Possible Frontierland expansion

More like the scale and scope of the main room as well as the queue.
I agree it's impressive, but I think it is in some ways over-rated. The queue is phenomenal. The ride itself looks better on a violent ride system. Traveling slowly, many scenes would look similar to the dark rides they have at state fairs.

Does CBJ use enough space to house a dark ride even? If not, I hope they just leave it alone. Actually, I hope they keep CBJ and perhaps just update it.

Appologies if someone has already made up one of these:

Here is 2 options.

1) keeping access to the service canal:

2) No canal access for RoA:

^^Now that is a huge chunk of land^^

I can't see them eliminating the canal access. But I never realized how large of an expansion pad they could have! Lots of potential room for additions.

If this is the route they choose, I would love to see a bit more Liberty Square over there to help the HM tie in thematically.

Anything that had American rivers and/or landscapes featured prominently within the IP would work. This includes, just to name a few, Pocahontas, Princess and the Frog, Davy Crockett, Tom Sawyer, Ichabod Crane, The Rescuers, and of course Frozen.
Pocahontas - VA; PatF - NOLA; Ichabod - NY; Rescuers - NY (I think); Frozen - nowhere in particular. Davy Crockett is really the only "Western" IP listed. Tom Saywer is really mid-west (but Walt put him in FrL, so it must be OK). But what about Mickey (who?). There were several, very well written daily continuity strips from the 30s by Floyd Gotfridsen that placed Mickey, Minnie, Horace, Clarabelle, Goofy, Pete (and who says they couldn't work in other Disney characters as well) in a "Wild West" setting, filled with close escapes, chases, gun fights, etc. These could be adapted into an all-ages AA-focused dark ride (omnimover, boat, or rail) that would have real storytelling, excitement and humor, and leverage off of Disney's most iconic IP. "It all started with a mouse" - and there is not a single attraction in WDW that has Mickey as the "star" (except Fantasmic)...

Well, that could be an option. Another option is they could re-theme the CBJ area to extend Liberty Square further west, to the corner. This move would re-center Frontier Land on the north expansion pad, with it ending at SM.

I would think you need the canal. It receives its water from the canal that runs along the west side of MK down into Seven Seas Lagoon. I like the concept, though. A portion of Tom Sawyer's Island has to go to make room for an expansion.

But it doesn't seem to diminish the popularity of KRR or GRR in DCA.

Comparing GRR and KRR is like comparing apples and oranges. KRR is probably the worst rapids ride in terms of content in the country. Bold statement? Yes. True? Yes. It has some of the best theming of any Disney ride, but it feels like it was shoehorned into the space its in. The ride is over as soon as you sit in the raft. It needed another 45 seconds to 1 minute of ride time. We'll never ride it again.

I've always wanted that section to be developed for Frontierland/Liberty Square. Besides new attractions adding capacity, there could be new scenery and a new train station built to break up that long stretch between Frontierland and Fantasyland stations.

Here is yet one more take that was circulated here years ago, with the intent of keeping the Liberty Bell Running. Although they'd still likely need the Canal to run along the North end.

This one just shows possible plots.

They certainly are not short on options. Whatever happens, I would be very surprised if the "on stage" water running from Haunted Mansion to Big Thunder was affected. Even if the filled in a ton of the back of ROA, it shouldn't really affect the current aesthetics apart from dry-docking the Lilly Belle.

I believe one of the rumors was that one of the islands would become a peninsula. I'm assuming the bigger of two. There is so much land back there it would be somewhat removed from Frontierland, depending on attraction entrance...which is why I've wondered if maybe it will have a completely different theme that makes for a better transition between HM and Big Thunder.

If this is separate from the $350 mil, I'd assume plans are more fluid as we wont see this expansion any time soon.

One big difference would be the loss of the show scenes that are around the larger island that you see from the Riverboat. If the Riverboat is changed to only travel around the smaller, lower island it would be a much shorter trip and would lose those show scene -- which IMHO are a big part of the fun.

That northern stretch of the train ride would be a nice place to put in a diorama like they have at other castle parks. The Grand Canyon diorama would be a perfect thematic fit as you pass by Frontierland and would help to break up that otherwise monotonous stretch of the train ride....
