Actually they have gone to great lengths to stop pool hopping at Stormalong Bay at the Beach club. Disney has gone as far as putting a fence around the pool and requiring resort ID to get in.

Yes - they check the resort id and give you a wrist band here. My DH and I stayed there last November and this was what you had to do. My DH and I would have been furious if we paid for that resort and couldn't use the pool b/c too many people from other resorts were there. If you want to stay at a resort with a great pool like Stormalong - then make a ressie for that resort.

On the subject of pool hopping, there's something I've always wondered about and figured I could get an answer here;

I know it's against the rules to go to another resort and use their pool. However, is there any exception made to being a "guest" of someone staying at that resort? For example, let's say my family is staying in one resort and some friends of ours are staying in another resort (or even off property for that matter), and we want to get together at my resort (or his if they're staying on property) and spend a few hours in the pool together. Is there an exception to the pool hopping rule that allows me to have a "guest" at the pool?

Honestly, I'd say that's what Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon are for. I was originally going to suggest calling resort to resort and asking about that situation, but I'm sure they'd encourage you to utilize one of their water parks if you're interested in swimming together.

Ya, but why pay 55 bucks, or however much it may be, to use the water park when you can enjoy the resort pool for free? And maybe the pool was just part of a larger day spent lounging around the resort and enjoying the other ammeneties. Honestly, I doubt this situation will ever arise with us, but I've always been curious just in case it does...such as if my brother and his wife would ever decide to part with the money to go down there with us, or if our trip overlaps with our friends from this site and we wanted to have some pool time together.

Hey..yeah..the towel animals! I keep forgetting to mention this! Back in like 2006 I think it was we tipped our Mousekeeper(s) at Pop really generously throughout our stay and more than once bumped into them going in/out and had them thank us profusely. We had several great towel creations. On our last day we were just getting the last of our things out of the room when Mousekeeping came along. We cleared out our stuff & left the towel creations & $50 with a thank you note in plain sight. ((We generally don't tip that much but those ladies were so sweet and we could tell how much it meant to them so it was money well spent to us.)) We didn't get too far away from the room when the Mousekeeper caught up to us with the various towel creations in hand insisting we take them because she made them for us and we should take them home. She hugged us, too. It was sorta odd but really sweet, too. I remember wondering what I'd do with them at home. I don't think that constitutes stealing, tho, since the lady chased us down and insisted we take them for the kiddos. :D

Aww, what a great story! Adding in the emotional factor really adds to the memories. :D

I can't believe there are eight pages on pool hopping...not really such a big deal in the grand scheme of things. People starving to death, war, poverty, lack of access to a decent education...those are things to get furious about. Pool hopping is just such a trivial topic for the flaming response.

I don't pool hop, but if the people who are pool hopping are quiet and non splashing, it doesn't bother me at all. To tell you the truth, I'd take quiet pool hopping adults over shrieking two year olds whose parents paid for the hotel room any day.

And honestly, I think because we are all big disney fans (otherwise, why would we be here?), our Disney sense of right and wrong when it comes to WDW is a bit hyped up. For example, I think most people who get a letter with an uncanceled stamp would probably reuse it. Technically it is stealing from the government, but if they missed it, I'm not going to let it go to waste. I occaisionally drive five miles over the speed limit. I don't think that means I am white trash, or that I deserve a public stoning. Unless you never, ever do anything in the least morally questionable (including the kind little white lies "no, that doesn't make you look fat"), who are we to judge others, especially on such a trivial matter? Just a different view on the controversial topic.

You are right. Yes, there are bigger things going on in the world. This is a Disney forum though. Political talk, etc is not allowed.

It all comes down to the rules while at WDW. Whether it be smoking in designated areas, line cutting, pool hopping, renting a wheelchair or ECV just to get on the rides faster, etc. when you blur the line between right and wrong, you run the risk of ruining someone else's vacation.

There were probably a few over the top comments made but that is to be expected when it comes to topics like this. I have seen twenty page threads on bun price increases.:lol: In the grand scheme of things it is not a big deal. If the person in question had simply said that she pool hops and she knows that it is wrong then it would not have been a big deal. However, to try and justify it and then to further state that she was trying to annoy us was probably when the barage started.

As far as judging others, everyone is guilty of that from time to time.:)

I would guess the person in question is me ? I have never pool hopped . I have 4 kids it would be hard I think to sneak in and out. I was asking because of a conversation I had with my friend. She is a DVC member and told me to do it when we go in August. I thought this cannot be right people must not like the pool hooping. The I thought well i will ask.

Hmm I do not remember justifying it at all. But I will go back and look at my posts?? I dont think i was annoying anyone by asking a question??? Really so could u give me a list of non annoying questions I can ask?? I am just confused about the statement u made???

I completely agree with you. I made some of the same points a while back in another thread on the same topic. Whether we stop to think of it or not, most of us commit minor acts of "theft" on a regular basis but it is so trivial no one thinks of it as stealing. How many of us "steal" a staple from the workplace by using the office stapler for personal use? How many of us think nothing of grabbing a single paper clip off the desk to use for personal matters? Surely none of us would ever dream of blatantly stealing an entire box of staples or paper clips to stock our desk at home, but when it's a single paper clip or staple, no one thinks a thing of it. How many of us think nothing of using the office printer to print out a page for ourselves, thereby "stealing" a single piece of paper? And what about the use of the internet on office time, of which most of us are guilty...at least those who work in a setting where internet is available? What about other forms of "time theft", besides the internet? Personal calls at work, stopping to chit chat with someone in the hallway, taking a few extra minutes on break, etc.

In the most technical sense, these are all forms of theft which I'm sure most people on this site are guilty of, yet no one thinks a thing of it. Yet, for some reason, when it comes to minor things like these, when it comes to WDW, people cry bloody murder if you violate the rules. And I think I know why.

Many people on this board have gone way beyond a simple enthusiasm for WDW. They have, whether they conciously admit it or not, pretty much raised it to the level of a religion and have made WDW into the God they worship. And, with religion, there comes the doctrines, the dogmas and the "do's and dont's", and those who don't fall into line are heretics and apostates. And heretics and apostates cannot be tolerated in a religion. In the context of this site, WDW is the God, these fansites are the churches, and pool hopping, mug re-use, etc, are the blashpemous sins that cannot be tolerated. And you'll notice that when someone utters opinions that go against the accepted opinion here, those people are subject to ostracism for their "heresy" and heresy, of course, cannot be tolerated either. This is why people get so heated over these things...because the rule breakers aren't simply violating a piddly rule at a vacation resort. But because they are violating the 10 Commandments of the Disney Religion and are offending the almighty God of the Disney Worshipers.
