Or they could be cheap and have it be a pop century style Star Wars hotel ...with a giant stormtrooper helmet!
The most expensive "value" resort in WDW History at a min $200/nightthis is probably most likely - a value resort with obnoxious oversized theming

Okay, but can you REALLY have a Giant Death Star outside of EPCOT, when you already have Mission Earth INSIDE?A giant Death Star you can stay in would be a huge, huge hit.
Not if it occasionally shot a giant laser at Spaceship Earth.Okay, but can you REALLY have a Giant Death Star outside of EPCOT, when you already have Mission Earth INSIDE?
Wouldn't that look a bit.....I don't know..copy cattish?
So....getting back to the non-Star Wars Resort hotel rumors......
Epcot Resort hotel rumors -
Several years ago now I recall their being talk about building a large hotel on part of Epcot's massive parking lot.
The area is huge as back when the Park was built in the early 80s most Guests arrived in their own cars.
They were not bussed in from multiple other Resorts on property like today as the Resort sprawl and transportation systems to serve them all now did not exsist then.
So they needed that huge parking lot.
Today, not so much.
That valuable land space was being eyeballed for hotel development, or so the rumor went.
Looking at the proposed spot, it could have easily been grabbed and turned into a multi-level Resort if there was a real desire to do so.
Theoretically a hotel could be built as the lot is suitable for building since it is already a part of the Park plot.
No need for environmental clearance.
The idea at the time was to have a swag 'Deluxe' Resort built there off center to the entrance of Epcot and market it much like the Contemporary was / is.
They still need the parking lot. Visit when the races are on and if you are late you will be parking miles from the entrance. Good thing the hotel is not going to take up much of the lot but might restrict your view of SSE as you approach on the monorail.
The other Epcot Resort rumor I remember from a few years back was the suggestion being tossed around to add some type of non-intrusive DVC exclusive rooms to the upper levels of some buildings in World Showcase.
There was also some suggestions made by Eddie Sotto at the time of a themed Resort being added right behind World Showcase that would be in a position to allow Guests staying there to see right into the Park.
Made me think of the Disneyland Paris Hotel built right above that Parks' entrance.
Now wether or not either of these proposed rumored projects ever made it to any sort of serious developmental stage is anyone's guess, but at the time I was led to beleive it was at least being considered.
Perhaps these concepts have not been forgotten after all.....

I think when the EPCOT DVC rumor first broke a few years back the thought was that they would build a parking garage as well to make up for lost spots and additional cars parked at the resort. One of the proposed areas covered what is now the EPCOT bus stop so they would need to relocate the bus area into part of the existing parking lot. They still need the parking lot. Yes, that is why I editied my reply. I had to look at the map to be sure of the proposed location and I had said it would obstruct your view of SSE from the monorail but I see they want to put this in back now. I think we will see the one by the parking sometime in the future unless Ford's dire future for WDW comes to pass.I think when the EPCOT DVC rumor first broke a few years back the thought was that they would build a parking garage as well to make up for lost spots and additional cars parked at the resort. Considering how crowed the parks currently are, I'm surprised nobody has questioned where all the guest of these new resorts are supposed to go when they aren't sleeping. Star Wars Land & Avatar Land surely aren't large enough areas to handle the extra guest from these new resorts along with the already overcrowded parks.

What year was this rumor going around? Not sure if I have heard this one before. ..I do recall a rumor to add a resort on the express line somewhere along World drive, but that must be something different. Can you guys circle where the proposed resort would have been located:I think when the EPCOT DVC rumor first broke a few years back the thought was that they would build a parking garage as well to make up for lost spots and additional cars parked at the resort. There's a rumor that part of the Epcot redevelopment will include a new luxury resort connected to or replacing The American Adventure and be integrated into WS not unlike the hotel gateways at DisneySea, California Adventure, and Paris. The views of Illuminations, or whatever the new nighttime show is, will be fantastic. The name I heard being tossed around is "The Grand American." The rumor of a new Epcot resort near the entrance is half correct. The new resort will will be located at the entrance, but it will be a new entrance at the southern end of the park. We'll see if this is actually correct when they announce the plans for Epcot 2.0.The Epcot resort pad is particularly interesting because technically it could feature a breezeway connection over to World Showcase. This image shows a connection from a Epcot WS themed resort directly to it's own gate next to American Adventure:

let me guess, no kids?Exactly. One of the ugliest things on property.
Not happening as things stand. There's a rumor that part of the Epcot redevelopment will include a new luxury resort connected to or replacing The American Adventure and be integrated into WS..
This was maybe 2 to 3 years ago. Before the new WL section was added to DVC. I think it was maybe in one of the spirited threads. The original rumor was a DVC behind world showcase with a possible direct entrance to the park. That was scrapped due to cost and logistics of moving a ton of backstage stuff. The rumor was then that they were looking at a tower type project with direct views into the park. The 2 rumored areas were either directly behind Seas or on the other side behind or in place of Wonders of Life. I think the Seas side was the more likely.
