Port Orleans Riverside?

OK, I'm now booked into POR Oct. 22-28. This will be my first time there, so can anyone share info on what this resort is like? I really never intended to stay here since I already LIVE in Louisiana and what's the fun in staying at a resort modeled after where you live?

However, this trip is a group affair and my friend gets an extremely serious discount. So - my eagerness to get a killer discount wins out. :D

I'll probably snoop around on my trip this month, but any info you guys could share - things not to miss, things to skip, any tips - would be appreciated. Thanks!

Before we became DVC members last year this was our favorite resort to stay...Beautiful grounds, great food court (something for everyone).. Boatwrights restaurant not to be missed for their banana stuffed french toast!!! Piano man bob in the lounge is great fun for the whole family (he's there on select nights) there is a great general store at the resort as well, sells the typical disneyana stuff and then some(wine , beer chips things you might have forgotten at home , asprin and such, yes a little pricey but, you are at disney).. Nice horse and carriage rides, fishing hole for the kids and a nice arcade as well...pools are great especailly the main one , has a great outdoor lounge area(Muddy Rivers)...We've stayed at both sections of the resort, mansion side as well as aligator bayou, both are very nice we just prefer bayou section especially buildings 14, 16 and 18...close to pool , dining hall and bus depot.....ohhh, also nice boat ride from resort to Downtown Disney as well....Sorry to go on and on but I really do love this resort(I love our DVC one But I miss Port Orleans Riverside, I think because after 11 years of staying there we knew it like the back of our hands) Overall I know you'll love it there!!!
Have a great time, and feel free to ask away any questions!!!!

We LOVE POR! It is really the nicest of the moderates. Take the boat to DTD as Dixiegirl said. Walk around and just enjoy the landscaping. It is VERY nice. The food court is really nice. Good food and pretty good variety.

VERY IMPORTANT: Ask for the CLOSEST BUILDING to the food court! If you don't, you could be in for quite a hike to the main building.

POR is great, Its the only moderate resort with a water taxi that takes you to a destination...DTD. I always say its a moderate resort with a deluxe feel.

We live in the south also, but we really enjoyed POR.
We stayed there last summer & it was great!
I think you will enjoy it.
There are 2 sections - Alligator Bayou & Magnolia Terrace (I think that's what it's called).
We stayed in the Alligator Bayou section.
It was very scenic & quiet & it was pretty close to everything (the food court, buses, pools, etc.).
Be sure to visit POFQ next door - it has a good food court & a pool w/ a dragon slide!
Also, be sure to take the boat ride from POR to DTD.
Hope this helps!

It is a very beautiful resort. Make sure to do a boat rental or ride a surrey bike around the resort. It only took about 10-15 minutes to get to any of the parks which was great. Make sure you leave for the parks from the bus stop closest to the lobby, since that was the last stop around the resort (There are 3 other stops the busses make). I have no complaints about POR, it was a great stay.

Well, POFQ has the water taxi too, for what it's worth.

But I do agree on your assessment on PO-R feeling like a deluxe. In fact, I took my then-GF-now-wife to WDW 3 times in 12 months. First time we stayed in AKL (summer of 04) 2nd time in PO-R (Easter week 05) and SSR (summer of 05). Since we could only afford a moderate during Easter week, I at least was able to snag a king-sized bed. With only one bed in the room, it felt bigger than the room we had at AKL (with 2 queen beds). We loved walking the grounds, and the aforementioned water taxi to DTD. The only thing that's a pain to deal with, as at almost all Disney resorts, is the food court. So many people, and not enough space to feed them all in a timeley manner. I don't know if the recent refurb speeds things up or not, but that's the only drawback to PO-R in my opinion.

I was actually referring to Port Orleans as a whole I just didnt work it exactly right. Anyhow...POR is my favorite of the two.

Last time we stayed at POR, it was dixie landings  However, we just stayed there again over Memorial Day weekend and it was very nice! Loved the food court, the pools, the scenery. We stayed in Acadian house and thought the walk would be long to the food court, but it wasn't at all. Our only complaint was the busses. To catch a bus to the parks, it was ok. But to catch a bus back....not so great  But it's manageable. Have a great time

Last time I was there it was called Dixie Landing too :P However we stayed over at Port Orleans French Co. I just booked for the Riverside for Sept. from what I have heard I dont think I will be disapointed. I think I may have to call them back though and make sure Im getting in the Mansion themed one part isntead of the bayou. Just personal preference. :hammer:

On our first trip this hotel was suggested by my sister who is CM and the whole time Im thinking why are we going all the way to Disney to stay somewheres that reminds us of home. Well the whole family loved it. Its so relaxing and the grounds are beautiful. And though we want to try and stay at other Disney resorts this will always be our favorite. I hope you enjoy...
