Oh wow! I didnt know there are new remasters! What other movies got them? That looks awesome! Are these on Bluray/4K?

The problem was they kept using the destructive 1990s remasters (where they literally rotoscoped and reanimated each frame) as baselines for all their future releases. This seems like they actually went back to the film print as the line work is back.
I believe the far left is the original film, the middle is DVD Platinum remaster, and the far right was a remaster done for the 4K release.

Is this the first time The Gremlins actually got acknowledged at the Disney Parks?

Now that's a very obscure reference!

I think just this, The Black Cauldron, and Sword of the Stone (only digitally, disc version still uses the infamously bad master). Snow White is allegedly getting a 4k release later this year, so hopefully that get a brand new remaster too.

Far left would be the laserdisc actually. The new remaster looks like they thankfully did a new 35mm scan and grade instead of reusing the destructive 90s restoration that got more aggressive each time around.

I wasn’t planning on buying the Cinderella 4k blu Ray but I just might now. What other movies did they destroy? I think Cinderella was the worst of them if I’m not mistaken? I have all the canon Disney movies on Blu Ray including all of the classics on Diamond/ Platinum (Pinocchio) and Signature Collection. Wondering which ones are worth buying again.

Well so far the new Cinderella 4K is only for DisneyMovie Club.

They've destroyed all their animated films as far as I'm concerned.

This thread covers the best releases of each version and which versions to avoid:

Lowry Digital was used by Disney since the early 90s.

The earliest things they did actually weren't bad at all given the time. The only Snow White releases on any home video format were done by Lowry. The Pinocchio Laserdisc done by Lowry I even prefer to earlier releases.

The laserdisc "masterpiece collection" sets Disney made are great collectors items with 12 x 12 books, bonus features, photo prints, and sometimes even soundtrack CDs. Many of the bonus features are more extensive than later releases and many such as the Snow White, Pinocchio, Lion King, Nightmare Before Christmas, and Toy Story boxes are gorgeous. They are pretty inexpensive too.

As time went on their "restorations" became more like reanimation and it got really bad by the time you got to Bluray.

I also spent a fortune getting every Disney feature on Bluray before I found out.

Just watch this video, they literally digitally rotoscoped elements out, and back in, essentially reanimating the movie. That doesn't even cover things like colors or too aggressive DNR (Digital Noise Reduction, if done too much it removes detail and blurs the whole picture).

Some movies look fine still like Pinocchio, but again it looks fake and not like a cartoon from the 40s. If you watch a laserdisc or even a VHS you'll see an actual cartoon not a weird HD modern creation.

There are actually even fan made 35mm full scans of these films on the net of theatrical prints and they look gorgeous.

Again though I'm thrilled that Disney is actually going back and doing this the right way now. Just this one movie release means someone in the company finally cares.

This is great! Thanks for sharing. My takeaway: Get the laser discs! Lol. I do have some of the acceptable alternatives though.

Yes I’m hoping this is sign of good things to come.

The Disney Archive collection DVD sets done in the early 2000s are way more comprehensive than these. And they are not just random shorts.

These look like they are made for random soccer moms and not animation fans.

If you are a big animation/Disney fan opt for a laserdisc player as its the best ways to see their films pre digital restoration, including the shorts.

Why is it that we think that Disney animation should be only for animation fans and no one else?

I don't think this but I can see how that can be derived from my quickly written internet post.

I definitely think animation is for everyone just like any medium.

The fact is Disney used to do a good job appealing to all aspects of both their fandom as well as the general public. People should be able to buy all the Mickey Mouse shorts without resorting to a 20 year old expensive out of print DVD set.

People should also be able to buy a random selection of Mickey shorts.

For sure! That seems to be the consensus. But I think based on this Cinderella we will in a few years be able to go out and buy pristine copies of all these animated classics in 4K (hopefully).

I thought I was done buying Blu Rays. Looks like one more round of 4k’s is in order. So long as they are actually restoring them and fixing their mistakes. Of course, this time I’ll just be buying the classics among the Golden and Silver Age. So like 13ish movies.

I think these are the same versions that are on Disney+ now as well.
