To the contrary, a ride about the French people's love for food told by rats couldn't be a better addition to world showcase imo. Also the original Epcot has been dead for decades... embrace change.
I don't think the people of France would want people to think of cartoon rats when you think of their country.

I am not a hater by nature but I passionately care about Epcot and what it used to be that I find it difficult to see it's original mission statement get discarded this way.
If funny you are passionate about it, but you were never there when it was "what it used to be". If you first went 11/99, you missed original SSE, Original UoE, Original Imagination, Horizons, WoM and Comuinicore. You also possible missed live guides for Living w/ the Land and a Nemo free Living Seas.

I am passionate because I worked there in 91' and missed the grand idea of what Epcot Center was. Why do YOU feel so passionately? Especially, since you visited after Epcot's heyday.

I will admit the decline had begun by the time I first went, but it was still a pretty-much consistent statement in 1999. Also I did see The Living Seas,pre-Nemo. Since adding Nemo to the Seas, It has been apparent that Disney doesn't even care about the parks message anymore.

I agree with you there, but you have to admit that an ip that is about the food and culture of a country is literally the best choice outside of an original attraction. It's also not a replacement like Maelstrom was. It's best for placement to be done at least representing the country properly compared to just letting the park rot like it has for the last decade.
Cooking is the vehicle for Ratatouille's message of following one's dreams. French culture provides a cute stereotype that helps create the contrast and conflict. A rat being chased around a kitchen is even less about French culture.

Interestingly, I've noted on merchandise in the France pavilion that they have 'PARIS' on much of the merchandise. You don't get that in other world showcase countries... The UK pavilion doesn't list London or Cardiff or Edinburgh or Belfast on merch, you don't see Marrakesh merchandise in Morocco or Berlin merchandise in Germany.. just a thought as Ratatouille is set in Paris.

Could going forward with the new Epcot, world showcase becomes not countries but places... Ie arrendelle, Bavarian stories land, Paris, agrabah etc.

Just a thought..

Right, let's not all sit and pretend that somehow this movie is a dive into the deep rich culture of France. It's not the worse fit but it's not the direction Epcot should be taking. Especially when they have a Pixar Place they could have easily added it to.
Of course I want that to happen, but I for one just want to start being more positive. It's obvious Disney is changing directions in the way they do things, but I'd prefer that than to let EPCOT continue to rot.

If there could be some sort of compromise that would be wonderful. I doubt it will happen, but imagine if we get a new Figment ride if Rat/Beauty and/or Guardians happens. It's far better for Energy to go than Tot, and while this seems like I am settling... I am in a way, but I really do think good can happen if we just stop complaining about a very good ride replacing nothing, but as an expansion. As passionate as I am for EPCOT I'd prefer to see it reborn with some ips than having it continue to sink.

I know someone is going to reply to this comment and essentially roast me, but if you do you're missing the point. If you do please explain to me how EPCOT is worth letting strike into an iceberg rather than it shifting a bit but getting new life.

You don't breathe new life into a story by removing the story.

You're presenting a false dilemma that there are only two options for EPCOT'S future: Stuff it full of IPs or let it go to crap. Many prefer alternatives that hold Disney to their previous standards.

Y'all are gonna look so silly when Rat opens up
And your like, dang, Disney kept this level of ride away from us for all these years... it's so easy to judge something from YouTube but unless you've been there and experienced it then you can't quite understand it. When I was there last September, I kept thinking, this is a good fit for epcot. It is.

While I'd love an original story, Disney doesn't seem to be moving towards that direction. So I have to look at the two IPs at play: 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'Ratatouille'. Which one is the better fit for the area? 'Ratatouille', by a long shot. The movie is centered around France's love of food (doesn't matter if you're a rat or a food critic). The ride facade would also blend into the current France pavilion, so no worries there. And because Disney noticed that NFL was originally a little too 'girl' oriented, Ratatouille would bring a nice balance to Frozen and all of the Princess M&Gs around the World Showcase.

I'd really appreciate a ride centered around BatB... in Fantasyland. Keep it out of Epcot.

(side note- I am losing interest daily in the new BatB movie. Of course I want it to do well, but outside of Josh Gad's LeFou, I haven't been impressed with any of the recent trailers and clips. The heart and soul of the original movie seems to have been lost).

It's the weakest of the LPS rides but for a resort that has no true LPS attraction it'll be different. Until the others open.

I know its blasphemous but I don't really care what IPs go into the rides as long as the shops and restaurants remain country-centric. (Not saying Disney will keep them that way but at least the Norway theming still appears to be Norwegian). A good mix might get the kids there and force them to learn something.

As for the movie, I dont know, I still can't wait and my wife is dying to see it.

Or not...

The film is not centered around France's love of food. It's a pun and stereotype that provide a humorous accent. Nor does the architecture of the ride fit, as it is ornamented with anti-details that postulate a hypothetical France where rats are celebrated, contradicting the very narrative of the film and attraction.
