News Reimagined Toontown coming

My guess is MMRR is mostly complete except for the vehicle ride system. I bet most of the sets and projectors are installed. The queue is probably being built now. The areas in ToonTown where things are being added were mostly empty to begin with. It will get completely repaved and we know how long that takes since Disneyland is constantly being repaved.

The only major structure is the entrance to MMRR and the framework is mostly done there. If they can build the entirety of GE in 2 years, they can do the restructuring of ToonTown in one year no problem......pending no major rains or storms, but this year is predicted to be pretty dry.

I could be mistaken, but I thought I heard a rumor that the 2022-'23 season could be an El Nino year. Things might have changed, though.

I don't understand that part.

All the major west coast news orgs have been writing stories the past few days about this being another dry year.

On the latest MiceChat article, they focus most of the attention (in Disneyland anyway) on the New Orleans Square project (which looks like a big job in and of itself (I don't know how they can get it all done by May or so)), while only mentioning the Toontown overhaul as almost an afterthought, with just a rehash of what we already know, that this is a reimagining for the arrival of the Runaway Railway, along with images of the concept art at the entrance. No new construction photos (which would probably be hard to get anyway, as you could only do it from the Railroad) or any other clues of them moving things along.

I know Disneys construction projects move at a snails pace these days but is it really that big of a deal to flatten some stairs, redo some planters, possibly re work POTC’s tiny outdoor queue and take out a couple of sick trees?

No, but here's the thing: I'm going to Anaheim for Star Wars Celebration, and I'm going to squeeze in a day (or at least a few hours) at Disneyland as well. Pirates of the Caribbean is one of my absolute favorite rides in the park, and I will be pretty bummed if it's not open then. It has been mentioned vaguely that Pirates would reopen sometime in summer (or soon, as the construction sign said), but for all I know, summer could mean any time at all, even mid-May, which is usually when the summer season begins.

Of course, I will also be somewhat disappointed that Toontown is closed as well, as I love that land and especially the Roger Rabbit ride, another absolute favorite of mine, but I already knew a long time ago it was going to be closing for a while, so I'm more prepared for that.

So why do we think they removed the Toontown sign from the bridge over the entrance to the land. No need to advertise a land that won’t be there for a year? Or is it going to be “Mickey and Minnie’s Toontown?” Or perhaps just “Toontown” when it comes back?

Could be just to protect the sign during construction, or could be they will replace the sign with a new one. Who knows at this point.

Maybe. Oh yea for whatever reason I didn’t consider them using the main entrance to get equipment/ materials in and out of the land

That is one possible reason, just in general though you would at least cover it if not remove it completely during construction to protect it. They might also be doing a little work on the bridge itself during the project.

I hope that Gadget's Go Coaster gets a retheme now that Chip 'n' Dale's Treehouse is in fact gone (and good riddance). According to Tony Baxter, in David Koenig's "Mouse Under Glass", on the subject of that all-important matter of synergy:

"Divisions have to promote each other. So Disneyland Afternoon Live and Gadget's Go Coaster were to please that division. Unfortunately, as soon as the shows are off the air, no one may remember them. In fact, Chip and Dale (Nut House) aren't there for the cartoons you and I know them for - they're only for 'Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers'."

It's going to be pretty awkward if Chip 'n' Dale's Treehouse is gone, but Gadget remains as is. I think it should be rethemed to something else. Maybe it could be themed to Chip 'n' Dale (the cartoons, preferably, not "Rescue Rangers"). Or given its proximity to Donald's Boat, it could be given a duck theme. I had gone over in my Imagineering thread a suggestion, which was to give it a theme of those backyard coasters that have become so popular lately, a coaster for Huey, Dewey and Louie.
