Here I thought we were against clones...Aren't they the cause of Disney's downfall in the last decade?

:lookaroun

I've experienced both the DL and WDW version...and love both.

Would you prefer a clone of the DL version?

Yes... I agree with Ghostbuster, too. The DL version is just that much better than WDW... you just kinda have to see it to believe it I guess... I didn't really believe others until I actually rode the DL version and I was like "wow... they're right"

edit: ah nevermind... I guess I need to read the other pages of this thread lol

What I'm curious about is how they are going to cram all of the same effects they are installing in Disneyland into the WDW version. A few months ago Al Lutz on Miceage listed all the stuff they are adding to the Disneyland version. The caverns section that takes 3 or 4 minutes to float through at Disneyland, but only about 90 seconds to float through at WDW, will really benefit from the new Davey Jones mist screen and moonlight skeleton guy, etc.

I just wonder how they are going to stage all of that in the shorter WDW caverns without it seeming even more smooshed together than it already does. In the caverns section, WDW lacks the Crews Quarters Scene, Captains Quarters Scene and Treasure Scene. And the "transition tunnel" where the new Disneyland effects will go is practically nonexistent in WDW.

So how do they add stuff to an already abreviated ride without making it feel like sensory overload and jumbled plotlines?

It should be interesting.

I think Magic Kingdom needs to get some unique flavor. Right now its just Disneyland Lite stuck in the 1970's with more walking space.

That comment right there shows the value of your opinion (or complete lack thereof). Wow.

I don't think that clones are necessarily a bad thing-some people can't get out to the other parks, so importing a popular ride (like Soarin') isn't that bad of an idea. The problem usually stems from poor imitations of the original--like, say, ToT at DCA; attractions that appear to have a shorter than average "shelf life", like Millionaire; or attractions that are brought over due to lack of imagination, like Muppets or Bug's Life at, again, DCA.

I remember my now 4 year old daughter being very disappointed with the WDW Pirates. Having introduced my daughter from when she was a baby on the DL Pirates, she has probably rode it at least 30 times and it is still one of her favorite rides. The drops were her first introduction to thrill rides, and still continue to thrill her.

I've read that they are increasing the length of the WDW Pirates by removing the drop off area where everyone gets off the ride and just start having people get off where you get on, thus adding another show room to the ride.

By the way, I prefer DCA's TOT to WDW's and think clones of top rides aren't a bad thing. If Monsters comes to DStudios WDW fans should be happy, its a very good dark ride.

I'd take that. Although I would prefer a clone of the Paris version with sword fighting pirates or an all movie version of the ride like the one thats RUMORED for Hong Kong. I think Magic Kingdom needs to get some unique flavor. Right now its just Disneyland Lite stuck in the 1970's with more walking space.

I find this post interesting: You say that you would like a DL or DLP clone for Pirates, yet you say the Magic Kingdom needs unique flavor. Also, I think that calling the Magic Kingdom a 1970's Disneyland Lite is not only unfair, but untrue. The Magic Kingdom is the most popular theme park in what is called the Vacation Kingdom of the World. Can you give some type of examples to back this up? (just for my own curiosity)

I think that opinion may stem from the overall lack of rides at WDW's Magic Kingdom. At least that's how my family thought of the place. The Magic Kingdom lacks a bunch of attractions, several of them major E Tickets, and some modern design touches. (Example; I was amazed that the Magic Kingdom is still covered in slurry pavement instead of bricks or dyed/stamped concrete)

Rides at Disneyland that don't exist in the Magic Kingdom;
Matterhorn Bobsleds - E Ticket
Indiana Jones Adventure - E Ticket
Star Tours - E Ticket
Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage - E Ticket (opening next spring)

Plus several C and D Tickets like;
StorybookLand Canal Boats - D Ticket
Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin - D Ticket
Davy Crockett Canoes - D Ticket
Sailing Ship Columbia - D Ticket
Honey I Shrunk The Audience - D Ticket
Casey Jr. Circus Train - C Ticket
Alice In Wonderland - C Ticket
Pinnochio's Daring Journey - C Ticket
Mr. Toad's Wild Ride - C Ticket

And a few hard to categorize but still part-of-the-experience things like Innoventions, Disneyland 50th Exhibit/Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, Disneyland Monorail (with station in Tomorrowland), Fantasmic! on the Rivers of America, Big Thunder Ranch petting zoo, Main Street Cinema, etc.

