Rumor Pixar's Coco coming to the Mexico Pavilion

Coco more than deserves to replace the Gran Fiesta Tour, although it will be a shame to see it close so shortly after being plussed. The AAs should have been added to the ride way earlier than they were. My biggest concern with this overlay is that it will just be a simple screen swap which would be a massive waste of potential. I swear if the storyline is "Where's Dante?"...

Just get those caballeros to Brazil and we can have the best of both worlds.. I know my family will be sad to see Jose Carioca go and the classic caballeros song!

Rode the ride today (first time since the AAs were added), and I was surprised at how large they were?? Judging by the pictures I always thought they were much smaller

Anyways, also heard the mariachi band playing songs from Coco, which was nice to listen to. If they could change the ride to Coco, but move the AAs to Brazil, that would be perfect.

As a fan of Gran Fiesta Tour (seriously, my husband and I ride it with the same enthusiasm others reserve for E-Tickets!) I was incredibly sad to read the rumor of it being replaced. This was before I had seen Coco. I've now seen the movie TWICE (because once wasn't enough!) and, my gosh, this movie is a PERFECT fit for Gran Fiesta Tour. The music, the story, EVERYTHING would fit so well in this space. I truly hope this happens!

Oh I love this idea! My husband also thought it would be cute if they left the Donald piñata in the Coco ride or incorporated some other Three Caballeros throwbacks.

They were originally built to appear in a large theater, and so had to be seen well from the back row. I could see how if they were built for Gran Fiesta, they would have been half their size.

You think it’s likely, based on the success the movie has had, that some changes are made to the original proposal?

Yup. Same question!

I’m on a lot of Facebook groups and there is mostly anger when people bring up the subject of changing the current ride for a Coco themed one. Even those who have seen the movie are against it.

Hopefully (if the project gets approved) people will love the end result.

Disney's ordered the Frozen short that plays before Coco to stop being shown after Dec. 7th.

It was a stupid idea. Typical Disney misunderstanding their audience.
I've never understood their placement of the Frozen shorts. The last one played before the live action Cinderella remake and parents complained that the movie wasn't aimed at small kids and so their kiddos they'ed brought for the frozen short were bored out of their minds. I took my sister (then 6?ish) and she spent the whole time sliding down her seat and trying to talk to people because the film had no songs to keep her occupied.

I just saw Coco again tonight here in the Netherlands as I'd only caught it in Spanish in Mexico and wanted to see the English version, and the Frozen short really did not go over well here either. There was certainly a very audible groan/laugh across the entire (huge) theatre when they started to sing that last song! It wouldn't surprise me if they short doesn't last too long over in Europe either.

It's just so long and pointless!

After two weeks, Coco has grossed 280M WW. @marni1971 would you consider that good enough for the attraction getting greenlit?
It's also doing particularly well in China, which makes me wonder whether they'll be considering something for Shanghai Disneyland as well:

One market where the film saw an increase was China where it posted a $17.8 million opening, which increased 148% this weekend to an estimated $44.2 million. The film's estimated, $75.6 million cume in China makes it the highest grossing Pixar release ever in China and third highest Pixar/Disney release after only Zootopia and Big Hero 6.

Well Frozen made $1.3 billion worldwide and got that garbage ride laid over Maelstrom. I'm thinking this doesn't get a ride
That isn't entirely true, Frozen is getting a land Hong Kong Disneyland, possibly the Frozen land for DisneySea is back in the table for the upcoming expansions, and there are rumors of Frozen coming to Disneyland... As for Coco, I find it hard to believe that in the Gran Fiesta Tour overlay/overhaul isn't happening based on the success the movie has...

Right. I was just talking about WDW and Frozen

I can't see them spending the money on a overlay for Coco based on the box office.
