I'd say between this and Sinbad they are clearing space for a project
There is way too much land between the two attractions for them not to utilize the space at some point, but I wonder if there is no sense of urgency. Walls went up immediately for KidZone and Shrek, and demolition followed very shortly afterwards.

Whatever is coming, we probably won't see it until 2026 at the earliest.

As much as I'm sure we'd all like to see this area repurposed as quickly as possible, unfortunately it wouldn't be in Universal's best interests to do so. They can't near the opening of Epic Universe and be like, "Hey everyone, here's this new thing that's not opening until after our new park does. You'll still come visit that when it first opens instead of delaying your plans, right?"

"... Right?"

You could theoretically open it WITH Epic Universe to ensure guests add a day at the resort rather than just switching a park day. 5 years between additions to IoA is a bit much.

That would be optimal, but I think they're already cutting it too close at this point. Even if they were to start demolition tomorrow, it would be a tense race to match EU's progress. And with several other active construction projects around the resort, they may have trouble even finding the manpower.

They are more than capable of building a new ride for 2025 if they actually started now... they typically aim for a 2 year construction timeline.

It's not happening, but it's not impossible.

Especially if Poseidon’s replacement is a rethemed walkthrough.

I do hope its closure is because work is imminent and not for budgetary reasons. A lengthy indoor experience will be missed with summer weather.

In any event, they’ll need Hagrid to finally add Express Pass before they can work on the overall area without needing Sindbad as queue space.

Don't you know? Getting rid of or mothballing your assets for a tax write-off is all the rage now! Everyone's doing it!! Don't let bazillion dollar corporations get all the benefits! Cordon off part of your property and get a tax-write off!! Drive your car into a lake and get a tax write-off!! Put your spouse in cryostasis and get at tax write-off!!!

Adding express to Hagrid would make the queue situation much worse. They only need the extended queue in the morning during the rope drop rush.

How would it make the queue worse? A higher percentage of riders would be using Express and not be in stand-by, shortening the physical standby queue (while perhaps lengthening the wait time).

That logic is sound but Universal doesn't want to split their advertising budget when they should be firing on all cylinders to push their really expensive new theme park.

Absolutely. I presume we will get KidZone next year and have that be it until Epic Universe. I imagine work will start in Lost Continent at some point before EU opens so they have something for 2026.

It would presumably be a whole new land, with everything that entails, not just a new ride. It took them two and 1/2 years to open Diagon Alley, and that was without a potential labor shortage.

Latest rumor is they will expand Hogsmeade here. I guess that’s an obvious option. Geographically, it should be Forbidden Forest or even another village, if true. It would be a sizable expansion—almost double the size of the land.

I had not even considered that a possibility. Guess the spell limit border shall be increased!

Apparently Nintendo executives were spotted touring the land recently and were being given possible options regarding how Zelda would be used. That info is from an insider on the universal forum. It sounds like Hyrule is still active, although we know very little.

If I had to bet, I’d say that a hogsmeade expansion is being quietly drawn together as a plan B in case Nintendo backs out.
