Toontown has been removed from the maps completely, including the entry sign which has been replaced by the graphical construction wall.

Here's the most recent version of the land for posterity:

Well from the recent permit that SSG posted in the Permit thread it shows that at least we can confirm the Goofy's house is not being torn down completely.

Not sure if this has been discussed already in this thread, but some sources are hypothesizing a bridge/tunnel to connect Toontown to Galaxy's Edge. How likely do we think this is? I think it'd be wise to eliminate all dead-ends in the park, but that would be a looooong new path for Disney to build (and so I suspect it's highly unlikely).

It just doesn’t seem like the benefit is worth the effort/ cost of constructing a temporary long tunnel/ path through unthemed backstage areas. It would make more sense for them to create the path and do everything all at once when they expand Galaxies Edge. With that said it’s not as if they don’t have the resources to throw away at this temporary path or perhaps it’s possible they can get creative and actually create the final path even if it’s going though the unthemed backstage areas.

Perhaps the true reason for this path is to create a way out of the land that is outside of the firework fallout area. That way they can fill the indoor queue before/ during fireworks and just cycle through those guests until the fireworks are done. That’s been my long standing idea of how to keep MMRR operating if moving the fireworks launch area isn’t possible. Of course I’m not even sure that the MMRR building is technically out of the area. Or if it just applies to outdoors and not indoors.

At first thought you’d think they wouldn’t want to shut down this new E ticket every time they do fireworks but it’s not like DLR doesn’t have the capacity and they’ll only be doing fireworks on weekends when they do start up again.

Given that it's prominently featured in the artwork, I really don't think that it would make sense for Goofy's house to be scrapped.

My biggest complaint with Runaway Railway was the lack of details that paid homage to Mickey’s and Disney’s cartoon history.

The creative team on the cartoon really understands their target audience. There’s tons of references to old Disneyland attractions. Obscure Mickey Mouse and Silly Symphony characters come back from time to time. They even bring back older songs.

The ride had none of that. The environments and set pieces were super generic. It also didn’t feel that seamless, with the stark contrast from the floors and ceilings to the main screen. Not a bad ride, but I don’t think it delivered on being a great Mickey Mouse ride nor a great centrepiece attraction.

To be fair, if the concept art is an indication, the queue will feature all kinds of references to the classic Mickey cartoons. Those aren't referenced in the queue for WDW's version. So right there, Disneyland's version will be better, if only for that reason.

This is my expectation (if it ever even happens at all). I'm surprised that sites like RatChat continually mention this connective path as a real possibility during Toontown's closure. One year is not enough time.

And tbh I hadn't even considered the fireworks issue. There's no way they chose that location for M&MRR if they're going to have to shut the thing down every time there's fireworks... right? They must have some solution in mind.

Yes, that was the point of my post, the permit proves it beyond a reasonable doubt that it'll be returning in some form.

It's so sad that the entrance is walled off like this.
While sad what else would you expect them to do if they are going to refurb the entire land. Wouldn't make sense to have the entrance open into a land that is closed.

A path between ToonTown and Galaxy's Edge never made sense to me thematically. You can get away with foresty Critter Country meeting up with the Resistance side of the land, and rocky Frontierland meeting up with the First Order side of the land. ToonTown to GE seems jarring...much like Toy Story Land to GE is jarring at DHS. Also, where would a suitable entrance be in Black Spire Outpost for the entry point?

And tbh I hadn't even considered the fireworks issue. There's no way they chose that location for M&MRR if they're going to have to shut the thing down every time there's fireworks... right? They must have some solution in mind.
From what I remember, the fireworks launchers that were on the south side of the old backstage building (which the ToonTown hills were hanging on) were moved to the north side of the new MMRR building for this exact reason. So that there would be enough distance to allow TT to be open during fireworks. I think that's what these raised grid-looking platforms are for:

I’m not sure. You wouldn’t think so but I can rationalize both sides as I did in my last post

I still think it would be cool if they repurposed Goofy's house as the fun little painting attraction they have in Tokyo, but that's probably a long shot.

I wasn't talking about refurbishing the land, I was talking about them keeping most of the hands-on areas shut down as a result of the pandemic after the park reopened.

Come to think of it, I'm not sure if a year is enough time to overhaul the land either if it's going to be open by early 2023 (I would think "early" means "January through March"). Granted, the construction on the Runaway Railway is relatively far along (at least as far as the outside), but what about the rest of the land? It only just shut down, and they have a lot of stuff to do, if the concept art is an indication.

Yes you've mentioned this before in this thread. It would be interesting if they did that, we'll have to wait and see how things turn out.
