Possible Attraction in France pavilion (Epcot) Update - new Attraction Greenlit

I thought we all settled the Rat is okay for France argument and were moving on*. So back on topic, I believe Martin has cleverly (as is the way) to say the France pavilion won't be reworked, but the entrance would be to the side off the main WS walk. Also, I think he is hinting that the expansion pad will be shared between RAT and something else - so it's probably a safe bet to believe the Rat ride isn't going to the Gateway side of France, the France Pavilion will remain fairly unchanged, and the expansion pad will be used most efficiently. That's what I got out of reading these forums. @marni1971 how far off am I?

*being Italian-American, there's many stereotypes that I don't like, but don't care about either. A Rat cooking french food in France should only offend the most sensitive out there.

Y'all are gonna look so silly when Rat opens up
And your like, dang, Disney kept this level of ride away from us for all these years... it's so easy to judge something from YouTube but unless you've been there and experienced it then you can't quite understand it. When I was there last September, I kept thinking, this is a good fit for epcot. It is.

I agree with @marni1971 on this one. When I went to Disneyland Paris is 2015, I was impressed with the ride, but not blown away. It relied heavily on screens and I felt the outside was better themed than the inside. I enjoyed it, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't "knock your socks off."

That said, I'd rather "something" be there rather than nothing, and Epcot really needs more rides. This one is thematically appropriate, so I'm all for it.

The rumored Mickey ride replacing The Great Movie Ride is almost certain to be LPS if though it's not certain if it's coming at all. And one of the SW rides, I believe, is supposed to be LPS on steroids.

I knew about the Mickey ride but did not know one of the Star Wars rides was supposed to be LPS.

I'm really hoping for the 50th they plus Winnie the Pooh and make it more like Tokyo's version with an LPS system, but I highly doubt that's going to happen.

To the contrary, a ride about the French people's love for food told by rats couldn't be a better addition to world showcase imo. Also the original Epcot has been dead for decades... embrace change.
That's nothing to be celebrated. From a purely operational and roster standpoint, this is a good thing. Classic EPCOT Center fans have always felt strongly that Pavillions like France should have been rounded out with more attractions long ago. I think we can all agree that we like more content.

With that said, I think you can also appreciate the negative feelings that many individuals would have about this change. What would an original WDI celebration of the dynamic and impactful nation of France look like? Something that celebrated Man's cultural achievements and fit into the park. That further pushed the boundaries of physical entertainment. Something meaningful.

We'll never know because an IP clone from WDS that doesn't center around man's cultural achievements was built instead.

Obviously I'll ride it and probably enjoy it, but once again we step away from a park's core foundation. Leaving behind its' ambitions for something closer to a Universal Park.

We can live with it, but there's no need for everyone to embrace it or ignore the consequences. There's a middle ground.

If funny you are passionate about it, but you were never there when it was "what it used to be". If you first went 11/99, you missed original SSE, Original UoE, Original Imagination, Horizons, WoM and Comuinicore. You also possible missed live guides for Living w/ the Land and a Nemo free Living Seas.

I am passionate because I worked there in 91' and missed the grand idea of what Epcot Center was. Why do YOU feel so passionately? Especially, since you visited after Epcot's heyday.

Why do people still bemoan the loss of the original Penn Station in New York City? Why do young people who never walked through a forest, fight for restoration and reclamation? Why do people restore buildings when they never saw them in their prime?

Because what's left behind intrigues and saddens them. Because they know there was a better time once. Because watching what little is left be replaced by disrespectful replacements is disappointing.

I never saw EPCOT in its' prime, but I wish I had.

For what it is, Rat is a good ride. By no means did it need to be LPS, and it really does use too many screens. It would be a solid edition to EPCOT, so long as marketing doesn't market it as an e-ticket extravaganza. But then again, look at how they promoted Mine Train...
I think the LPS adds to the capacity of the ride and allows the RV freedom to move over the same space as the other RV's. This allows more action in a smaller space.

I know Rat is not Mystic Manor. MM is a modern classic. Rat would be a nice addition to the France pavilion, mainly because WS needs rides. I prefer non-IP rides, but that is not my choice.

I consider Mermaid a D-ticket so, I guess this would be an E-ticket, just not one that will blow you away like DL Pirates.

Rat not being LPS would be a completely different experience. The genious of half the ride is that the rats are not confined to a track and that they veer off into their own areas from time to time. If people think rat is not and E-ticket, than they must also call an attraction like Spider-Man the same. Spider-Man, while not LPS, is a similar concept but more intense. We really need to separate the I don't like this because it's IP in Epcot debate from the... it's a good ride and fit for the park under the new direction. Not an E-ticket lol... it would be the most advanced ride at Epcot and I'd easily bet it would have the highest guest satisfaction ratings.

That is awesome! The EPCOT legacy is long and I am glad you support the original ideals.

I would argue that people who have not seen a forest would have to rely on only stories of the forest. EPCOT is similar, you can know it was better in the past, but unless you were there, you are relying on hearsay.

I wish I was at DL when the Matterhorn (with Skyway passage), Monorail (original route) and Subs opened in same year but, I was not there so I don't talk about what opening day was like since I have no idea what it was like. I never rode Adventures through Interspace so I don't pretend to know what it was like, even though I have seen videos.

You have every right to have an opinion of course. I just believe some opinions are better informed than others.

I'm surprised that rat is the front contender. The movie was years ago, and correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think it was a financial blockbuster. Does it really have widespread appeal? At least BATB is iconic and occurs in France. I feel like a hybrid ride of Belle walking us through the history of France could be interesting, but alas, I'm no Imagineer.
