Orlando Mayor says that HP2.0 will open "next year" (depending on when he took a pause...)

“This summer, they will open the new Transformers 3D ride, followed by the opening next year of a new resort hotel and the expansion of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter,”

So, it depends on whether he means...

  • "followed by the opening next year of (a new resort hotel and HP2.0)"
or
  • "followed by the opening next year of a new resort hotel, AND HP2.0 (at some point in the future)

Hopefully it will be the case that he means next year (2014) as we are planning to go November/December 2014 and would hate to miss it by a few months...

Massive is right! Holy cow!

How's progress going? On pace or ahead of schedule? I know it's early but I'm REALLY hoping this opens before Oct. 2014.

Everything is on schedule minus the South Station for the Hogwarts Express which is behind schedule. But the south station is now utilizing a third shift as well.

Do we actually have an end date roughly set yet? (it seems to keep changing between 2014 and 2015)

I wonder if there will ever be "Potter Conventions" in 10 years...? Like there are with Star Trek and Star Wars?

.

Ever? There are multiple Potter conventions every year, and have been for years. I would bet good money they will be going on long into the future, as each year the attendence of the cons increases. People pay over $200 just for the registration fees of LeakyCon, whose last con in Chicago has over 3,800 attendees. The fans spend like drunken sailors at these events (I know, I've done it too) for all the paraphernalia they can get their hands on- and the balls, and the costumes, etc. etc.
There have been times when "Harry Potter Generation" was trending on Twitter.

Not to mention the Quidditch World Cup, part of the IQA (International Quiddith Association) which this year will be in Kissimmee in April. This is people playing quidditch as if it were a professional sport.

@HTF have there been drawings that show the orientation of the land? I'm trying to get my head around if they will make the london fascades face the lake at all.. or if they plan on making it all interior facing in some way how WWOHP is now. The structures are so big and so close to the lake.. wondering how that is all laid out.

The structures are massive and most facades in phase 2 will be 2-4 stories taller than those in Hogsmeade. If you hit me up over at OU, I have a diagram of the overall land layout in my forum members only section. Just PM me to remind me and I'll link you to what you want to see, or at least what I think you want to see. One of our insiders Teebin also has a 3d model floating around I can get to you as well. Take care!
