"Rapid Fill" Mugs Coming to Walt Disney World Hotels

You know, most of the time I've found the ice water from the fountain service places in the parks tastes pretty good. It's the same filtered water used for the soda in most cases. Of course I do try to get most of my water from the ice in my mixed drinks :)
Casey's doesn't use filtered for some reason, but Sunshine Seasons definitely, and it's the best tasting water in all the parks!

So they aren't updating the mugs for this? Ugh...we already have two of the Fab 5 at the pool and don't really want two more in 2014. Is it too much to ask for new mugs yearly (or even every other year), especially if the price is going to keep going up?

Here is the little article:

Walt Disney World's new refillable mug program — "Rapid Fill" — is being rolled out at all resort hotel locations with self-service beverage stations. The drinks stations at the Port Orleans food courts are in the process of being modified at the moment, so presumably after a short testing phase the system will be going live soon (no confirmed dates as yet though).
The new Rapid Fill mugs feature a radio frequency identification (RFID) chip installed in the mug which allows it to be used for a specific amount of days, all the way through to the guests’ entire length of stay if required (multiple-resort stays are allowed, but the days must be CONSECUTIVE).
The new mugs will allow guests to refill beverages at any resort's self-service beverage station, not just at their home resort (but NOT at the theme parks or water parks). Guests will be able to check their remaining days via the fountain beverage dispenser’s display screen.
The prices for the new mugs will be as follows:
$8.99 for 1 day
$11.99 for 2 days
$14.99 for 3 days
$17.99 for length of stay (4-14 days, but can be specifically extended for longer stays)
Note: It will still be possible to buy a single drink (paper cup) at the food courts, which will contain an RFID chip coded for your current visit only.
Rapid Fill mugs may be purchased and used at any resort self-service beverage island, and Disney Dining Plan guests will receive the new mugs as part of their package.

The way I feel about this topic is that it was bound to happen. . My concern is the fill up allotted time management. I don't know about you guys but my ten gulps equal hubby's one gulp and I'm pretty sure there going to be some thirsty peeved off person having to wait for next refill. And that is where I see it it as a bit too much.

I believe it is one set of artwork (Fab 5 at the pool), but possibly different colored lids and base mugs to help with ID.

Don't see any need for new colors if the dispensers are controlled electronically . Either the system will work, or they'll just have to turn it off and go back to square one, or a different vendor. Just another example of some people's boorish behavior driving up expense for everyone.

With ID I was referring to helping families ID which cup belongs to which family member.

As AP holders from Chicago, we go often on long weekends, many times a year. Don't get a mug every time (oh poor me, right? :) but I do purchase one when they change the design. Don't drink a lot of soda anyway but do drink it when I have the mug so I personally am okay with continuing with water. But I'm wondering if the new system will have free refillable water at these stations or will we need to go back to the counter service area for more water?

I would love more colors. They only had 3 on our last trip and we have 4 people in out family.
Guess I jumped on that without realizing what you meant by 'ID'. I agree that with the amount that they're charging, the customer should at least get a collectible feature with their purchase. The 'Aulani' refillable mugs are really distinctive , and I'm sure they don't sell nearly that many of them.

The water will not require RFID activation.

HEY EVERYONE!!!!!!

Just be glad that WDW isn't in New York. If it was this would be a mute moot discussion because the elected officials would make soda/pop illegal to consume.

LOL omg I lived in NY last year for work and I am an avid soda drinker. Lets just say I struggled dining out. If you ask for a diet coke -they look at you like your crazy. And there are NO free refills and they serve pop in a little glass that costs $4. HAHA
