ok heres what I heard.....

My mom was talking to a WDW worker on the phone a couple months ago....

we were staying at the polyneasian (sp?) our friends were over at grovner(sp?).....

She asked upfront if our friends could come over and use our pools....and if that would be against the rules....

the WDW CM said that was fine and that neone who was staying on WDW property had access to all of WDW pools......

So for all of u that witnessed the "ID checking"..... a couple questions:

1) are we positive they were WDW ON PROPERTY guests...
2) could they have been using old passes....in case some one did check them.....therefore proving there not WDW guests...
3) if I'm staying at the Contemp.....can I pool hop to the Y&BC....I'm paying just abou the same money....

... i thought that there were certain resorts that do allow pool hopping among themselves... like all that All Star Resorts... and it used to be that before they became one Port Orleans and Dixie Landings...

I think the ID checking is very much dependent on the CMs who are working at the pool, and the crowds on a particular day. The pools that seem to be strictest about it are Stormalong Bay and BW...perhaps because they are so visible to the public, and SB is so neat. If there aren't crowds, I don't see the harm in pool hopping. HOWEVER...if it's packed, I would be ticked to find out that I can't get a chair or space in the pool at the resort where I'm staying because it's full of pool hoppers! If I were in a "bad" mood, I would probably complain to a CM, who would then probably start checking IDs to make sure everyone "belonged."

As I said, I have nothing against pool hopping per se, unless it interferes with MY utilizing the amenities that I've been promised with my room rate. (the pool sizes/capacity are planned for the number of guests staying at each particular resort, not for everyone staying at all of the others) If the pool is closed for repairs, etc that's one thing...if I can't get in because someone else is taking my spot...watch out!

My brother-in-law, while not staying on any Disney property went swimming in different pools at the resorts.

There were 5 in his family and each day they went to different resorts. I didn't care for this:mad: , because he didn't sat at one of the reorts.

but, since you are staying at one, :zipit: just keep it under your hat.

I think there are different "degrees" of pool hopping. I think it's wrong for people who are not staying on property AT ALL to come in and use a resort pool. That would be like someone sneaking into a movie theater without paying for a ticket!

Intra resort hopping is a little different. That would be equivalent to someone buying a ticket at a multiplex for a less popular movie, then sneaking into another theater to see the new blockbuster that just opened. It wouldn't be a problem...unless ALL of the tickets for the available seats have been sold! That means that someone who purchased a ticket for that particular show has no where to sit! Again, I would be upset if this happened.

I agree.....pool hopping can only be carried out to a degree.....
u have to use ur own judgement...

it the pool/resort is mobbed with people...it's not fair to take someones place....and therefore it shouldn't happen.....and won't happen...at least it won't happen on my part......

Pool hopping at "sister resorts" is allowed. That means guests at POR can swim at POFQ and vice versa. The All-Stars also allow pool hopping. (If you stay at Movies, you can swim at Sports)

But it really IS a question of fairness. Your logic is "I am a resort guest , so I can use any part of any resort."

By that reasoning, I should be able to pay for a room at CBR but stay in a room at the Polynesian because "it's all Disney property."

Yes, it might seem elitist to say that the "poor" people at All-Stars don't get as nice a pool as the "rich" ones at Y&BC. The rooms at the All-Stars are smaller, there is no full-service restaurant, no turn-down service, no concierge, no valet parking, etc. It is a great resort, but it has fewer bells and whistles. In exchange, the room rate is lower.

Although it isn't always true, in this case, you get what you pay for.

Those of you who do it and get away with it know deep down that it is wrong. You have to live with yourselves. And unfortunately, we do too.

I agree totally with that. You really do get what you pay for.
Just like if someone ordered a burger from one of the food centers at the resorts and expected to get a $35 Porterhouse from the California Grill. Same difference. I agree with the same level pool hopping, sure that is fine, but when someone stays off property or at a lower level resort goes to a higher level resort then it will alittle unfair.

ok......so saying I don't have a character breakfast at CB...but they do at the Contemp.....does that mean I can't go eat there ...... becasue...well I paid for what I got...and theres no character breakfast at CB...and that would be mean to take away some one staying at the Contemp. character breakfast??...given these aren't the same situations...but they go along the same lines.....how many people can honestly admit they choose there resort by there pool??? I judge a resort by location...room size....and well yea there amenities but I'm not going to spend an extra grand just because a resort has one more slide than another....

given u get what ur pay for....but its not like I wanna live the life of someone stayting at the Y&BC....

I fully understand what your saying, but some of us actually want to stay in a nice hotel and get pampered.

The resturant statment is TOTALLY different. If you want to eat at Chef Mickey's fine, you are getting what you paid for, a buffet with a character breakfast.

Pool hopping is not allowed.

Resort CMs have begun checking resort ID and will escort non-guests from the pools.

At Y&BC, the most popular pool, they issue wrist bands to guests to discourage exactly what you are proposing.

It is a matter of fairness and pool capacity. You are at the CB, a moderate hotel, for which you are paying somewhere around $150/night. Rooms at the YC start at $320 (regular season, rack rate).

Put yourself in the place of the person paying $320 for a room. You expect a bigger room, fancier restaurants, and a nicer pool. You do NOT want "your" pool crowded with people who are unwilling to pay premuim prices for a room.

You know what? After thinking this over, I feel a need to clarify my point of view towards pool hopping. I have ONLY been to WDW during the "off season", when neither the resort nor pools are at full capacity. It is during that time that I based my opinion that pool hopping is o.k. I definately now agree that pool hopping during "peak" season should not be done nor allowed. I would feel exactly as you do in regards to "my pool" being invaded by non-resort guests. Good post, and thanks for the "peak" point of view!

The pools are CB are not shabby--they are lots of fun.

Yes, you might get away with it. But you also might be asked to leave. If you are travelling with children, consider the message you are giving them and the embarrassment of the whole scene.

Thing is, the Y&BC poll is unlikely to be less crowded than the CBR pool because it is the pool for both the Y&BC resorts and the new Beach Club Villas. It serves quite a few rooms.

Sorry this isn't the answer you want to hear....

No,because you have a reservation to eat in the restaurant, not swim in the pool.

As far as character meals go, even if I'm staying at the Contemporary (or any other resort with a character meal) I have to pay extra to get in! It doesn't come with the room! The only advantage I might have is proximity...I don't have to travel as far.

The ID number on the bottom of your card...each resort has it's own number 99-- (the last two digits signify your resort)
