Rebranding Pop Century?

Just wondering, if Pop isn't filling rooms, then as I have heard here and seen in person why do they have bus routes to the parks to themselves? I mean if they don't have the people staying there, wouldn't a natural cost saving measure be to include the Pop Century stop in with another route? If they don't have enough people staying there, wouldn't a sign be needing less busses??? I don't know, just asking.

Please dont cut the bus numbers down at POP. I was there the first week in October and EVERY bus I got on was crowded. A few times we had to wait for a second bus to come to get the rest of the people in line. I very rarely got to sit in a seat while there that week. I was standing most of the time on the busses during my last stay.

I see we have some Soup fans here:D Between Spaghetti Cat and "It's Miley", how could you not be?

I loved the one from a week ago, "It's McCain!" or about Seacrest, "He's tiny!"

I can't wait to watch The Soup presents: Chicks Man Part II tonight when I get home.

This is so true. I cant tell you how many times I was leaving the MK for an emh or just a regular night, and saw Pop's lines to be the longest on that side. I also remember sometimes seeing them send 3 busses at a time, to get the line moving. So I dont really buy the whole thing about it not filling rooms. I think people will stay at pop regardless of its theme and imo, its kind of pointless to try and retheme it to get more people. Sure, an animation resort may be more appealing to young kids, but I dont think that the current theme will make any family say, "Oh, lets not stay here the theme isnt nice." I mean, I think that kids enjoy seeing all the icons and stuff at pop half century, and I dont think it matters if they change it or not. If disney wants an animation building resort, than to me they should do either 2 things. Destroy the bridge and change the theme of the other buildings that were once to be the legendary years, and maybe rename pop half century, ie. get rid of the century. They could also finish the legendary years part. Or, they could just build another value resort themed to this animation thing.

Movies is by far the most popular 'value resort' and that comes from the folks who do the bookings.

Sports follows and then POP.

Music, my personal fave of the motels (that's what they are), is the least popular.

I like it that way. POP is by far the better of the value resorts. Maybe that's just because its not full of cheerleaders when I visit. Really, they should just build a cheerleader resort and send them all there. Its one of the most annoying things I've ever dealt with having to share a resort with all of them out in force taking over courtyards to practice routines, getting into arguments with each other over who's team is the best, etc...

I think that replacing Pop is a great idea. Ok, I've never stayed there, but right now, we are already in a new century. So if Pop was to continue, wouldn't the name have to change to Pop 20th Century? I can understand the reasoning for not wanting to build the first half of the century now, but back when it was being built, they should have built the entire thing. Slow down in the economy or whatever, money and resources were definitely wasted on these shells of buildings that will now have to be demolished (even if Pop were to continue with the Legendary years).

My only question now is that it seems like some of the huge icons from Pop will (or may) be saved for the new Inn and Suites. Great, but what about All Star Movies that has many huge icons of animated characters. Maybe a retheme of All Star Movies to the Live Action films would be in order.

As Disney usually does, they are reacting to something happening around them. They did it when Universal Studios Florida was announced and we got a halfbaked Disney/MGM Studios. We got Pleasure Island for its reaction to Church Street Station. We also got Animal Kingdom when they reacted to all the live animal parks as well as Busch Gardens in Tampa. Now with the Disney Animation Inn and Suites, its just a reaction to the popular Nickelodeon Inn and Suites.

I just hope soon there is a big reaction to the Harry Potter project.

So yes, I think a retheming of the Pop resort would be a great thing. First off, getting more suites in for families. Room size is a key issue with a family of five or more. It would finally finish off the other side of the lake, which is a great thing.

Well, don't go crazy, here. Pop's rooms number in the thousands, even being only half-completed, so there's still plenty of people who need transporttion even if the rooms aren't all filled. Chances are, during slow times, they just run fewer buses, and the buses they do run still probably get filled up.

After reading about how the laundry areas in the Sports resort is needs new washers and dryers, do the resorts have hi efficiency front loader washers and dryers? With all the electricity Disney uses, they should.

How does the Pop number of rooms compare with other resorts that have to share bus routes?

Why do we not trust JHM? Because we have viewed his "news" for years, and 9/10 what he says never comes to fruition. There are no personal vendettas, he's just wrong a lot of the time. It's the same reason we generally trust Al Lutz (he is very often correct) and increasingly trust Screamscape (they get a lot right and seem to have some good sources, though obviously not everything is right).

Says who? Says you?? I just think someone here just doesn't like the guy, spread some hate about it, and the rest picked up on it. I'm not trying to defend JHM, but if the site is soooo full of BS, why do people bother linking to his stories and then discussing them as if there are really going to happen???

Lets be realistic here. 90% of ANY Disney news we here from ANYWHERE doesn't produce fruit! And that is simply becuase of the "blue sky" Disney uses for its ideas and then are leaked out through forums like this. No doubt an expert like yourself could just rattle off dozens of projects that you yourself knew were "in the works" or even confirmed, but were cancelled for a plethora of reasons.

If JHM talks about, but its cancelled by Disney, does that make his stories false? If woudl just seem its entirely too convenient for people to just dismiss his stories and form their own opinions. I have no doubt whatsoever that if someone would take the time to look at his rumors for the last year, I bet they have merit to them. Maybe the rumors are green lit projects, but I bet they were legit items on the table with Disney.

How many times have you seen discussions on these forums where 2 "experts" talk about a topic and say that they heard different from each other? I've seen it countless times so which person should we start discrediting?

I saw that JHM has a recent article concerning a pilot program for $500 Disney merchanise cards that you pre-pay for $395. http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_h...ted-merchandise-credits-to-select-guests.aspx

I guess this is a rumor, too?

Disney's Animation Inn and Suites? Trying fitting that on a waffle. (those who have stayed at the POP know what I mean).

From Jim Hill's article: "Baby boomers may think that it's cool to see a huge can of Play-Doh or a giant Big Wheel. But these oversized icons had zero appeal for their parents or their children."

Huh? My three-year-old niece is crazy about Play-Doh. If she saw the giant can at POP she'd have a conniption. And what kid wouldn't love a giant tricycle?

I just returned last night from 8-nights at the POP - my first stay there. When I booked with the AP rate they asked my value resort preference and I said it didn't matter. The POP is where I ended up. From my room - two minutes to the pool and bus and three minutes to the food court. Bus service was scarily good the entire week. Only twice did I wait more than two minutes for a bus. Almost every time one was waiting or pulling up. I did stand a lot but that was expected. Twice the POP bus pulled away - and another immediately pulled in.

I don't get the theme thing. I would think kids would like the giant toys, even if they don't get the catchphrases. Why would they like the POP any less than any of the mods or deluxes that are filled with kids?

Bugs,

Kiddo... I understand your frustration. Many times I've felt that people have unscrupulously bashed Disney writers such as Jim Hill. I'm sure you're not concerned with my opinion, but I really don't like the tone of your post.

I think there is a lot of presumption in what you wrote. Also, you direct all of the Jim Hill criticism onto Kyle. He's a bright guy, I think you could learn a lot from him... I have.
