Yes, that's what they're doing, but making it an inferior scene with sure-to-be inferior vocal performances. Every original 1967 voice that's been removed has been replaced with an audio track by a voice actor who's not nearly as good as the original.
Well, I can't say if it's inferior since I haven seen the new scene yet. Please share the footage you took in your time machine.

If I had my way, they could compensate by putting a few of the other 1967 voices back in.

The most pointless voice replacements during the movie updates IMO were the Spanish soldiers at the fort and the hook-handed pirate at the well. All they do differently is name-drop Barbossa, Sparrow, and Davy Jones, only with worse voice actors and dialogue. Hook-hand doesn't even say "or do a fine dance at rope's end" anymore.

Hook-Hand does need his original dialogue back. I prefer the current soldiers however.

His line "or do you fancy a swim with Davy Jones?" doesn't even make sense in regards to the films' mythology. If the mayor were to drown in the well, Davy Jones wouldn't be coming to collect him.

Of course the Jones/Blackbeard projection and mermaids in the cave don't make sense either.

I thought the originals (which I'm pretty sure were all Paul Frees) sounded more natural. New ones to me sound too try-hard, or maybe not trying hard enough.
To me the old ones sounded like Spanish stereotypes. The new ones sound like they are in a fight for their lives If only Barbossas voice was as intimidating and he wasn't saying Captain Jack Sparrow every other word.

In WDW especially virtually everything regarding the movie changes made the attraction worse.

To add insult to injury, it wasn't even all changes based on the movies. Some WDI "genius" decided that the queue would be better without the spooky Spanish guitar music echoing throughout, that the beach scene would be better with brighter lighting and a "magical"-sounding rendition of Yo Ho playing in the background, that the parrot & talking skull had to go, etc.

The music in the queue now is the same music that plays in the queue at Disneyland. Whoever authorized that change either wasn't aware (or didn't care) that the story being told in the WDW Pirates ride is different from the California version. The pan flute version of Yo Ho actually works very well in the Disneyland version but in the Florida version which was supposed to be scarier, having the panflute music completely changed the mood of the scene. This has mercilfully been rectified by the addition of the Mermaid song. I don't care whether the mermaid singing stays or goes at this point the effect is virtually the same either way.

Early 2018 works for me as I'm going in September of that year.

Fingers crossed it will be open for you, rumors range from a simple switch, and reprogramming ... to a whole new set of AAs like the ones that are being installed in Paris .. but Parais will have more AA work. I think that opens late July. Keep an eye on YouTube

So I wonder if this is the reason Splash is being refurbed earlier than normal? I feel like maybe Martin mentioned there was a reason but couldn't say? Maybe I'm not remembering correctly.

Early like Jan/Feb 18?

Point well taken, and agreed with, admittedly, I was thinking of only WDW in my statement

Totally agree, the scene as is, is still hilarious! I simply meant that if they change it as shown in the concept art, the dialogue will necessarily also have to change, as "superstructure" and "lardboard side" and "sellin' her by the pound" would no longer make any sense.
That's the saddest part. Country Bears, Haunted Mansion, and Disneyland's Mr. Toad are all next. Little by little Disney is going further and further to proving everyone who says they're "just for kids" right :(

Sorry for the miss spelling in my earlier post I was using the microphone on the iPad that never works ... I believe the Paris version will open late July and give us an idea of what we can expect there for a timeframe on how long it will take for the changes ..... o_O ;) sorry that's all I can say.