At WDW, the extra bonus stuff missing from Disneyland is often older, less popular rides;
Carousel of Progress (Which I LOVE by the way) - E Ticket
PeopleMover - D Ticket
Stitch's Great Escape - D Ticket?
Hall of Presidents - D Ticket
Country Bear Jamboree - E Ticket

However, the Magic Kingdom's Castle is stunning and the super-highway walkways can be nice on busy days. But there's still a bunch of Disneyland rides missing from the Magic Kingdom, or you have to go to Epcot or MGM to find them. For someone who is used to a big day at Disneyland, the Magic Kingdom leaves you wondering where the rest of the rides are. Hence the "Lite" moniker.

Which was my point. If all the Pirate rides would be the same...that would be boring...

Personally I like the queue at WDW more than at DL...I think it's almost like you're on the ride before you actually sit on the boats....the DL version has some great scenes missing from the one at WDW...

Some like to complain about clones, and then turn around and ask for them (which is what my other post was getting at) . It really is confusing.

I do not think it is fair to call WDW's MK Disneyland Lite.. DL has 2 parks, WDW 4... And some of the rides you mention MK is missing, they are located in the other parks: Star Tours is in MGM Studios, Everest is basically Matterhorn on steriods, DL has Indy WDW has Dinosaur (same ride, different theme, plus WDW has Indy stunt show in the studios), The Nemo subs was 20K which was removed from WDW (so they had the same ride at one point and something better will wind up in that spot, just don't know when), WDW had thr Mike Keel Boats in place of thr canoes, WDW has a Liberty River Boat, Honey I Shrunk the Audience is in Epcot.. Mr Toads was replaced with Pooh (so that was another ride that both had)... WDW has a lot more to do (vacation destination).

But it's all due to which way the wind is blowing today. I think some just want to complain. Today it's that PotC IS NOT exactly the same and that's bad... tomorrow it will be because we're getting a clone and it IS exactly the same. Very confusing.

Maybe we should try to focus on just how good Pirates is today. Both the DL version and the WDW version are good dark rides. Better than you would find in most parks. I'm looking forward to seeing the updates they do in the current rehab and I'm sure I'll be very happy to ride it after they are done.

Great post. Couldn't have said it better myself.

While I agree that if all the POTCs were the same it would be bad, I don't like that fact that ours is a dumbed down version. I could see if ours had something great that the others don't, but it doesn't.

I do agree that WDW's has a better queue, though.

I'm sorry, but this post requires a parent's point of view.

You want yours to be the best and nobody else can have something that you can't have. Yep, reminds me of a selfish and spoiled child. Sorry, gotta call it like I see it. (well, at least the way your wrote it.)

I STRONGLY disagree with you and im sure others will too.

If WDW is the #1 vactation destination on the planet (which it doesnt deserve IMO...Disneyland deserves that title) it better have the best of the best.

Selfish? Did I say I wanted WDW's POTC to be great and all the rest to be horrible? No. I'm just saying that WDW's can be improved. I had no idea that wanting to improve WDW made me selfish and spoiled.:rolleyes:

WDW is a vacation destination.. DL is a 1 or 2 day visit tops....
I happen to like WDW's PotC... It may be a dumbed down version, but it is still a classic loved by mostly all.... I would love to see something added into the WDW version that make sit unique, but I will not complain the way it is now, and will not complain with the new additions....
