Poseidon’s Fury at Universal’s Islands of Adventure Closing Permanently May 9, 2023.

It's always sad when such a unique attraction closes.

I can't think of another like it. It had some cool spectacle, some good humour, and a so-bad-it's good cheesy finale.

Even when something isn't super popular, I always believe there is a benefit to having distinctive experiences that stick in one's mind.

Those "only at Disney" or "only at Universal" experiences keep us coming back, more so than more standard attractions that anyone could theoretically build.

It seems like the decision was last minute as it became way too expensive to maintain/run for the very low amount of guests who experience it on a daily basis, and they would rather have cost savings in the short-term while a long-term project is developed (or waiting for approval).

It's no secret that LC's days are limited, just a matter of when... which seems to be 2026/2027 as the goal for a new project to open up.

I'm no fan of SBNO attractions, but I'm really hoping this project starts sooner than later.
I'm not so sure the attraction has as low of numbers as people make it out to be... Every time I go, the room is filled. It may not have had multi hour wait times, but each show in and of itself had enough to justify a full or almost full capacity show each time it ran.

The same could definitely not be said for Sinbad, of course... But Poseidon seemed pretty consistent. It just didn't need an extended queue or full park operation hours.

Each show can hold roughly 200 guests (most showings maybe had half of that) and they would typically aim for ~4 showings an hour. That's only 800 guests an hour at most. That's about the same as one of the theaters at WDW, in terms of popularity, like CoP, Tiki, yet more expensive to maintain/run.

All of the showings I saw were full... And I frequented the attraction pretty often. Although, I'm sure the numbers were smaller at the beginning and ending of operation each day.

I also think your numbers are off... I somehow cannot believe that Tiki Room, on average, gets 100 guests per hour. Each time I see that show there's only a handful of folks in there.

I also believe that the attraction was never quite advertised properly, which could have easily been fixed. When you pull up Universal's maps, shows are not included unless you go and toggle live shows... And I imagine that the average park guest isn't thinking to do that, so they may never even realize that the horror make-up show, or poseidon's fury was ever even a thing. Plus, perhaps the attraction would have operated more efficiently with dedicated show times rather than continuous shows throughout the day.

There are many factors in play here... But... I do stand by my initial post and I think your numbers are off in comparison of "popularity" and whatnot. The only time that first room wasn't full in my viewings was when it re-opened with social distancing.

I wouldn't call it an improvement... But at least they were fast!

I'm not sure how this will upload but I took this photo on the attraction's last day and thought it would be fun to share. I really, really love the sense of scale this attraction's façade had. On their own, the bits that made up the Poseidon statue aren't super huge but when you imagine them combined, the size of the supposed statue is awe-inspiring.

the land is one of the most pleasing aesthetics of any land in any park imo. I hope it stays very similar for Zelda or whatever comes next.
