There is no end to the indignities EPCOT's corpse has to suffer. 😪

I know, right? A "Future World" that contains attractions having nothing to do with the future (SSE, Figment, Soarin) and when it does, the exhibitions become outdated within half a decade and linger on for years like some joke. Or a pavilion whose message is dictated by its Big Oil sponsor to include false science to make their industry seem 'cool.' Or even the fact that there are corporate sponsors diluting the purity of the theme park and having an affect on whether a pavilion stays or goes. Or the immaturity of the use of puns for their food and merch services. Or all those mini-kiosks of hands-on future-tech demonstrations that had a ridiculously low guest capacity leaving thousands of children frustrated daily that they can't get their turn.

Oh, the indignities of what had once been perfect... on the drawing board and in the memories clouded by nostalgia.

Yes, let's mock the ambitions that once rose above naming restaurants after an IP that has nothing BUT nostalgia going for it.

To be fair, at the latest tony Baxter talk I attended during the Carolwood Pacific event, it dawned on me how we have really traded corporate sponsorships with ip. I’d rather have Sam Eagle than the Apple Cafe.

I’m not for IP in world showcase at all... but that Norwegian Viking ship has sailed. I do hope that frozen will remain the worst offender in world showcase... at least Mary Poppins and Remy very much exist in those worlds, unlike Anna and Elsa.

Oh, I'm aware the ship has sailed. But there's still no excuse for tacky. I apply this not only to the upcoming puppet-themed restaurant but to the Guardians of the Galaxy ride. (Although at least Guardians has made the Iger Company some money back on its investment...)

Look I’m a fan of the muppets, I know that you are not. But would you honestly prefer a guardians themed “mix tape” restaurant at the American Adventure?

Guardians in Epcot taking over universe of energy is the worst of the worst in my book.

You're acting as if there's a choice between the two. They're both terrible choices. Only a shallow idiot with an utter lack of taste would even think of renaming Liberty Inn after a Muppet. And put Guardians in Universe of Energy. But this is how the Robert Iger company operates the parks. They're just hubs for merchandising now, for hyping IP. It's a sad reality that nobody should celebrate IMO.

How do you feel about Mary Poppins and Remy?

Still trying to determine if the theme of the restaurant inside will be Sam the eagle heavy. Or just some of the signage. Any idea?

Guests will have to imitate Sam's voice and bearing while reciting a line from a founding father if they want to place an order:

"Gentlemen, we must hang together or, assuredly, we will hang separately and I'll have a liberty burger with freedom fries and a chocolate d'aerie shake."

The Liberty Inn was named after the reason the American colonies fought against their oppressors and eventually, after years of bloodshed and sacrifice, formed a new nation. You know, no big deal.
And you know what restaurant better celebrates Colonial America's fight for freedom then American Adventure's cheeseburger joint? The Liberty Tree Tavern at Magic Kingdom. Could easily see the desire of rebranding the Liberty Inn coming from feeling it was redundant or to cease some perceived guest confusion.

So? Even if that were the case it doesn’t mean it has to be based on a caricature.

In 2020, IP versus corporate sponsors aren’t the only options. This isn’t Walt Disney Productions who couldn’t afford to build out hotels in their new vacation kingdom. This is the massive conglomerate Walt Disney Company that owns every major IP and about 40% of the 2019 Box Office.

Also, Disney didn’t innovate the idea of corporate sponsors. That’s how most themed entertainment business was done at the time, even extending to TV specials (“Coca-Cola presents Walt Disney’s ‘One Hour in Wonderland’”; “Coca-Cola presents ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’”).

To be fair, at the latest tony Baxter talk I attended during the Carolwood Pacific event, it dawned on me how we have really traded corporate sponsorships with ip. I’d rather have Sam Eagle than the Apple Cafe.

No question, it’s messy. Maybe the problem isn’t IP itself, but simply slapping cartoons onto everything to make it “Disney.” It’s a cheap way out, but people who are brainwashed by the marketing machine love it.

As an annual event, this would’ve been great. (It’s certainly no worse than the old Barbie show which was in World Showcase.) As a permanent fixture, it further makes Epcot the MK 2.0, and there are plenty of fans who think that’s how it should be. It’s a sad fact because it’s dictated by a marketing department instead of traditional WDI creativity.

I expect it to be like PizzaRizzo, light touches of theming and the signage mentioning the character.

I agree with this, addition of characters is basically internal sponsorship. There were so many things in original Disneyland and Epcot that were named after their corporate sponsorship.

Yeah, my question really is "what's the purpose?" Does Disney really think they will sell more BBQ because of Sam the Eagle? It doesn't really reinforce the history of America theme. It doesn't provide any entertainment value. It just seems like pointless crass commercialization.

Branding. Keeps the Muppet brand up in people's eyes. You shouldn't be able to look anywhere and not see a Disney branded product while in Disney World.

So... maybe get D+ and watch the new Muppet show!

Whether one likes being marketed to in such a way is another matter. Though it's hard to see that the majority of people spending big bucks for a Disney park are going to complain about seeing Disney products.
