PUSH the Talking Trashcan's last day?

Whether that's what happened or not, it made no sense for Disney to make that statement if there was no agreement yet. You don't see the LA Dodgers saying "Clayton Kershaw isn't going anywhere," then Kershaw raising his asking price & fans getting PO'd about broken promises. If pro sports teams are all smart enough not to do that, why isn't Disney?

Because the idea players are under contract is a well known and accepted concept for baseball players. Disney doesn't like to expose/acknowledge that much of their product is actually outsourced/contract work, etc. They like to product 'this is Disney...'

Based on the same article that Flynn posted, looks like they are at least attempting to continue to negotiate.

It sounds like (in hindsight) it was an ongoing negotiation... the contractor 'leaks' the story to try to create leverage.. disney is queried midstream and gives typical PR response.. stay the course.. and ultimately the parties can't agree to terms before the deal expires.

All the agnst about the bloggers, etc is all overhyped IMO. Is this much different than any other place where someone leaks a slanted version of their tale to try to move the needle to their favor? Hell, look at Miceage... Al sucked in those disgruntled employee tips for a decade. People with an agenda or ax to grind are going to be the most interested in talking.

If the attempt at creating leverage or not soured the deal further... who knows. Unless we get any insider info from the Disney side it's going to remain a black box.

For all we know it could have been a legal mandate from above and had nothing to do with the intentions of entertainment managers or budget hawks. Or it could have been Disney trying to push the limits and try to leverage the contractor out over time.... Or it could have been retaliation... who knows. Sounds more like open speculation than anything at this point.

The IP angle is interesting tho.. for something Disney has done for so long, you'd think Disney would have tried to buy the company out and make the guys employees. Yet, the guy remains independent... making you believe he thinks he has the rights/ability to apply the idea elsewhere.

Well this is sad to see the end results.....but not overly surprising.

PUSH was fun. I enjoyed seeing him in action over the years, and getting a nice *behind the scenes* peek into how he is operated/performed a few years back was equally fun.

When i read the posts earlier about him taking a *farewell roll* through the Tunnels, and being stripped down later that evening, it was a kind of depressing.

Watch for those sure-to-be-coming *PIeces of History* Trading Pins for PUSH to follow in a couple of months....right after the *SpectroMagic* ones that are currently on pre-order now.....

:(

Can you elaborate on "being stripped down"?

WHAT??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
I agree.
I FEEL CHEATED!!!

SHAME ON YOU PUSH!
The OS article at least provides some info from the point of view of the contractor. He says they were at odds over language in the contract over IP.

sounds like Disney was trying to appropriate more of the rights of Push.

I have no details, my comments were in regards to the two posts below i read earlier in this thread.
The first one quoted below left the impression that PUSH was taken apart/gutted yesterday...but wow, if that is the case that was amazingly FAST.

The two posts from yesterday i was referring to :

Stripped down at 3 am this morning. :( (

Push is done. He did a farewell roll through the MK tunnel system yesterday afternoon for cast. An acquaintance cast member took an "illegal" picture.

"Operations:
We will no longer have a talking trashcan performing act at Walt Disney World Resort effective Sunday, February 9. We will continue to offer a rich mix of atmosphere entertainment for our guests, including the new #INCREDIBLESSuperDanceParty at Rockettower Plaza Stage."

Before one slits their wrists over this... you do realize that statement could have simply meant 'they took the Disney supplied trash can off the RC chassis'. If Disney supplied and maintained the trashcan shell... taking PUSH home simply could have meant needing to remove that shell and leaving it with Disney.

Don't take this to mean 'They hacked PUSH up and he'll never spin again!'

I learned something new today. PUSH is not a Disney property, but third party created, owned and operated!
Wow! Who knew?

With this coming to light now, and the expiration of his contract, I have to wonder if a certain other theme park in Orlando might soon have a talking trashcan rolling around their parks soon?

Decades ago, before I think Push was appearing at WDW, I saw the concept used at, if I remember correctly, the Columbus (Ohio) Center of Science and Industry.

Wonder if the social media brigade asked any tough questions about this during their FoF parade fashion show at MK this morning?

Typically, that sort of behavior is frowned upon and even considered unprofessional by companies when giving a "sneak peek" or "preview" of something new. The company/presenter will take note of people who do such things like asking off-topic questions, especially if the questions could be considered bad press, and the organization or person asking the question will likely be removed from future presentations. It's tantamount to committing suicide. Not that these kinds of questions are unacceptable, but there's a proper time and place for them.

Is it not possible that something changed? If the root issue here is as described.. which is an ongoing contract issue... Disney wasn't lying if Disney intended to keep PUSH reporting.

But what you intend to do.. and what you accomplish aren't always equal.

If anything Disney would have been guilty of being coy and not sharing ALL the details. But that's standard fare for PR.. don't share more than you need to.

Sure things can change. But I would have thought that someone in PR would know better than to answer a
question with a yes when they really weren't sure. They should have said that negotiations were on going or
some other PR verbage.

Again... consider the posture Disney has about it's contractors. The idea that these are things Disney doesn't own and contracts out aren't really positions they like to draw attention to.

And you can take the comments from the contractor in as well... his comment back to Jason Garcia about if Disney 'lied' or not..

(@DanielR2dj) @Jason_Garcia I honestly think Disney didn'tt lie about anything. We both expected Push to remain in the park. Contracts are complicated

https://twitter.com/DanielR2dj/statuses/432977225437437952

It's PR - you don't share what you don't want to emphasis and don't give out more than is needed to answer the question. All Disney did was answer to what they were doing now and their intention. Remember also Disney is very controlled in what they say vs future changes in offerings/etc.
