If you dont mind me asking, what are the major differences between DLR's POTC and WDW's POTC? I've never been to DLR so I wouldnt know.

The Disneyland version of the ride takes just over 15 minutes, while the WDW version is just under 8 minutes. That's a solid 7 minutes that is missing from the WDW version.

I find the lack of drops in the WDW to be one of the biggest problems. The "drop" in WDW is really just a short slide. The drops at Disneyland are serious drops, especially the first and biggest one in the dark. I get the whole water table thing in Florida makes doing drops into underground caverns impossible, but it still is a real shame.

That map of the ride linked to in these fun pics really makes you realize how abbreviated and shortened the Florida version is compared to the Disneyland original. It almost makes you wonder why they even bothered.

But I suppose if you've only ever been to WDW, how would you know how bad it is in comparison?

I hope no one gets in trouble or loses their job for this.

I hope so as well. Again, I have been given permission to distribute these pictures and video freely, so don't worry. Just enjoy them.

Come on now. Isn't that just a little drastic? Despite the differences the WDW version has been good enough to work its little way into the hearts of many thousands of people.

The dates on the rehab schedule shown in the photographs state a range of 2/27/05 - 6/27/05. Is this an old schedule? Was POTC down for rehab in the spring of 2005?

You may have been given permission, but I doubt the person that sent them to you had authorization to send them OR the capability to grant permission for you to publish them.

In any event, the pictures were fun to look at.

I am against the Wicked Wench becoming the Black Pearl for now... but I'm sure when I see the Black Pearl live and in person I will be wowed!

See, i don't see what the big deal is here, "Wicked Wench" is just a name. Why would there need to be anything more than putting black sails on the ship, and changing the nameplate on the back. There, instant "Black Pearl". I hardly see what difference it makes.

...until they ride the DL version. The only reason the WDW version is so much shorter is because guests were complaining that WDW didn't have "that pirates ride." The higher ups decided to rush a POTC into WDW, instead of waiting for Western River Expansion, whihc was supposed to be WDW's POTC-type ride.

"Good enough", yes. But on my first trip to WDW I remember sitting in the boat at the unload area going "Wait, was that it? We have to get out of the boat now?"

My mom laughed hysterically at our predicament once we made it into the exit gift shop, and she made the comment "It looks like Readers Digest got a hold of that ride and shortened it up quite a bit!"

The WDW version is certainly "good enough" for an unknowing tourist to feel they've been on a singing pirate ride, but compared to the Disneyland version it really stinks. I found it interesting on my visit to Tokyo Disneyland last year that the Tokyo version is almost a complete lift of the Disneyland version, right down to an identical Blue Bayou restaurant inside the ride. The Japanese knew which version they wanted back in '83 when there were only two versions to choose from.

I agree. POTC in Florida has always been a joke.

Would you prefer a clone of the DL version?

I'd take that. Although I would prefer a clone of the Paris version with sword fighting pirates or an all movie version of the ride like the one thats RUMORED for Hong Kong. I think Magic Kingdom needs to get some unique flavor. Right now its just Disneyland Lite stuck in the 1970's with more walking space.
