems like a mistake. They should rip out those roots and just forget about it and pretend it never happened.

The roots don't even make any sense. A tree with that trunk diameter would never have roots bigger than the trunk in the first place. Why couldn't they have just put in fake tree like they did to Winnie the Pooh at MK? Oh yeah, Disney is hurting for money.

On Main Street we get fake grass and in Toontown we get a dinky real tree with fake roots for something that was advertised to be a prominent piece of the land. The fake grass saves money. The fake tree doesn’t.

Its a tree in a made up land where cartoon characters live inside and walk around inside an amusement park.

Who said the root systems of a tree inside such a land had to make sense and follow the rules of the real world.....

Initially the real tree saves money. However, the fake tree doesn't take water and doesn't make roots that tear up the area. Look at all the money they are spending to fix their mistakes in that area now. It should have been a fake tree to start with. Right now the area just looks stupid. Why couldn't they just have moved Chip n' Dale's tree house there and closed up the door?

Trees don’t really need a lot of water. Especially mature trees. The fake tree would cost Disney what these days? 5 million? It’ll take a lot of saved money on water bills to get to that amount.

But yea it looks really dumb. By the far the worst part of the TT redo. Everything else is fine or better. To play devils advocate maybe they went real because it needed to be just like Walt’s dreaming tree? Who knows maybe in 25 years it’ll be the spitting image.

Well that is subjective, and I appreciate your opinion.
It is my opinion and the area looks stupid.
If you guys like cut rate Imagineering than that will work for you. IMHO, This is a downgrade compared to Chip n' Dale's treehouse or even the Winnie the Pooh queue tree which is what should have been there.

In fact, it should have been a flat ride with Goofy's house as the queue. Such a waste of space.

All I said was its a tree in a toon land, the root system doesn't have to make sense or match the real world.

Personally I thought they were going to put in a fake tree based on the concept art, I'm sure there is a post in this thread where I said the same.

And as I said in the post you quoted, I appreciate your opinion.

More information from the Orange County Register on ongoing work to address issues at Toontown.

"Work in Mickey’s Toontown will occur in two phases this fall starting with Centoonial Park and followed by Goofy’s How-To-Play Yard with a goal of completing the work by early November, according to Disneyland officials.

The Centoonial Park work includes adjusting the soft surface around the Dreaming Tree, repairing a leak under the Mickey and Minnie fountain and replacing a section of artificial turf with brick pavers, according to Disneyland officials.

Play elements will be added and repaired in Goofy’s How-To-Play Yard, according to Disneyland officials."

-----

"Disneyland officials understand the frustration of seeing construction walls and apologize for the inconvenience during the critical work to improve the guest experience.

Disneyland has been forced to address a host of issues in Toontown since the popular kiddie land that regularly teems with wall-to-wall visitors returned from a yearlong refurbishment.

Donald Duck’s water play area has yet to open. Teeter totters and a colorful bird house have been removed from Goofy’s Play Yard. Visitor traffic patterns over a section of turf between the Mickey & Minnie fountain and the Walt’s Dreaming Tree are forcing Disneyland to install pavers as a replacement."
